Barcelona starts negotiations with Asenjo

Catalan television channel TV3 claims that Barcelona has started negotiations with Real Valladolid goalkeeper and Spanish youth international Sergio Asenjo (19).

Barcelona would have immediately picked up the talks after the renewal negotiations with Barcelona goalkeeper Valdés broke down today. Catalan sports paper Sport claimed earlier this week that Asenjo was postponing a deal with Atlético Madrid to see how the talks between Barcelona and Valdés would evolve (read more here).

I'll only believe when it happens. We are being linked to so many goal keepers.. Frey, that mallorca goalkeeper, Asenjo, even Mananda at one point of time!

well thats quick..;)

He will not sign. I dont even think Asenjo is on our radar. I would presume we would rather go for someone like Almunia or Abbiati.

well if it happens, guess there would be (almost) no chance for our cantera GK ruben mino or oier to break the first team. they're the same age. asenjo is that good?..lol
doubt the likes of mino or oier wants to become another jorquera. just hope the best for our GKs.

Almunia, Abbiati? No way. Maybe Reina or Frey, but not those two.
I'd prefer to buy Asenjo and to have one rather experienced keeper. Pinto would be enough:)
Or maybe we could take Moya as well.

I still see a chance for Valdes to renew though.

I hope this is true, he's the greatest talent in spain on his position and even one of the greatest in the whole world!

Mino and Oier just aren't good enough, that's clear to everyone that is following the B team. If you then can sign this guy for only 5 million euro... It's a once in a lifetime chance but also a huge risk for such a young guy, so it's up to the staff. Valdes' insane demands leave us no choice to let him go and look out for someone else.

Ondra: I only said what I thought we we were going to do, not really what I want us to do. And I think we would go for someone really expensive and old, someone heavily overpriced, that leaves out players like Asenjo.

How i hope this is true !!
Offers like this dont come often.
Mark my words ... This guy will be the next Big star for Barca.

Ok all of you who want big spending here is our chance. We dont have any great prodigy from our academy and we need a good young gk. personally i wish we splurge on reina but asenjo looked really good yesterday.

thats what i think too barca4life ,mino isnt that good ,and oier is way too unstable and needs expirience a loan would be great.asenjo is currently the best young goalkeeper out there, not only he has stable performances but is good in every aspect.he has exp in la liga and he can be our keeper for alot of years to come,a keeper that can become casillas challenger in the national team also in some years.

If Victor is gone then this is the right kind of kid to replace him, IMHO

Agreed on Asenjo. But would he be ready to step right in, or would we do a Pinto transitional phase?

I do like Asenjo. He doesn't have a major deficiency in his game that seems irreparable.

Mino seems like a decent shot stopper, but in that clip he was not the fastest off the line. I could see that being a problem similar to Valdes with his exits. Oier just does not exude confidence.

Asenjo is a great keeper. When you are Barcelona's keeper you won't have much to save, but each save is important. I think he could stand between the posts, save some shots, and start growing in confidence.

He is definitely the future replacement for Casillas, and we have historically had GK problems, so this is our chance to snatch him for the future.

His transfer fee is less than what Valdes is demanding to be paid for a year.

I hope this is true. I'm more excited by this signing than Villa, Ibrahimovic etc.
This signing could truly strengthen our team.

If Guardiola don't think Mino or Oier has what it takes than this is the perfect option if VV leaves. Otherwise someone older.

Anyone who knows how much Valladolid wants for Asenjo?

His clause is apparently 5 or 5,5 million, while without a clause he would sure be 20 or more. Financially, it's a steal.

He apparently only wants to join as first keeper, and I don't know about that. Wouldn't be the first "great" or "promising" goalkeeper who fails with us. They seemed to have scouted him quite intesnely over the last month, so hope the coaches make the right decision. If Valdes would accept 6 million until 2014, I'd still go for a renewal though.

if this choice is the best choice for the club then i hope that it happens

I am sure Valdes will renew by the end of the week although if he doesn't for any reason Asenjo for me would the the number 1 choice to replace him. He is an excellent GK in the making and will replace king Iker as number for Spain within the next 5 years.

Negotiations with Valdes aren't over yet, his agent denied that according to Sport, they are going to come to an agreement - there is no way he will be leaving, trust me.

Asenjo looks very promising indeed, and I wouldn't mind gambling on him - if infact they can't come to a conclusion on the negotiations.

His agent is saying that because he knows he can't get that kind of money anywhere else. They never wanted to leave Barca despite what they've said about how 'the world doesn't not end at Barca'. They thought by this time Barca would crack and give in, but now that Barca has stuck to the plan they're backtracking. Now they want to 'negotiate', we should lower our offer to Valdes.

if valdez leave we need asenjo. i really dont have a preference which, but as long as its one of those two, ill be estatic

kalaq said...

It will be a little bit weird when the gk position is not valdes anymore(after whole year he play). But then asenjo is good in that position only lack of experience which is important for someone to be gk.
So I prefer we try to get petr cech.

TengkuAmir10 said...

petr cech is gonna be for sale if we bid let me guess..40 million €.he's too expensive.

jazzy said...

can we just trick asenjo, tell him that he would be 1st choice. and after he sign a contract w/ us... Valdes Renew! LoL..
just kidding..thats really cruel..
damn i've been playing too much FM.. lol
well whatever happen, hope it will all turn well for us and the respective players.
