Barcelona hopes Eto'o will retire at the club

Asked about the renewal of the contract of Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28) (read more here), Barcelona president Joan Laporta has told journalists that he hopes the player will retire at the club:

"The contract of Samuel Eto'o expires next season so we need to sit down and talk. And that's what the technical department and the player's representative are doing.

The will of the club is that he continues for many more years because for me, Eto'o is the best striker in the world. Barcelona needs to find a deal based on our salary structure and that's what we're talking about. Samuel is a wanted player, but it would be nice if he would end his sporting career at Barcelona. I hope it will be like that."

Yesterday I saw an article on goal.com saying that Pep wants Eto'o to leave bcouse he is a troublemaker. Does Laporta and Guardiola disagree with each other? or is that post on goal just bullshit?

Goal.com and reliable don't really go hand in hand...

I guess that's old news. Last season maybe but it seems Pep and Samu has patched up their diff this season. I think what's happening is that Pep wants Samu to keep his attitude in check and that he is not indispensable as shown by the sale of Dinho and Deco.

Barcelona should just do an effort for him, show they want him and then he'll drop his demands and we'll find each other in the middle. If they even can break their salary structure for Valdes...

Renewing him will anyway be cheaper than getting another player, who will ask for the same salary (Zlatan even has twice the salary Eto'o currently has) and we'll spend more money on a new guy than we'll get for Eto'o if we sell him.

I agree resigning him is the overall cheapest option. Obviously I am a little biased towards Eto'o, however at this point I guess we have to wait for Madrid to spend their money as well ManU,Chelsea, and AC Milan. I wish teams would stop poaching from barcelona. This includes EPL teams poaching are youth and Madrid who apparently don't have scouting reports of their own.

Pep
I watched interview with Rafael Benitez with Sky sports.
He told that he know Mascherano is leaving (didnt say where) , with money of transfer he hopes he will get some good players in Liverpool , Sky Sports jurnalist told that they will try to get Melo or De Rossi , ...

I hope that Masch is comming at Camp Nou .

it will be good for barca to hold on to eto'o if they cant get villa or ibra, but i dont think he will retire at barca. he has already stated he wants to end his career at real mallorca, but if he stays at barca for another couple of years that will be good.

Re-signing Eto'o is the best solution for for everyone. Buying Ribery is an even better one!

Buying Ribery and kepping Eto'o or buying Villa and keeping Eto'o. It's the only options we should look for that fits our top 3 line. Get a decent LB backup and DM/CM backup (don't even have to be Mascherano or De Rossi class) and we are set for next season.
Loan out Caceres and Bojan, sell Gudy or Hleb.
Promote Thiago and Pedro (and maybe Muniesa).
Bring back Henrique or sign another CB.

That should be it...
