[2008] Drogba, Adebayor or Berbatov

this post was published exactly one year ago:

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona isn't hurrying while looking for a new centre forward. The main reason is that Barcelona isn't willing to pay the amounts of money that could be involved.

While the club is still doubting on whether or not to start pushing hard for a 30 year old player like Drogba who has been injured during last season and whose club isn't willing to let the player go, Barcelona isn't even thinking about paying the transfer fee Arsenal is asking for Adebayor.

And even with Tottenham dropping the price to prevent the player from leaving for Manchester United (read more here), the transfer fee for Berbatov still seems too much.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that this weekend could be decisive for the transfer of Drogba since the ten-days period in which he would make a decision about his future are coming to an end (read more here). The player would prefer to join Barcelona this summer.

British tabloid The Sun meanwhile claimed this week that Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola is not happy with the massive wage demands of Adebayor and with the attitude of his advisors. That would be the reason why Barcelona will not pay the 47 million euro° asking price for the Togolese striker.

Asked by journalists about the rumours linking Drogba and Adebayor with a summer move to Barcelona, Guardiola today refused to rule out making offers for both players: "Barcelona are always interested in good players. Those players are interesting but so are many others in Europe."

i don't understand arsenal ok they want to keep their main CF but if he doesn't want to play for the team whats the point? get some money for him fair enough but for a player who has only had one good season 47 is ridiculous, they need to half their demands. still out of the three i would prefer ade as he is younger and has potential, the coaching staff can improve his finishing, but not for that price.

OF Drogba, Ade, Berba I WUD PREFER DROGBA FOR 2 REASONS;

FIRSTLY HE IS A LATE BLOOMER
SECONDLY HE STILL HAS A LOT OF CLASS AND FIGHT LEFT IN HIM.
SIGNING ON A 2-3 year deal might be
an ok option.

BUT ETO'o SHOULD STAY EVEN WITH DROGBA COMING IN.

WUD STILL PREFER BARCA BIDDING FOR THE LIKES OF HUNTELAAR (B4 MADRID PICK HIM UP)

Forget them all. Get Benzema, Aulas even said, if his coach request Eto'o , they could buy him in one second.

So, we give them Sammy + 20 Mio., they give us Karim and we're set for years.

"So, we give them Sammy + 20 Mio."

Are you out of your freaking mind?

I agree with the comment above. Benzema is not valued at 60m.

Either way, why are Barca limiting themselves to these three players. Few strikers for the English and Italian leagues has the same impact in Spain. They should look in Brazil and Argentina.

However, with Ronnie gone, I feel the attention should be on replacing him. Sammy doesn't seem to be going anywhere, (which I have read, is a decision liked by many fans) and with Henry and Bojan, the central position is done. I hate for them to spend so much time looking for a 'replacement' for Eto'o that they neglect LWF, and has to settle for somebody or put Henry in a position that doesn't exploit his main attacking qualities.

I agree with the comment above....we need to find a left winger more urgently than a striker. As it stands we have that poistion covered, but our wings seem quite bare......if we lose Messi due to injury (and its not unlikely) then as it stands now we are left with very little in terms of wingers. But Silva or Neves and keep Eto'o. Trezerguet would be a waste of money and to be honest a bit of a joke.

Pep any news on the left wing position? I have been hearing lots and lots about the strikers but very little about the wingers!?!?

Haven't you lot heard that Benzema wants to stay in Lyon for 1-3 years. And Lyon is not willing to sell him yet.

Therefore I think Adebayor and Pavluchenko will be the best choice. They both have a good shooting technique and are good in the air.

Also, I don't mind Barca Keeping Both Eto'o and Henry if they really can't get a Striker.

But certainly, don't get Drogba, he is bolocks.

ya whoever put eto'o + 20 mil euro for benzema is completely crazy..........if anything its eto'o for benzema + 25 mil euro ;)

out of all the options they are lookin at, I hope Drogba comes in

Just swap Eto'o + 10-15mil for Drogba and Malouda. That sounds like a "fair" trade. We keep our fingers crossed that Malouda can recreate the success he and Abidal shared together, linking up while at Lyon.

In effect Barcelona would be "killing two birds with one stone" - getting their "ideal" target man AND a left winger in the process. I call that quite a bargain! Of course it all rides on Malouda being able to recapture his form. But playing alongside your partner that your familiar with and moving to a less physical league could be just what the doctor ordered.

I agree very much with the idea of replacing ronnie with a left wing forward. david silva if possible, or thiago neves. neves is a great choice...

I dont understand why we shud spend so much money on players like drogba, ade or berbatov whose style of plays are remote from our playing style? If needed we can put henry in the middle..

we shud keep eto'o..and get a good left winger..we are all set. we dont need more players. arshavin tak is kind of stalemate . i would rather change the heading to arshavin, silva or thiago
