Muniesa will start pre-season with first team

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona Juvenil A central defender and Spanish youth international Marc Muniesa (17) will start the pre-season with the first team.

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would have been closely watching the Catalan defender for some time now and is convinced that Muniesa could soon become a full member of the first team.

Guardiola will call up Muniesa for the training camp in London from 21 to 26 July, during which Barcelona will play friendly games against Tottenham and Al-Ahly (read more
here). Depending on his performances and evolution, there would even be a chance that the defender could stay with the first team for the whole season. Despite receiving numerous offers from European clubs, Muniesa would prefer to triump with Barcelona.

You should see what will happen with the other centre-backs. Milito, Henrique, Marquez, Caceres? If it's just to sit on the bench, better he plays one year with Barça B.

muniesa is young blood ...love our cantera its like a production line of top talent...a pique & muniesa paring in midfeild for the future sounds amazing ...but one guy who i wish would just explode next season would be BOJAN ... he needs to build some muscle put on mass not too much as to ruin his good ball control but to be more physical ...heed make a good marksman like villa ..just silky

We need to hire Jose Canseco for the cantera. We teach the boys how to play but all these youngsters need some weight on them!

It is really bad that he looks like Puyol, that means he will always be compared to him. It could be the same as Dos Santos who looked like Ronaldinho, so he was called "new Ronaldinho".

Admittedly, the "new Ronaldinho" pretty soon took over Ronnie's off field attitude as well. In this respect, Puyol is probably a better example to be compared to.

I just dont like stuff that can go to their head. But it is true, Puyol is a rolemodel in every way, hopefully he will teach Muniesa lessons about hard work, humility and sheer determination. It is good that we have Pique too though, as he has future heir of Puyol and captain material written all over him, so that will put some pressure off Muniesa to be the new Puyol.

He is rated as one of UEFA's top 10 prospects after the last u-17 european championships, i dont think a puyol comparisons are anything new for him. For me he is a cross of puyol and pique, because he is taller than puyol and looks to be better in the air, but he has a certain savageness in his tackling (see his first red card) that reminds me of el capitan. Take no prisoners and no nonsense, but he also has a touch on him. Really exciting prospect for me. Milito may be done when this kid comes through next seaon and caceres is going on loan i would think

If he can play in LB position too then he could get maybe more minutes...I hoped to see him in action in CL final when the win was sure

Botia is very good also and is 3 years older. He should get priority for the time being. Muniesa is not ready yet, he is too young for a central defender, his red card proved it. He should stay in barca B for at least another year.

Erm, he didn't even appeared for Barca B team, right? If this news become true, it means that he will jump directly from the juvenile team to the A team. That is more meteoric than how Messi and Bojan rised, am I right? :D
