Spanish sports site Eurosport claims that former Barcelona left back defender Sylvinho (35) is close to joining Celtic Glasgow.

The Brazilian defender, whose contract with Barcelona expired this summer and wasn't renewed (read more here), would be motivated by the chance to again take part in the Champions League and is reported to be on the verge of signing a one-year deal.

The Evening News nevertheless claims that senior Celtic sources confirmed that Sylvinho is not the player new Celtic manager Tony Mowbray wants to sign, with the coach trying to drive down the age of his squad and the wage structure of the club not allowing the signing.

With the schedule of the upcoming season, and what Sylvinho brings to the dressing room I really wish they had considered keeping him.

Look at how he played in the CL final, I wish Sylvinho retired in a Barca jersey.

Before they bought Maxwell, I was with you, Byronic. I would have had preferred keeping Sylvinho over paying 10 million sfor Filipe Luis, but Maxwell is just a great buy for 4,5 millions.
