Cesc wants to continue at Arsenal

Asked about a possible offer by Barcelona, Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (22) has said in an interview with Catalan sports paper Sport that he wants to continue at Arsenal this summer:

"I didn't have any contact with Barcelona at all. An offer from Barça would of course be something special but Arsenal made me captain this season, so I have an added responsibility, my link with the club is stronger and I would be delighted to lift a trophy as captain of the gunners.

I want to win trophies, every player wants to be able to look back at a career with trophies. I want to win and I'm happy at Arsenal, but it has been four years without titles and for a player who wants to win that's a long time. If you don't win trophies, you cannot be happy although we didn't end the season in a bad way. We just couldn't make that last step. Maybe we just weren't good enough this season.

If Guardiola would call me, that would be something different. He has always be an example for me. I've always played at his position, because of him I wanted to wear the number four... Since I was a child, he was my football hero, the one I liked most. I've tried to imitate things he did and as a coach he has again shown what he's capable of. It's a person who will always be important in my life. He's someone worth to admire.

Could I play a role in next year's presidential elections? I don't know what will happen next year, so much things can happen... Football is so unpredictable that it's very difficult to talk about that. I know Sandro Rosell, yes. I talked with him once, but that was related with my brand. Nothing else. Could I play together with Xavi and Iniesta? I think good players can always play together but I insist that I'm an Arsenal player and that I cannot talk about all this.

I didn't talk with Arsène Wenger about my situation at the club and there's no reason for that because there's nothing new. I'm delighted to continue at Arsenal. If we need to talk one day, it will be behind closed doors and there won't be any problems."

Of course he doesn't want to join Barca...yet.
If he'd Barca this summer, he wouldn't get as much playing time as he gets in Arsenal because he's not gonna put Xavi or Iniesta on the bench, they're much better than him.
And he won't play as a DM since Toure and Bousquets are better than him at defending.
But I'm sure he will return to Barca someday

You seem to be contradicting yourself Cesc...

Arsenal will win their trophies and soon as well. They are a club that is run the right way and dedicated to true football. IMO they are the ENglish Barca but still in development. In a year or tw othey will be consistently dominating England. Could win it this coming year with Man Utd decline and Liverpool in financial trouble... Wengers a great leader

Read his quote carefully. For me it's a green light for Barca esp. Pep. He's an Arsenal captain, hence he needs to show loyalty to his club, fans and more so his teammates. By saying this, he's telling Arsene do something about Arsenal's fortune or let him go.

That way, he'll be not look upon as a traitor should he moves to Barca which I presume would be in January or next season, if and when Arsenal fails to shine. I doubt it would be this session as he's a different type of player that Barca needs right now.

I think he'll come to Barca after next season. If Arsenal win something, he will say "I made it as a captain and now I can leave." If they don't win, he'll leave because he won't be happy:)

i hope he waits with arsenal for two more seasons then we ca bring him in and slowly ebb xavi out, like pique/puyol. arsenal are my favourite english team as they are the only team in the EPL that plays decent football but i can't see how they will ever win the league, if united, liverpool, chelsea have a bad year they just go out and buy more players. now city are wading in arsenal's philosophy of developing players won't get them anywhere, which is a shame.

Is it just me or is he offering himself too Barca? He wants too be loyal with Arsenal and thats why he says that he wants too stay, especially now that he is the captain. But he says that if Pep would cantact him he would be interested.

Um i think the title should be "Cesc pimps himself to Barca". If anything his statements are saying "please, please Pep come get me. Just call me and im yours". I mean that is basically what he is saying if you read between the lines. You dont even need to read between the lines that much!!

I dont want him at Barca ever. Him, Merrida, Pacheco, Dos Santos etc. shud be set as an example to youth players that once u leave the way he did, U r NOT welcome. Let him rot at Arsenal without major honours. Hell, he didnt even rule out moving to Real Madrid when linked with them

i would like it if he comes back, but w/ a reasonable price.
like barca4life said: (in the pedro post)
"barca isnt just about developing talent for our youth team, we are about giving these youngsters a chance to play football and earn a living weather it be at barca or elsewhere."
his heart is at barca, but he knows he cant compete (yet) w/ xavi and iniesta.
remember, he wouldnt be the player he is today if he didnt leave barca.

mike said...

jazzy: cesc was awarded top player in the u-17 world cup when he was at barcelona. his style is barca through and through. and to you Sid: Pique is in our team, so your example doesn't make sense.

barca4life said...

Sid would you have us sell pique then? because he was immense in the champions league final and against chelsea and real madrid in the last few months of our season. But we should show our youth players that they cant ever come back right?

jazzy said...

thats right mike he is a great talent. but like i said, he wouldnt be the star player he is now if he didnt leave barca. he would be a "wonderkid".
in arsenal now, he is their main player. the "xavi" there. and even so great he becomes their captain.
if he was still w/ barca, he sure would be great to, but not as fast as this, and i could see him like bojan, playing regularly as a substitute and rotation position.

Anonymous said...

He would be a star at us, just like Messi and Pique who are both the same age as cesc.

jazzy said...

he would be like iniesta a few years back in the shadows of deco..
do you really think he would be our first team regular w/ players like xavi-iniesta in the CM?

Anonymous said...

yes, iniesta would kick henry out of the team and xavi-cesc would play in the CM like Spain in the Euro final.

The article is taking things out of context.

From Soccernet:
'Spanish newspaper Sport Fabregas suggested that if Barca boss Guardiola were to get in touch with him personally it ''would be different''.'

Another:
'Fabregas admits he holds Guardiola in special regard, saying in Sport: ''I've always looked up to him. I've always played in his position, I've liked to wear his number four shirt. When I was small he was my footballing hero, the player I liked most. I've tried to imitate things that he did and as a coach he's shown again what he can do. He is a person who will always be important in my life.'' '

He also said what he said in the article though. However, taking out the main point (admiration of Pep) is twisting the truth.
