Renewal of Valdes until 2014 close

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that the renewal of Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés (27) is close.

Barcelona has offered Valdés, whose current contract expires at the end of next season, a new deal until 2014 and the previous economic differences between the parties would almost be solved (read more here).

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo nevertheless claims that Barcelona didn't yet talk with Ginés Carvajal, the new agent of the Catalan goalkeeper. Although it's likely that Valdés will continue at the club, a renewal deal wouldn't seem to be an easy thing.

Asked about the renewal of Valdés, Carvajal said in an interview with Spanish television channel TVE that he expects an agreement will be reached: "The renewal of Víctor will be very easy. I don't think there will be any problem since both Victór Valdés and Barcelona want him to continue. Víctor has been the first goalkeeper of Barcelona for seven or eight years now, so I think he has proven his qualities. His performances are at the same level as those of Casillas."

He's saved our hide plenty. But his wild flails are just not what you would expect out of a top goalkeeper. Anyway, maybe he could grow his hair back. It'll make him look bigger and intimidate opposing forwards :)

I will admit at the start of the season I was not a big fan of Valdes. I thought he was clumsy and not very good in the air. I am delighted to have been proven wrong. I am pleased for him. I think he has had a very good season and he certainly deserves a contract extension and pay rise. I commend his work ethic and ability to concentrate under the intense pressure and criticism he has received. Well done VV.

He deserves it, besides the espanyol game, he has played very well this season. Don't forget he's only 27! That's still young for a goalkeeper, so there is still room for improvement. But I think the most invaluable aspect about Victor is the experience he has at the club and the chemistry he has established with the defense.

Dude is now the gk with the most champions league titles in barca history. No other gk has 2. I guess he must be doing something right to win those. LOL, not to mention 3 league titles.

i gave valdes alot of flac in the beggining when he wasnt playing well. but all i can say is, he played clutch on every game that mattered. he never made a mistake in a game bigger than lyon and instead against chelsea and real he came up huge, against manU even though he was supposedly hurt, his free kicks were perfection, after he got hit, each kick he took went to a barca player and we kept possesion. i was skeptical in the beggining now im sure, valdes deserves to stay, he did great.

He sure did great but I have to correct you in small detail Areign.. VV didn't take the free kick, it was one of the center back who did most of that for him.

At the beginning, i'm with the peoples who says Victor Valdes isn't with the gank of the worldclass goalkeepers, but after this season, i'm witnessing with my own eyes that i'm totally wrong. And those peoples also. V.V. is a worldclass quality GK,, and especially for his one-on-one ability, i would say he is the BEST! He denied so many Henry's one on one chances at the 2005 CL's final, He denied drogba's one-on-one at semis this season, and the most beautiful thing, he denied Ronaldo's 90% chance at the 2nd half of this season's final!!!
I'm an Indonesian, but i'm a Barcelonistas forever! Barca, mes que un club!!
