Agent Toure sets deadline for renewal

Asked about the contract renewal of Barcelona defensive midfielder and Ivorian international Yaya Touré (26) (read more here), the player's agent Dmitri Seluk has said in an interview with Catalan radio station RAC 1 that a deal has to be signed in the coming week:

"If we don't sign a new contract at the beginning of the coming week, we won't sign anything.

Or Touré signs, or he doesn't sign, but we want things to be clear soon. We won't wait. We are claiming what we have been promised when we signed. We're not asking more money, we only ask what has been agreed upon when we came to Barça two years ago. Not one euro more."

Touré is not being loyal to the club, he's greedy, better sell him!

Not. Give the guy what he deserves. The club is making a mess of the renewals...

groga are you ok? :)

dont balme him. IF and only IF his last statement is true that they are not asking more money, but only what was promises 2 years a go, then they have all rights to cry and do whatever. This is strictly business, what happens if we dont fulfill our promise till the transfer gate closes? They have a right to look else where, after all its all about the money now, he has won it all in spain. Thus he can hide under same umbrella as CR9 and say " I want a new challenge".

Independent from this case (of course he should get a serious rise) I have the impression that our wage structure is become quite heavy.

I actually think that several of our players are over paid (if they were already offering Valdes 6-7 million...) and that harms the club in the long-run.

But I agree that it's difficult to manage all this. The problem is that players always ask more when they (or the team) play well but won't accept to earn les when they don't.

agree with you fcbee. now I can imagine that players like Caceres, Bojan, Hleb, Keita..etc are paid 4 to 5 at least.
by the way I think you will like next season 3rd kit. what an abysmal year for our jersey.

why are all the barca agents wankers? i know agents by definition are slimy gits but valdes agent amd this guy just have bad attitudes, yes we should pay them what they deserve but, if i was on the board, the attitude of the agents would make me think go to hell!

I agree with fcbee. If the wage structure is changed to accomodate a few players then all hell will break lose with future contract dealings. That can not only harm the club finances but also the watching spectators as ticket prices will have to change to compensate the losses incurred.

That's not to say that some of these players do need their just rewards as promised by the club.

And what about future transfers? We'll only get 2nd or even 3rd rate players to "strenghten" the team in the future.

Why don't the management offer these players contracts that're based on performance? But then again I'm sure they've already done that as was stated by Toure's agent. I don't know but I think it's all business politics playing out here on both sides.

Let's hope that for every player that barca signs on and or renew their contract has some big payout clause so that in future barca has more control when players and agents hold them to a ransom by telling other clubs are interested.

if they are not asking for one more euro, then what is it that they seek than playing regularly, that he has achieved this season?guys it seems this agent is a lier.but i think toure should also not be the least paid in the barcelona first team squad,he is very usefull as we all know.

I wish toure would stay but the idea of getting macherano becomes more and more appealing everyday...not sure who i would want more...

Looks like an issue of broken promises here.

If we promised Yaya that he would be given a raise, then the right thing to do is to give him a raise.

Those of you calling Yaya or his agent greedy please remember that the club promised, so they are holding the club to deliver on that.

Yaya Toure is anyhting but selfish given his services to the club this year and last year.

Integrity and keeping your word is part of being more than just a club.

You might be right but then all that I've read so far is quote from the agent about the promise. What we have not heard about is the amount owed or asked other than he ants to be in the same bracket as Xavi, Iniesta. I'm sure if he is a loyal team player as is Xavi and Iniesta, I doubt the management have second thought about giving him that. Both these players have won 2 CL with us along with other league titles and cups. Toure has 1 each after only 2 years with us. The big question is if Barca were to falter after this will he still give his all to ensure the next glory days.

To me if he is sincere, please take what is offered for now and then ask for araise again next season and the season after that. Make sure to include that in balack and white,. No more gentleman promises.

if Barca board really promised, then they should keep the promise. But havent they sign sumfing to prove?

You guys are so gullible. Barcelona didn't promise anything except a raise. This guy is obviously just making up numbers.

Think about it logically. Why would Barcelona promise such a huge raise to a guy who was a no name, non-guaranteed starter, and only a 9 million transfer? And we're not talking about a small raise, we're talking about one so big that they aren't even willing to meet even though he's become a star and undisputed in the first XI.

Let's put some numbers into it. My guess is Barcelona is offering 4-5 + incentives, his agent wants 6. Does it make sense for Barcelona to have promised 6 million per year 2 years ago and then only offer him 1.5-2 million per year? Would Barcelona have promised 6 million 2 years ago when Xavi & Iniesta were making 5 million per year? That wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. Now he sees Xavi & Iniesta get raises, and us winning the treble, the promise of 3-5 million isn't good enough all of a sudden.

This is just standard agent talk. What if the reverse happened. What if he promised to sign a 3 million dollar a year contract after 2 years. But now we've won the treble, and everyone's wages have gone up. Do you think his agent would keep the promise and stick to the 3 million a year contract? Of course not, he would try to get what Yaya's actually worth in the new market.

So the idea of a 'promise' is completely stupid, if they promised then they would have signed a contract, or a pre-contract agreement. Otherwise you can make up anything. I can say Barcelona promised to give me 9 million a year, doesn't make it true.

I agree with anonymous and most of the people on this board. All I know is that if we do not keep Toure and keep him happy, he could leave. If that happens, we won't win anything for a long, long time. Players like Toure are underrated and underappreciated. Their value to the team is never fully realized because they play the "defensive" midfield role. Keeping him is a must and I'm sure that Pep, Txiki, and Laporta realize this. So, let's just wait and see what happens. I'm sure they are working on things right now and will take care of it soon enough.
