Verbal agreement with Villa

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has reached a verbal agreement with Valencia forward and Spanish international David Villa (27).

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain and the player's agent José Luis Tamargo would have been in permanent contact over the last months. Villa, whose contract with Valencia expires in 2014, would like to make another step forward in his career by joining Barcelona.

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would like Villa a lot and would already have put the player on top of his wish list last summer, when Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o seemed to be on his way out.

If Guardiola gives his final approval, which is likely to happen, Barcelona would start negotiating with Valencia. Although Villa has a buyout clause of 100 million euro°, the financial problems of Valencia will most probably force the club to sell some players next summer. With presidential elections coming up in Madrid, Begiristain would like to speed up the negotiations to avoid a bid race.

he will cost too much and will be already 28 when he starts playing for us.. so i prefer someone els. he also lacks strength wich we need when teams pull back! I do like his technical skills and his scoring abilty!

@Jordy...
can you name someone else other than Benzema or Aguero who you want to be the central striker at Barcelona??? Benzema has openly admitted tat he would like to play in Real... so we dont need him... Agueor is gud but he cannot be the tall central striker for us... Villa would be the perfect option according to me...

he is not a six feet striker :((

On a side note, did you guys read about the Gourcuff transfer possibility? Isn't it awesome?

@ sashi
ofcourse samuel eto'o, zlatan, fernando torres, alexandre pato

i'm not saying he's not good, but he's already 28 next year and he is really exepensive. benzema or aguero can be sold when they're worn off..

about benzema:
so what, luis enrique did play for madrid and I was thrilled he played with us! ribery also said he would like that, even ronnie in 2003! That's no criteria. did you know iniesta his first choice was madrid when he was little? I really don't care about statements. If you look at the interview they ask benzema about madrid. If a barça paper asks him about barça he'll probably tell the same. I'm pretty sure they will not buy him. at leat not the coming season..RVN,Raul,higuain,huntelaar

And about aguero is a bull. he just isn't tall.

Gourcuff would really be awesome! I would like him!

Benzema said he chose white. That means once madrid come in with a bid he will accept. Doesnt make sense us chasing somebody whose heart is elsewhere. VDV said he wanted barca and ended up in Madrid, i know but still. Benzema will be very expensive especially with man utd and real madrid chasing. We should get somebody with less of a high profile. Etoo was a real madrid reject that we took from mallorca. We should get a younger striker with potential that isnt going to cost as much.

I still dont take it seriously that Milan will give up on one of the most talented young midfielders in europe whom they have to buy an old-OLD-OLD!!Ball Kicker like Beckham.
Beside its unlikely they can afford the financial bill of this transfer. So I consider all the hype of "Beckham will stay" as an intentional attempt to gain more money while the player is in italy, selliung shirts and gadgets and attracting sponsorships.

didnt we also reach a verbal agreement with aguero some time last year? how likely is this really?

Anonymous said...

i thought so, too

Verbal agreement with the player doesn't mean that there's an agreement with the club...

Too old. All he is going to do is stand in Bojan's way for another 3 yrs.

@Jordy...
do u really think we can buy Torres, Zlatan or Pato from their clubs??? be realistic... Villa is not costly for his skills.... do you know how much Chelsea are holding out for Drogba who has his best days long gone???

@ sashi
You asked who I wanted to be striker @ barça other than benzema or aguero

Aguero and Benzema aren't playing in first class clubs so it seems logical to me that they are mentioned by myself and not the ones we can't get anymore.. but since you've asked..

Well 45 - 50 m not costly for a 28y old guy? I'd rather get someone else. we would get 30 for eto'o, so i don't think it's an interesting operation changing eto'o for villa. besides i agree with the fact that villa would stand in bojan's way. they are very resemblant in their way of playing. All the guys i've mentioned are other type of players. Aguero maybe not but I think he will be the absolute number one striker in a couple of years. wich villa to me is certainly not.

He is a bit old and not tall. This would at best be a stop-gap solution for our striker problem. If we do get him, I do not see him playing with us for more than 2-3 seasons max.

Agüero is not playing with a first class club? Atletico surely is a good club. Further, Agüero's credentials in La Liga are proven unlike those of a certain Mr. Benzema.

Villa simply does not have age on his side, so to pay anything above €30 million for him, no matter how prolific he is would be a mistake on our part.

why are people saying villa would be a bad buy because he stands in the way of bojan? what do you think aguero or benzema would do?

@Knives Out
Barça is not a buying-club like Chelsea. Therefore, it's not cool.

I rather we use Bojan instead of buying Villa. :/

I don't think Villa is what we need. He and Eto'o are similar types of player, similar age etc etc. I would prefer Eto'o ova Villa. I think it is pointless to sell Eto'o and use the money to buy him. Good luck against Mallorca tomorrow!

villa would be even better in a savage team team like barca, hes not far behind eto'o in the goal scoring charts playing for a mediocre team and also would be a better player to have in the dressing room than eto'o. bojan is nowhere near that level yet, in my opinion he might never get to it so its only logical to bring in villa.
