Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Spanish first division club Sporting Gijón is still interested in Barcelona goalkeeper Albert Jorquera (29) (read more here).
Sporting is looking to sign a goalkeeper this month and would plan to make a new attempt to sign the Catalan player.
Barcelona would have rejected a move earlier this month because they wanted a permanent transfer while Sporting preferred a loan deal. Barcelona now doesn't seem willing anymore to let go Jorquera, who himseld would be open for a transfer, because they want to keep the current squad together.
Barcelona goalkpeeing coach Unzué, together with the other members of the technical staff, would have decided that Jorquera should stay until the end of the season, when the issue will again be looked at. Catalan radio station Ona FM claims that the staff doesn't want to take the risk of ending up with only one goalkeeper when Jorquera would leave and one of the two other goalkeepers would get injured.
Asturias regional newspaper La Voz de Asturias claimed last week that Jorquera first offered himself to Sporting, but that Barcelona rejected a move when Sporting had reached an agreement with the player. Now the position of Barcelona could have changed and Jorquera would be free to leave if he wishes so.
