Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés (27) will sign his contract renewal tomorrow.
Valdés will come to the Camp Nou offices on Tuesday, accompanied by his father José Valdés and his agent Ginés Carvajal, to sign a new deal that will link him to Barcelona until 2014.

Who are the super-agents?
author: Rory Smith

Jorge Mendes (picture)
Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent made his name brokering Jose Mourinho’s move from Porto to Chelsea in 2004 and now stands to make around £5 million from the Ronaldo move alone. Mendes now deals only with the very top clubs in Europe.
Pini Zahavi
The former Israeli journalist went on to become football’s first - and some would say still only - true super-agent. He is close to Roman Abramovich and was the first port of call for Manchester City after they became the world’s richest club last year.
Ernesto Bronzetti
The man who AC Milan and Juventus turn to for advice on all of their transfer dealings. Bronzetti was at the heart of Manchester City’s botched move for Kaka in January - on the Italian side - and remains Serie A’s Mr Fix-It of choice.
Gines Carvajal
The man who represents Raul, Iker Casillas and Guti, as well as a host of other players around Spain, is the most powerful agent in a country with more players’ representatives than any other. Carvajal is closely linked with both Madrid clubs and is a friend of Florentino Perez.
Vincenzo Morabito
Closely linked with both AC Milan and Roma, few deals come to fruition in Italy without Morabito’s involvement. He is most usually mentioned in dispatches in connection with Emmanuel Adebayor, the most high-profile client of his FIMO firm.

Barcelona not willing to accept Valdes demands
Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain, Barcelona sports vice-president Rafael Yuste and Barcelona director of football Raúl Sanllehí met yesterday with the representatives of Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés (27), his father José Valdés and player's agent Ginés Carvajal.
After a first positive meeting last week on the renewal of the player, whose contract expires in 2010, it was generally believed that a deal could be closed but after 45 minutes in the Camp Nou offices things seem to have gotten only more complicated.
Asked about the meeting, Carvajal told journalists that a deal isn't anywhery close at this moment: "We've made an offer but we're still far away. It's complicated. The atmosphere during the meeting was correct but it won't be easy. I respect the interests of the club but Víctor never asked for a pay rise before. Now the time of the renewal is there and we can ask something.
We understand that what they offer is what they consider to be right, but the duration nor the salary is coming close to what Víctor Valdés is asking. He cannot be compared to Casillas but at this moment he's Barcelona's goalkeeper, he has won three trophies this year and he was again the goalkeeper who received the least goals in the Liga.
We're not disappointed, we're only defending the interests of the player. Víctor wishes to continue but life doesn't end at Barça. And he's not out yet, he has another year on his contract. We're not having concrete offers from other clubs but it's time to make a decision. We're 11 June, so there's time left but we want to have an answer soon so this doesn't turn into a soap opera."
Asked about the renewal negotiations with Valdés, Barcelona president Joan Laporta said in an interview with Catalan radio station RAC 1 that Valdés will have to lower his demands: "I cannot imagine Valdés wearing another shirt. I know how the meeting went and I can only hope the player perfectly knows the offer made by his agent. If he knows about it, I would like him to reconsider it. We have to be patient to see if we can reach an agreement although their demands have surprised us a lot."
Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Valdés, whose salary reportedly hasn't been raised since he signed his previous contract in 2005, wants to earn as much as the group of players who are having the highest salaries behind Messi. Although Barcelona raised their first offer, they made clear that it's impossible to meet the demands of the player.
Next week there could be a new meeting but Barcelona hopes that the entourage of the player changes its position in the meantime. It's also possible that Barcelona tries to talk personally with Valdés or that Barcelona president Laporta personally takes charge of the negotiations like he did during the renewal negotiations with Xavi last year.
Madrid sports tabloid As claims that the two parties didn't schedule a new meeting but that talks are planned to go on by phone. Both the club and the player's entourage would think that some time should pass to let things cool off.

Renewal of Valdes until 2014 close
Catalan sports paper Sport claims that the renewal of Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés (27) is close.
Barcelona has offered Valdés, whose current contract expires at the end of next season, a new deal until 2014 and the previous economic differences between the parties would almost be solved (read more here).
Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo nevertheless claims that Barcelona didn't yet talk with Ginés Carvajal, the new agent of the Catalan goalkeeper. Although it's likely that Valdés will continue at the club, a renewal deal wouldn't seem to be an easy thing.
Asked about the renewal of Valdés, Carvajal said in an interview with Spanish television channel TVE that he expects an agreement will be reached: "The renewal of Víctor will be very easy. I don't think there will be any problem since both Victór Valdés and Barcelona want him to continue. Víctor has been the first goalkeeper of Barcelona for seven or eight years now, so I think he has proven his qualities. His performances are at the same level as those of Casillas."

Valdes wants to retire at Barcelona
Asked about his the renewal of his contract that expires in 2010 (read more here), Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés (27) has said at a press conference that he doesn't want to talk about his contract situation:
"I don't want to discuss the issue. There has been so much talk about it these days that I don't wish to say anything else. I don't want to get involved, there has already been talked too much. Would I like to retire at Barcelona? Yes, I would."
Valdés' agent Ginés Carvajal said last week in an interview with Spanish news site El Confidencial that he expects a reneweal deal will be found later this year: "There hasn't yet been any contact with the club because Barça has made clear that they want to deal with the renewals in the summer. Until then, we'll be very calm because we're sure we will reach an agreement.
We're not in a hurry to renew because both Víctor and FC Barcelona want to close a new deal in the summer. Víctor doesn't want to leave the club and Barça doesn't want him to leave. If his contract would have expired in June, that would have been another situation but that's not the case and we're very calm."

Agent Valdes putting pressure on renewal talks
Over the last week, Ginés Carvajal, the new agent of Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés (27), has given several interviews about the renewal of the Catalan goalkeeper whose contract expires in 2010 (read more here).
Catalan radio station RAC 1:
"We're waiting for the club to contact us. Víctor has another one and a half year left on his contract and the club should make a decision, it’s not up to us. Everyone knows how to negotiate. Eight months ago there were negotiations with board memebers and although I wasn't the agent of Valdés at that time, there didn't seem to be problems. But since then the issues hasn't been discussed.
It's not true that we're thinking about asking the same salary as Casillas is getting at Madrid. And that has nothing to do with the fact that there aren't contact for now. Víctor is very calm and we're not affected by what other players are doing. Both Víctor and I are thinking about Barça. Valdés is an extraordinary goalkeeper who's capable of playing at a big club like Barça. And I know that there are four or five other big clubs that are looking for a goalkeeper."
Madrid sports tabloid As:
"There's a lot of time and a lot of things to decide left, but we wish that the club officials invite us to come and sit around the table to discuss a possible contract upgrade. The player is very calm about the issue and focused on the excellent season he and his team-mates are having. The last thing we want is to stir things up. Víctor only thinks about winning the most trophies possible."
Catalan radio station Onda Cero Catalunya:
"As far as we are concerned, we're not pushing at all in this matter. He has one year and some months left on his contract and it's Barça who should decide when they want to act, they are the ones who should show they're interested to negotiate. While we have a contract, we're very calm. He feels valued at Barcelona, by the fans and by the press.
It's just that contracts are sometimes already outdated one or two years after they have been signed. And then you apparently need to wait until the end of the contract to update them. I don't think the problem is that the club doesn't know me. I'm not worried about people saying that. I'm not going to call Txiki to present myself. The press has made clear what is going on. Barça knows me enough, they know where to find me and what kind of person I am.
Our demands aren't very high and the fans shouldn't be worried. Barça is a big club, they have proven that by renewing the contracts of other players who also deserved that and I believe that when it's Víctor Valdés' turn, when they think the time is there, we'll almost certainly reach an agreement.
I don't think that Valdés wants to earn the same as Casillas but everybody should ask what he thinks he's worth, which could be the same as Casillas. Víctor Valdés is the goalkeeper of FC Barcelona, one of the best teams in the world, he's proving his worth for several years now. Víctor Valdés is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and I don't doubt that he's at the level of Iker Casillas, Buffon or any other goalkeeper.
If we don't receive any offer of Barcelona, I don't think there would be a lack of interested clubs. I know of three, four, five first-level teams that are interested in his services, despite the fact that we didn't give any sign that he could be available. At this moment we're not even allowed to talk with anyone. He wants to renew but if we wouldn't reach an agreement to renew, it's very likely his future lies abroad. In Spain there's only one other club that could sign a goalkeeper like that and it's impossible that he would join Madrid."
Catalan radio station Ona FM:
"The talks with Barcelona are totally stopped and the club doesn't seem to be in a hurry. I would just ask them to show some minimal interest without using the excuse that Valdés is asking an excessive fee like has been commented. I don't think the end of this season should have an influence on any decisions, it's about his whole career at the club."
pep's opinion:
very disappointing attitude of valdes, first by appointing a madridista as his new agent and then allowing the guy to stir things up at this stage of the season by giving interview after interview on the renewal while the club has made clear that all renewal negotiations (valdes, puyol, marquez, gudjohnsen, eto'o) are postponed until the end of the season because everyone should focus on football for the next two months. i don't know what has gotten into his head: or the club treated him very badly or he has an offer he cannot refuse and is trying to get thrown out or he's just stupid. whatever it is, it's time he acts and orders his agent to keep his mouth.

Barcelona wants to renew Valdes
Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona wants to renew the contract of Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés (27), that expires in the summer of 2010 (read more here).
The technical department of the club thinks that it’s almost impossible at this moment to buy a quality goalkeeper who can deal with the pressure at Barcelona like Valdés can and as a consequence there has been decided that they won’t sign another goalkeeper this year but will try to renew Valdés' contract until 2014.
Last season, Barcelona sports vice-president Marc Ingla would have started renewal talks with Valdés and his father, who is acting as his agent. Barcelona would have made the player four offers, the last one including a gross year salary of around six million euro, plus another possible two million euro in incentives.
Valdés signed his current five-year contract in the summer of 2005. His salary was then believed to be 2 million euro plus 1,5 million euro in incentives. The player also got the promise of Barcelona president Joan Laporta that, if everything went well, he would get a pay rise after three years.
That pay rise didn't come and Valdés now not only wants a renewal but also still wants to receive this promised pay rise. Sources closes to the club and the player also both denied to the paper that Valdés would have asked to earn as much as Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Although a deal was close last year, it couldn’t in the end be finalized, also because Ingla left the club together with several board members in July. Since then, there have almost been no further contacts and the club has now decided to postpone all renewal negotiations until the end of the season.
Valdés would in the meantime have received three offers by interested clubs, one of them being AC Milan, that offers him a lot more than he’s currently earning at Barcelona. The priority of the Catalan goalkeeper is nevertheless to renew his contract with Barcelona.
Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Milan wants Valdés to replace Dida (read more here). The goalkeeper would have signed a few days ago an agreement with player’s agent Ginés Carvajal, who also represents Real Madrid player Raúl and whose first task is to negotiate a contract extension with Barcelona.
But although Valdés wants to continue at Barcelona, it cannot be excluded that he will be willing to listen to the offer of the Italian club. And independent from him joining Milan or not, former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard would be planning to include Valdés in his wish list if he would return to the bench this summer.

Youth: Agents battle to represent Deulofeu
Spanish football site Joinfutbol claims that the rumours linking Barcelona Cadete A wing attacker and Spanish youth international Gerard Deulofeu (14) with several English Premier League clubs (read more here), has caused serious competition amongst agents to get the chance to represent the player.
Ginés Carvajal (picture), the agent of Real Madrid forward Raúl, and Josep Maria Orobitg, the agent of Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola, would be amongst the agents interested to represent the Catalan player.
Confronted with all the offers, the parents of Deulofeu would now have asked the agents how much they would be willing to pay to become the official representative of the player.
