Manchester City confident of signing Eto'o soon

British tabloid The Daily Mail claims that Manchester City believe they are close to signing Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28).

Club sources would have indicated to the tabloid that Eto'o is willing to move to England after being won over by their vision of the future and their salary offer. Barcelona would have stated privately that they are willing to sell. The transfer fee would be around 23 million euro°.

23 million euro =

33 million us dollar
20 million british pound

Hope Ibrahimovic or whoever our target is cost less than 53 million euros then!

why is eto'o so cheap while he is in the same age as ibrahimovic and he has the best scoring resutls within the last years? is it because of his contract running out in 1 year?

Jeff McJefferson said...

seems inevitable that Samuel's gonna be going, even after such a great season, after last summer when they said he was surplus to requirements, and I think that we should be taking advantage of the money bags at Man City, at least £28m, at LEAST. i know many of us will be sad to see him go, but we have young talent on its way through and it would be to have a dynamic bigger lad up front. Trouble is, Ibra is too lazy, like Berbatov is although Ibra's admittedly better. We really need a Nando Torres style player, not Adebayor. Benzema, is he it? I'm not sure yet. Any ideas, other thatn the usual same 3 names we hear mentioned all the time? NOT David bloody Villa, too many midgets! Great great player, but we need a bigger presence too.

Anonymous - yes it's because his contract is running out, and it seems like he's willing to play one year and let it run out. I'm still surprised we can't sucker a 30 million bid out of Man City. I mean they have trouble getting big time players to go there and Eto'o had such a fantastic season, we gotta try to milk a little more cash from them, you know they're desperate after their failed 100 million Kaka bid.

My choice for the forward position is Fernando Llorente. He is young (24), tall enough (1,95) and cheaper than any other opions on the market, he is well set uped like Ibra and imo he has a lott of talent too. We need him.
What do u think about it?

skanjos said...

like we needed adebayor last year ehm....... the only strikers we should be interested are benzema ,ibrahimovic, kun, villa in that order

Anonymous said...

kun is a midget skanjos and benzema is worse than llorente. keep in mind that forlan scored twice as many goals as kun this season. llorente managed almost as many as kun in a team that is much worse than kun's team. I think Aron is telling the truth.

It's so crazy to get rid of eto'o.. the only player who I am really confident about who will never lose his hunger!
Zlatan is a great player but will he accept to earn less than messi? and why should iniesta receive less than zlatan? what has he proven more?? I think these things will bring only more problems. if eto'o goes, not for less than 35 million!
if you have an attack with messi zlatan and ribery, there is no one who seeks dept. they all run to the ball. We get predictable that way. now we can go deep, with henry and eto'o, we have players who can come with the ball on their feet messi iniesta. why ruin this?

Are you crazy?
More talent than Zlatan?
Zlatan is one of the best players in the world, after xavi and messi.
Llorente would be a fine backup, if we didn´t have Bojan.
It's a shame that Zlatan i as old as he is, but I still say, Let's pay the price and get the best forward to the best team.

I am very saddened at this news. It seems inevitable that Eto'o is leaving, but deeply dissapointing as he is my fav player.

I will respect what the club does but I still don't have to agree with it. I would prefer we now buy David Villa.

HouseMD said...

23M is very very low price for the player like Eto'o. For that amount I'd sell them his boots and Barca shirt with Eto'o's signature.

I don't think that Zlatan, Villa, Benzema or whoever will do a better job than Eto'o.

to Søren

I never said that Llorente is talented than Ibra. I can agree that temporaly Ibra is 1 of the best strikers. BUT Llorente has the potential to be on the same level in the next couple of years. And we all know that Laporta and Tixi never will pay 50-60-70 million euro for a striker. This is not our strategy, it is Chealsky, Citizens and Real, but not ours. Imo we never going to buy Ibra.

I think it is disrespectful to call Aron crazy. What do you think, Aron?

My appologies, I misread.
I don't agree that Llorente has the potential to be anywhere near Zlatans level.

I think it is a good thing to get a new striker in, look at Eto'o. He has more chances than any in the league, in the last games, he was given every single ball and still he didn't win Pichichi.

A top class striker like Zlatan could be spectacular ind Barca.

tero said...

ManC needs to pay lot more than 23M to sign Eto'o.Besides, he's not going anywhere

HouseMD said...

@ tero: I hope so, but Guardiola already decided that he'll get rid of him.
As I said the price is very low and I hope Barca will not make something stupid like buy Forlan for 36M. It would be disaster. Better to cash in on the other players.

James said...

Henry's contract will also expire in a year right? Why aren't we trying to offload Henry to City for some cash instead? We're going to lose Henry for nothing too.

James said...

Oh nevermind I guess Henry has one more year after 2010. Still, he's not going to be worth much come this time next year.

sashi said...

why does anybody not think for a moment about Bojan?????? then u can decide who our CF is gonna be this year. do u want Bojan to spearhead our attack in 3-4 years? if yes, we would only have to go for a player aged 26-28. else, we can very well sell Bojan and get Llorente or Dzeko or any-new-name-center-forward.

I am too saddened that Eto'o might be heading out the door. If he does leave then i believe that Barca should bring in Villa because he brings experience to CL play compared to Llorente which he lacks. Villa will also would be cheaper than Zlatan, and both are great similar finishers (Villa 28 goals, Liga) (Zlatan 25, Serie A). Plus it will be a safer bet since Villa has the experience in Liga over Zlatan. Lastly, it showed at the Euros how Villa plays well with Xavi and Iniesta being the providers with through balls and causing havoc with the defense.

but Sashi, Llorente and Dzeko are big, burly players. Bojan totally different.

Anonymous said...

Oh that sounds nice. Yeah right sell etoo for 23 and they bought Caceres for 17 thats understandable enough.

Llorente plays for a team struggling against relegation though. Benzema is really bad according to that statistic. 17 goals for Lyon? Even Gignac managed 24 goals this season in France.

i'd be very sad to see eto'o going, especially to a team like this, and i agree if they want him then milk the bastards get £30 mil at least.

as for ibra, can any of his seemingly many fans on this site name me one BIG game where he has shone? i don't see him week in week out so i don't know him that well but i have seen him at world cups, euro's and CL, the games where the best players step up and he has done nothing. i think 70 mil for him is a joke, for that money we could buy torres, 2X the player of ibra. for me the best option would be dzenko or llorente and keep eto'o, neither would expect to be guarenteed first team and would offer something different.

just because madrid want galacticos why should we follow suit?no matter who they buy they still wont have the best players...messi, iniesta, xavi, alves, bojan, the whole squad!

Bubben said...

In the euro 2004 against italy. He steped up and delivered one of the most spectacular goals of this century, i bet you all have seen it. He backheels a ball in the top left corner of the goal in a chaotic situation in the penalty area.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiKiJ9jlHOw

here you can see it for yourself. And you have to remember that sweden doesn not have anywhere near as talented players as barcelona has. Whenever sweden goes through the group stage of a tournament its said it was a successful tournament. In any of the bigger countries not advancing is a failure.

23 million for Eto'o?!

Outrageous.

John G said...

Relax everyone. Never believe anything from the press especially The Daily Mail, Marca, Tuttosport, etc, unless it is a report of an official announcement from FC Barcelona. Laporta, Txiki will meet with Eto to discuss a renewal. Barca is also interested in signing another striker to cover for Eto when he is tied up in the African Nations Cup.

Anonymous said...

Thats true John G, but Barça doesnt want to meet the salary demands Eto'o has anymore. If he is to sign a new deal it would mean he will earn a substantial amount of money less than he does now. Given the fact that his current deal ends in 2010 and that his value will drop in the next few years i changed my mind and i think its time to sell him.
I hope Villa can replace him. That would be awesome, but he is very expensive.
