Barcelona interest leads to pay rise offer for Cole

British tabloid The Sun claims that Barcelona is interested in Chelsea left back defender and English international Ashley Cole (28) (read more here).

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola likes the player and Barcelona would be preparing a 22,5 million euro° bid but Chelsea are confident Cole will stay at the club. The English defender, whose contract expires in 2011, will be offered a new four-year deal worth as much as the club's top earners Frank Lampard, John Terry and Michael Ballack.

A Chelsea source is quoted by the tabloid as saying that new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to hold on to Cole: "One of the first things Mr Ancelotti said when arriving at the club was not to allow Ashley to leave. He is aware that Barcelona rate him extremely highly and Guardiola sees the left-back position as the team's only weak link. We're extremely hopeful that Ashley will stay at Chelsea."

Yes he is a good player. Not great but good. For the right price I would go for him but he has the nickname 'Cash-ly Cole' for a reason. I would say there is a 5% chance of him coming to Barca.

a lot of players are using Barcelona for a pay rise. I can't believe that Guardiola is preparing bids for any of this players. Insane.

Txiki is going to buy a couple of players for 15 millions and tell us they are the cream of the crop.

This is becoming rather silly. The total amount of the money we will pay for transfers if all the rumours are true is about €250M. And everyone of us knows that the amount in the end will be more like €60M. But then again, reading these rumours is quite enjoyable.
