Barcelona joins race for Villa

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has yesterday joined the race for Valencia forward and Spanish international David Villa (27).

Valencia yesterday officially denied a deal with Real Madrid and several media claim that all negotiations between Real Madrid and Valencia are suspended.

Barcelona would have made a last-minute bid for the Spanish striker of 35 million euro° plus incentives depending on trophies won. The offer of Real Madrid would be 37 million euro, with Valencia reportedly asking 50 million euro°. Villa would prefer to join Barcelona.

For me he is the PERFECT replacement if Eto'o leaves. Sign him up and add Ribery- Henry goes to backup in those two spots- and we are set. Just keep Yaya as well

If Eto'o can't stay, I'd welcome Villa in his place.

However, if we only can sign one of Ribery or Villa I would be rooting for the frenchman.

Would be nice to snatch him right under their Real Madrid's noses though.. :)

i will be so happy if we sign him. all we will need to do is sign him and ribery and they can be our big name signings, then we can focus on the defence etc.

With all these suppose deals with Ibra, Ribery, or Villa is hard to believe. For example if we are bidding for Ribery (€40 mil), and Villa (€35 mil) thats €75 million total, Barca would not spend that much on two players. For now these stories are not believable until Ribery and/or Villa are present with their jersey by Laporta.

Another thing how do newspapers know when a deal is gonna happen? Like in this article, "El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has yesterday joined the race for Valencia forward and Spanish international David Villa." When a newspaper "claims" about a possible deal, do they have inside sources? Or how do they come to that assumption? Can somebody please tell me? :/

They have inside sources of course...

I hope this story/rumour calm a few nerves here. Tho we all know its nothing concrete but I guess people still love news like this. I love David Villa and would be by no.1 choice striker, and Ribery for the LF positions as Titi might not have the legs to carry out his intentions (32yrs).

Dude said...

Thanks fcbee... are these sources usually board members of some kind or associates afiliated with Barca?

first we have to know what eto'o and club wants to do and about this story i believe real's gonna get him

Martin Engelin said...

I'm not a huge fan of Villa. Yes he is like the best striker in the world. But I don't really like his style.

Even though I don't like im I really hope theese news are true. RM with Villa, Kaka and CR upfront is dangerous (Although havn't RM ever heard of something called defence?!). Villa is the perfect replacement for Eto'o. Villa is a better option than Ibra, and he seems too be cheeper aswell.

fcbee said...

Guess it can be anyone, Dude, including some secretary or the agent of the player. EMD and Sport are papers that live from Barcelona with journalists who only write about Barcelona and who build up relations through the years. Which doesn't mean everythign they write is true of course. They also have to sell papers so they probably also invent stuff every now and then or blow up a story.

By the way, the transfer of Villa would be independently from the exit of Eto'o. So Villa would be added to the current squad. But I guess in that case Ribery isn't an option anymore.

Finally... Hope we won the battle with RM.

I will cry a little if Villa joins us. It will be beautiful.

Anonymous said...

@fcbee we need ribery, actually i don't care about cf but we need to strengthen the left wing for sure

Villa is an excellent option. I just hope we don't get Ibra. I would rather spend that money on Villa and a left sided player. Villa has made it very well know he would 'PREFER' to join Barca. I hear we are also interested in Mata. He could be a very good buy. He had a brilliant season but of course is a Madrista!

he only wants to join madrid!!!!!
it's true:

fuck off villa

Dude said...

Once again thanks fcbee :)

In all with Valencia going through financial difficuly, im glad they denied a deal with Real Madrid for Villa.

Fabiano said...

Yeah, we're probably not going to get him.

But our board probably thought it would be funny to raise the price for this guy, so RM has to make even more depts.

as soon as i read "El Mundo Deportivo" the news is a fake in my eyes

What I've read on comments here is that people want this and that player while in truth none of us knows how Pep will arrange and play the team next season for all the competitions that we'll play. La liga and CL will need different gameplan and different sets of players, not to mention players missing for intl. duties. So let's have faith in him and barca management.

And all this talk of millions is just nego talk, supply and demand quote. Everything from player preferences incl. their family, club finances incl. debt etc. will in the end determine whether we'll get any player. I'll give them until the end of this month before I'll panic if we don't get replacements for any players that barca lose as this will surely disrupt Pep's gameplan.

This should be another "take it or leave it" proposal. 35M is quite fair price. All those recent transfer rumours are crap, so I don't believe that Villa prefers RM, but who knows.
Maybe Barca is making a favour to Valencia with this late offer to help them take as much as they can from Perez.
Anyway, I choose Mata over Villa and Eto'o renewal.

Dolce said...

Chelsea offered 50 million euros for Villa not a long ago but still Valencia said no. The former Valencia president knew that their team is nothing without Villa and thats why he refused to sell him. As an opportunist Perez is of course testing Valencia´s new presidents resolve over Villa. Barca should not let RM sign him without a competition but we wont get him for 35 million. In February 2009 El Mundo Deportivo claimed that Barca had reached a verbal agreement with Villa

Manolo said...

If Villa comes we will sell Eto'o and get money from him so it will not cost us 35 m € to get Villa.
Maybe 5-15 m € cuz we use the money we get from Eto'o.

Then we maybe can get Ribery, depends on the pricetag ofc.

If we wait a bit the pricetag could rise OR lower.

Some month ago he was worth around 35-45 m € and now like 45-80€.
To bad Barça are slow in the bed.

Scano814 said...

based on eto'o demeanor I don't think he should be here next season, that coupled with the fact that he can leave for free next summer.

This makes CF our priority not LW...I think we should really push for IBRA and then get zhirkov as he can cover both LW amd LB for us.

Sell Eto'o for 35, get Zhirkov for 20-25 and spend 55 on ibra. Sell Hleb and Guddy for 10-15. And we have only spent about 30 total and covered for 3 positions

Athul said...

Even if we end up spending 10-15 million more than what Eto'o transfer gives us,i reckon it won't be a bad deal in any way.

Villa is similar to Eto'o and knows his way around in liga.

Also, his yearly wage wouldn't be anywhere near what Eto'o wants.

How much could he be earning in Valencia?

Don Luis said...

You guys do know that Villa can play Left Wing right?

I hope this is true...

Finally!

This is a player I could imagine paying 50 mil for. He's worth it.

SJP said...

it was obvious that the press would start a transfer war between us and them, guess they chose villa. still think he will join them although if negotiations have stopped then there maybe some possibility, it can't be because RM can't afford it! if it =s not money thenit must be sporting reasons.

don't really see the point of selling etoo just to buy villa, same age, same knowledge of la liga etc. good point would be that it will piss RM off SO much that it maybe worth it just for that! then they will prob go and get ibra and there dressing room turns into a ego infested war room.

Anonymous said...

@SJP

Because Eto'o is gone after this season at the latest. We can't afford his wage demands.

Aussie Barca Fan said...

I retract my earlier comment. It is clear he only wants to join Madrid. He can sit on the bench there and peel oranges with CR7.

Xaviniesta said...

same with anonym that said he would cry, no wait i would weep lol. its more than beautiful. he would be perfect. he loves barca, he's no mercenary, he wouldnt be making impossible demands and has very little ego (in the barca mold), he has good chemistry with our spanish players esp our midfield whcih is impt, gets along with them off the pitch, hes one of the best hardworking players i know. he's not the skyscraper we're looking for but he has talents ibra doesnt have (he reguarly scores with headers while being short, also he's versatile, we can play him like messi i.e. out on the flank, behind strikers or in front of, villa is dangerous from all fronts). anyway, it will be the transfer coup of the season if we get him eclipsing ronaldo and kaka even (villa is the better catch imo). heck, if we end up signing him i'll kiss laporta's feet lol.

Unknown said...

I think villa will join madrid and this story is not true...Madrid is very very close to signing him and barca wasted the time for signing Ibra and its so sad that barca is acting too late for this great striker...in the end I hope A MIRACLE happens and Barca sign him.... the best signings for barca will be: 1-Ribery 2-Zhirkov 3-Bruno Alves 4-Villa/Ibra...

Xaviniesta said...

*or in front of goal (as lone striker).

mike said...

bruno alves would be an awful signing hadi. He is slow as a turtle and simply would be overpriced. Not needed either with Henrique and Marquez both returning.

Xaviniesta said...

hadi, he is very a close to luis enrique, i hope barca plays this card. also, the money wont be as much a concern to villa as it is to valencia. it wont turn his head but i agree barca should make a resolute move if they want him. i think we will have the upper hand. for one madrid has all these strikers what do they do with them and raul isnt likely to leave, madrid fans will riot if he is let go so villa knows he will compete for 1st striker position while at barcelona he will be the preferred choice..

selectah said...

regarding the LW position: why isn't anybody talking about valencia's silva anymore? his quality should be undisputed, and he is way cheaper than ribery.

jazzy said...

no he is not cheaper than ribery cause valencia already put a "not for sale tag at any price" for him. its because he is from their youth product and they rather keep their youth and sell villa.
so theres no talks about silva anymore, not even in RM.
but there is a talk about MATA for LW(he is not from their cantera btw).
