Sergio Garcia transfer will benefit Barcelona

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that if Zaragoza forward and Spanish international Sergio García (24) is sold this summer, Barcelona will receive 20 per cent of the transfer fee. When Barcelona sold the striker to Zaragoza in the summer of 2005 this was included in the deal.

It is expected that Zaragoza, who were relegated to the Segunda División this season, is willing to sell the player. The club is at this moment holding on to the buyout clause of 18 million euro°.

The player's agent, 'Mágico' Díaz, met last Thursday with Tottenaham officials. Tottenham manager Juande Ramos would be intersted in bringing Sergio García to the Premier League. Sergio Garcia is not a priority

Both main Catalan sports papers claim that former Espanyol Barcelona player 'Mágico' Díaz, the agent of Zaragoza forward and Spanish international Sergio García (24), met yesterday in Barcelona with Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain (read more here).

Díaz was informed that Sergio García is considered to be an interesting player, but that he's not a priority and certainly not when Zaragoza holds on to the 18 million euro° buyout clause.

Because José Ramón Alexanko, the head of the Barcelona youth academy, assisted the meeting, it is believed that the main topic during the meeting were the possible transfers of youth players. Díaz represents several players of Barcelona B and other youth categories.

Barcelona could pay Sergio Garcia buyout fee

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that Barcelona could pay next week the buyout fee of Zaragoza forward and Spanish international Sergio García (24) (read more here).

Future Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would have contacted García over the last week to say he's counting on him for next season. The Barcelona youth product, who played last season regularly as right winger, would be delighted by this chance to return and will accept any concrete offer.

Zaragoza nevertheless says they don't need to sell players and point to the buyout clauses of their players. In the case of Sergio García, the buyout fee would be 20 million euro°. Barcelona sold the player three years ago to Zaragoza for 1,5 million euro°.

Catalan sports paper Sport meanwhile claims that Valencia signed a few weeks ago a deal with Zaragoza, giving Valencia the first option on Zaragoza players Sergio García and Alberto Zapater in case Zaragoza was relegated, something that has happened in the meanwhile. Garcia has also been linked to Atlético Madrid.

Sergio Garcia close to a return

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that Zaragoza forward Sergio García (24), who was surprisingly added to the Spain list for the Euro 2008 (read more here), is close to return to Barcelona.

Barcelona has already contacted Mágico Díaz, the agent of the player, and García would be delighted by the idea of returning to Barcelona. From the first contact with Zaragoza it seems that the transfer fee could be around 10 million euro°.

Zaragoza has asked all parties for some discretion in the transfer talks since the club, who was relegated this season and has to sell some players (read more here), wants to give the fans some time to get over the frustration of past season. Transfers are therefore not expected to be announced in the next two weeks.

Future Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola explicitly asked Barcelona president Joan Laporta for the Zaragoza striker and Barcelona youth product as he wants to give the squad more caracter and an own identity.

Could Barcelona pick up a player from Zaragoza?

With Zaragoza relegated to Segunda División and having a debt of over 100 million euro, it's clear the club will have to sell players in the summer.

Like a lot of other clubs Barcelona is following the events in Zaragoza, looking for the possibility to pick up a player for a good price, like they did when current left back defender Sylvinho was transfered from relegated Celta Vigo for only 2 million euro° back in 2004.

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that strikers Diego Milito and Sergio García are for sale. Barcelona has in the past been linked several times with Zaragoza forward Diego Milito (28) (read more here), the older brother of Barcelona central defender Gabriel Milito.

The Argentian has a buyout fee of 100 million euro°, although Zaragoza is believed to have verbally agreed with the player that they will accept an offer between 15 and 20 million euro°. Catalan sports paper Sport nevertheless claims that Barcelona is not planning to make a bid for Diego Milito because they consider that price still be too high.
