Manchester City makes Eto'o a new offer

British tabloid The Daily Mail claims that Manchester City was last night coming closer to sign Barcelona attacker and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28) (read more here).

The English club would pay Barcelona a transfer fee of around 35 million euro°, while Eto'o would get a year salary of 11,7 million euro net for four years. Barcelona sources reportedly told the tabloid that the deal is almost complete.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo nevertheless claims that Eto'o has rejected a 10 million euro a year offer by Manchester City because he wants to take part in the Champions League next season. Inter Milan and Manchester United would still be interested in the Cameroonian striker.

I have a few things I need to comment on. 1st, Can Barca transfer Eto'o against his will??? 2nd, didn't Eto'o request 10-million...so this should meet his salary demands unless he is bullshitting. 3rd, whatsup with barca this transfer season??? We look like jews watching our pennies and not our players. No offense to da jews out there

1st question: No, a contract has been signed so that should be respected. If they want to break him, they would have to compensate him for that.

*break it*

dude, that was highly offensive. just say we look cheap. no need to use a f*cked up stereotype.

The way I see it, players(especially strikers) want to play for barca nowadays. So they could(theoretically) be made to pay a premium for playing for us, i.e lower wages. The clubs have a alot more bargaining power over players contracts, lets hope they realise this.

oo and i forgot keita , he can replace the 5 M Euro MF guy

sell gudi , caceres , etoo
in aguero tevez 5M LWB Gai Henrique

i don't know what he wants to...
if he want 10m, his demand is met only by city.
Inter or ManU never offer him 10m.

This is a no-brainer, the player has made it clear that he wants to play in the Champions League next season, a move to England presently is not in his quarry and he still wants to remain in Spain. Laporta has confirmed that they would try to keep Eto'o at Camp Nou. I believe the only solution is to see how things pan out. I want him to stay because he is one those players that run at the opponent's defence and destabilize defensive plays, he also makes a good pair with Henry up front and sometimes take on an attacking midfield role.

1) Samuel dont speak like ths on jews.

i think the ibra eto'o swap should be revisited...maybe w/hleb in the mix as inter need a creative mid...if not...adebayor?

Sorry guys didn't know this would strike such a nerv. I am simply expressing my frustration over our transfer policy thus far. It seems like we have been all over the place this transfer season. Barcelona really should learn from american sporting clubs. The first order of business when you win championships especially one as prestigious as the treble is to ensure the stability of team.

So what does this mean??? It means renew everyone's contract that had an integral role in us achieving this amazing feat. So its imperative to renew Eto,Valdes, and Yaya. Obviously we have a few concerns. 1.) LW 2.) DM 3.) LB 4.) ST

given the unfortunate circumstances and with a tear in my eye i say lets hope etoo will support the deal. i reckon this is the best offer we can get for him. it seems liek he is adamantly trying to be earning insane money so lets be it. i love the guy but im more and more convinced that our ways will part.. so lets get the best deal possible and buy ibrahimovic as we have apparently missed on villa..

btw "ej" you cant be serious about your line-up friend. those three attackers are great as individuals but i strongly doubt that this attackign line-up with the average height of about 4"0" (a lil bit of satire, sorry..:) would be the best option out there..

If we are selling him to mancity we should not sell for a cent less than 45 mil. Mancity has the money, and eto'o's market value is 42mil. I dont understand why everyone undervalues him, statistically he is the best in the world.

eddiethegreat said...

anonymous im pretty curious how did you come out with such an exact number :)

anyway, we all know he is a goalmachine, nevertheless, he isnt exactly the youngest one out there and mainly his contract will expire the next year and such players are never sold for big money not to mention his huuuge wage demand which makes his unattainable for almost all clubs in the world (so if we are really selling him we cant ask really a lot for him..).

WTF??!!! Watz wrong with you guys? dont u c what Eto'o is trying to do? He wantz 10mil and to play in the CL now the aint no club thatz gonna pay him so much money thatz un the CL! Now what are our options? If ever we wanna cash in on da guy we are gonna hav to giv him wat he wants otherwise he could easily go to a club for free... Dis is not good to say but I tink we just have to give the guy his 10mil if we wanna get the 30-40mil hes worth.

Kxevin said...

It's a very difficult situation. Eto'o could make the move, and build in the "Robinho clause," in which he has a default in case the side doesn't make Champions League.

It's a lot of money. 35m for a guy in the last year of his contract is absurd. Citeh is also overpaying, but they're using cash to facilitate the deal, hence the stratospheric salary and transfer fee for a guy who might be a relative bust.

Team stability is important, to be true. We tried to sign Eto'o during the season, if you will all recall, and he said that he wanted to wait until the season had ended, because negotiations would be a distraction. Now that it is negotiation time, he shows precious little inclination to do anything except demand crazy wages. Is Eto'o worth more than Xavi? Iniesta? Good question. At his proposed pay rate, he would be.

I know this. The club has to improve. Besides, its core will be intact, so it will be stable, even if Eto'o is sold, because the only other starter who might be leaving is Valdes, unless he comes to his senses.

This is far and away the best offer that we are going to get for Eto'o.

Aussie Barca Fan said...

For a team in mid table England they would have no choice but to offer a stupid amount of money for Eto'o to turn his head. This is natural. You can't blame Eto'o for turniing his head at that kind of money. Anyone would if you were offered that kind of money. He has won everything at Barca.

Perhaps it is time for him to move on and go out to grazing in the rich pastures of England. Barca will also get a great fee for a player in the last year of his contract.

Eto'o I wish you well if you take the money and run. You have served our club with much admiration.

Iason said...

I think nobody can even afford Ibra and Perez has said that David Villa will sign for Madrid very soon so we have to keep Eto'o now. Not that it's a problem but thats just an example that Barca are to slow in the transfer Market. Now get Zirkhov for Pep G's sake!

All this talk of transfers is giving me a headache. All players with pending contract renewals should get their extentions and Barcelona should look into the prospect of reinforcing the team to renew vigor. The battle has just gone uphill and the race to the title next season would be a battle. Players have to put double the effort to win and they need suitable replacements, a team is as good as its bench. Come August the 31st FC Barcelona would be the team to beat and every team would want a piece of them. With more titles to engage in the future, we need all the help we can get so I believe the folks in suits has to stop talking and start acting because the tide is high and folks keep looking around.
We need to start bringing in players now! so this players can begin to settle before the voyage of next season begins starting with friendlies and the European Super Cup.
