Henry could join New York Red Bulls in 2011

Asked about the rumours linking him with a move to Major League Soccer team New York Red Bulls (read more here), Barcelona forward and French international Thierry Henry (31) told journalists that this could be an option in a few years time:

"You can never know but the truth is that it's very likely. I think it will be. You never know but yes, I think it will be. I have a contract for four years. I have more years on my contract, so I was always staying for now. I was never leaving. But it might be possible in 2011. I will stay at Barcelona for the two more years I have left and then I will leave."

great guy

Still a waste of money if he leaves for free in 2011. Unless he reaches his best Arsenal-level for the next two seasons.

He is as good as he was at Arsenal considering he is playing out of position and he is 31

djoef: We usually dont get money for the players we get rid of anyway. We just give them away as a service to the player. Soon, we will buy Bruno Alves for 25m euros, he is 28, so that is another one we won't get any money for in a couple of seasons. Real Madrid catches 23 year old Albiol for 15m. You have to give them credit.

How in the hell is the guy that made up part of the trio that scored 100 goals in all competitions in the season we won the treble a waste of money? henry had 25 goals in all competitions and several highly crucial ones see espanol(A) valencia (A) villareal (A) and lyon (A) games not to mention 2 more crucial goals in the lyon (H) game. Seems like money well spent to me.

We could have Ribery that summer, which would almost certainly would ahve been a better buy, even more so given the age difference. He did ok this season but he must confirm that now. One good season out of four would made him a bad buy.

go support MADrid. You know the Barca way already. You should moan we pay Unicef too and think we should get betting logos on our shirts. henry doesnt need to prove nothing to nobody. You need to prove you know the Barca way

Henry is a class-player, and he has showed us that this season. It seems logical to me that he plays out his contract and then retires/goes to major league soccer. Saying that he was a waste of money when the team won the treble and Henry was prominent in the league and the CL especially, is a load of crap! His professional attitude and rutine proved to be very important throughout the season, not to mention the many important goals he scored.

I think it's strange how people say "Henry is great if he leaves for free" while probably a lot of the same people say "Eto'o is a money pig when he leaves for free".

While Eto'o is a Barça legend and Henry is an Arsenal legend.

Henry should be thankful to Barcelona that we gave him the chance to finally win the one trophies that matters. He should accept to leave next year so we can still get something for him.

How much would you get for a 34 year old striker you bought for £16M? I am sure he would be valued at around £4Mil next year because he would have only one year left on his contract and would be 33!! So this war is over something in the region of £5M. We are more than a club and yes Henry should be gr8ful we gave him a chance to win the UCL, so also should we be greatful he contributed A LOT in winning the trebble for the 1st time ever. 2nd highest tackler, behind alves. Good on you Titi.

Great guy, but I personally expected more from him as a player. He hasn't been able to make an impact like I thought he would. He's a good team player, but that little extra I expected didn't come out. Yet.

barca4life said...

What would you get for a 32 year old henry? 8 million? 10 million if so much. Are you so hungry for money. And its different if henry leaves for free. If henry leaves for free we would not offer him a new contract. If etoo leaves for free we would have offered him a new contract and he would have rejected it. And most likely Henry is heading to the USA after he finishes with barca, Etoo would be heading to AC Milan Man Utd or Inter.

and one trohphy that matters? not really.. maybe on last missing trophy. cos Barca didnt give him the Euro cup and world cup. He had both at the same time

barca4life said...

And i think Henry said it during the first season he came here. He is no longer the Henry of Arsenal. He has suffered many injuries and has gotten older as well. Is he a great player? Hell Yes, Is he still a possible world player of the year? I'd have to say not really likely.

NouBarca said...

What extra did you expect? I am very eager to know. Tracking back? scoring goals? assist? getting past defenders with speed? I think he did all pretty well. ask a young S. what a 32 year Titis speed is like

We aren't offering Eto'o anything at the moment. First we will talk with Valdes, Toure, Puyol, Marquez, Iniesta, Messi, Gudhjohnsen, Hleb, Victor Sanchez, Pedrito. And if there's some money left we might offer Eto'o something too...

barca4life said...

And just to put it in perspective Henry has scored 45 goals in 89 games for Barcelona in 2 years. Thats a damned good ratio for somebody playing LW if you ask me. We arent offering etoo anything because he doesnt want to sign. Do you really think laporta and txiki would say etoo is desperate to stay, lets offer victor sanchez a new contract? And we are offering gudjohnson a new contract? LOL now i know you are speaking without facts.

NouBarca said...

thats more than 1 goal every other game? FACT!!! I know thats RAFAlicious..lol

henry, you are more than a striker.

groga said...

Fact is that Barcelona wants Eto'o out. If you would speak Spanish, you could go to any Spanish speaking forum and they will all say the same. Guardiola wanted Eto'o out last year and he still didn't change his mind. Laporta is trying to keep him but Guardiola is vetoing every offer Begiristain would made.

barca4life said...

Uhm everybody knows that guardiola wanted etoo out. Has he changed his mind? Are you a member of Barcelona's staff or are you just dealing in rumours?

groga said...

It's general knowledge in Catalonia. I know it doesn't fit the plan of some to make Eto'o the bad guy but...

barca4life said...

LOL, i want etoo to stay, I dont get what is that obsession with villa. Honestly i hope Valencia refuses to sell and we re-sign etoo.

groga said...

Villa would be good as extra guy if he would fit our budget, so we would have four top guys. Now we only have three and that's risky. Even if you sell eto'o and buy Villa (you lose money there), you should still buy someone extra. Henry, Villa, Messi and if one of them get injured, then what?

If Ramzi is right, Villa could come from the left too, so he could be play both on the left and in the centre. Although I prefer a real winger.

barca4life said...

Thats why i would have liked zlatan. Zlatan is not a real goal-poacher. Most people say play zlatan CF, but i'd rather play zlatan in Henry's position. Not a real LW but sort of a 2nd striker that drifts around. He is creative and can score golazos can score henry's 25 goals from last season and he also adds height to our team. he is way too expensive though.

The thing I cant understand with villa is he and etoo are the same age so why change it if it aint broken.

Mahi said...

yes but it is impossible to get ibra. if we can offer 40mil for villa then why dont 50 or 60 for ibra?????????

Dolce said...

Resigning Eto'o is not that easy because the player has no any plans to sign new deal anytime soon despite he kept saying that he will start to negotiate during the summer. If Barca doesnt sign Villa now, then the club must start to chase mediocre panic buys after selling Eto'o who might reject any Barca offer. Barca cant risk losing Eto'o for free. I admit that Barca returns to the starting place if they buy Villa and sell Eto'o but by doing that they will guarantee that the team has next season at least one of top striker(if you exclude Henry who plays as a winger). If Eto'o leaves, Villa is the only option for Barca because Zlatan is very pricy and Torres aint going anywhere. Yesterday EMD and Sport were sure that Villa deal is done, now they say that Barca is still planning to bid for Villa and Valencia has claimed that they havent got any bids for Villa. Let me guess, tomorrow RM will again try to hijack the deal...

Oh Henry...

You are alot better than that... the MLS is for washups that join a SHITTY ASS MLS team and you are not a washup and you'll never be... you proved that to critics who thought you were done...

Finish your career at Barca and prove everyone wrong again
