Concert of the day: U2

Irish rock band U2 started yesterday at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona their new '360°' world tour. U2 frontman Bono put on a Barcelona shirt (with the number one and his name on, given to him by his new friend Pep "Guardilia") to sing the song 'One'.

Stage new U2 tour revealed at Camp Nou

Yesterday, the stage that will be used for the new world tour of Irish rock band U2 was revealed to the press. U2 will open their new "360°" tour at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona on Tuesday 30 June.

The stage will be located in the centre of the stadium and there has been tried to create a 360º vision, which is unique in an open-top location and has involved extraordinary engineering difficulties. The stage is 78 metres wide and 50 high, weighing 180 tons in total. The stage architect, Mark Fisher said he feels honoured that the lines of his creation have been compared to Catalan architect Gaudí.

Michael Jackson performed at the Camp Nou

On 9 August 1988, American pop singer Michael Jackson performed at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona.
With 90 000 fans, it was the most attended concert of his "Bad" World Tour.
Jackson was at the top of his career at that point. Yesterday, he died in Los Angeles at the age of 50.

Barcelona fans celebrate historic Madrid win

Barcelona's historic 2-6 win over Real Madrid was celebrated all over Catalonia last night. In Barcelona, thousands of people gaterhed at the Canaletes fountain on the Ramblas in the centre of the city of Barcelona after the end of the game.

When Barcelona arrived at 12:30 am at the El Prat airport, the squad was welcomed by 3000 fans. Followed by numerous cars and motorcycles, the team bus drove to the Camp Nou where another group of fans were waiting to greet the players.

Song of the day: Pasame la botella

On Saturday, Barcelona travelled back from Madrid to Barcelona together with Barcelona's basketball team that had just defeated Real Madrid.

After the cabin crew first didn't give him the permission to connect Bojan's iPod to the plain's loud speakers, Gerard Piqué in the end managed to convince the chief flight attendant to put on some msuic.

Besides El Vals del Obrero, Piqué played song like "Pasame la botella" by Panamanian reggae artists Match and Daddy with Abidal, Keita and Henry showing their best moves. When the plain was going to start the landing, Piqué had to stop the session. Too early in his opinion: "There's no justice!"

Song of the day: Boig per tu

In the built-up to last week's home game against Bayern Munich, ten minutes before the start of the match, Barça unveiled a new chant: "Barça, estic boig per tu".

The song uses the melody of the Catalan hit "Boig Per Tu" by nineties pop rock band Sau, while changing the lyrics and putting them into a 'Barça context'. The new version is performed by new Catalan band Red-In and is planned to be played before every Barcelona game at the Camp Nou.

Second U2 concert at Camp Nou

Irish rock band U2 has officially announced today that they have added a second concert to their stadium tour that will kick off in Barcelona in June:

"The Nou Camp show in Barcelona on June 30th sold out in 54 minutes, breaking all records in Spain. A second show has been added, for July 2nd. Our U2.com subscribers can enter a presale for this show from tomorrow, Friday, with tickets on sale to the general public from next Tuesday, March 31st."

New U2 tour kicks off at Camp Nou

Song of the day: El Vals Del Obrero

Monday, a little before 2 am. The team flies back to Barcelona after winning the game against Almería, the plane got off half an hour too late and will land in fifteen minutes, people are sleeping.

Suddenly someone shouts "Viva la revolución!!!" from the back of the plane and the song "El Vals Del Obrero" from Spanish anti-establishment ska punk band Ska-P blasts out of the speakers.

With the help of a stewardess, Gerard Piqué had connected his iPod to the sound system...

How much will Barcelona get for the U2 concert?

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona will receive one million euro for the use of the Camp Nou stadium by Irish rockband U2 later this year for the opening of their new world tour (read more here).

If U2 would later decide to add a second Barcelona concert to their new tour, that would mean another million euro for the club. Barcelona will also receive an extra fee of supposedly around 300 000 euro for the replacement of the pitch after the concert.

New U2 tour kicks off at Camp Nou

Irish rock band U2 has today officially announced that they will open their new "360°" world tour at the Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona on 30 June.

The new stadium tour will visit 14 cities across Europe in July and August, before moving to North America in September and October.

U2 last came to Barcelona during their Vertigo Tour on 7 August 2005, when over 80 000 people attended the concert at the Camp Nou. Part of the tickets for the concert in Barcelona will this time be reserved for Barcelona socios.
