Transfer Ibrahimovic not linked to transfer Eto'o

At a local town meeting in Catalonia, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has unconfirmedly told journalists that the transfer of Inter Milan forward and Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic (27) isn't necessarily linked with the exit of Barcelona player Samuel Eto'o although at this moment the option that Eto'o is not part of the deal is not being considered:

"The negotiations on the transfer of Ibrahimovic are going well. Ibrahimovic was from the start one of the options for our technical department. I think finding a deal on this transfer can be a perfect solution that would satisfy all parties involved.

It can solve the situation of certain players. Situations that need to be solved, because the technical staff wants it, which is basic, and because we solve a possible conflict situation that could arise if we wouldn't reach an agreement, in that sense that we need to sign another centre forward and that would force others to leave.

Eto'o is the best centre forward in the world and he can join one of the best clubs in the world, with a coach who already talked with him and who is delighted to have him in his squad and with a president, Massimo Moratti, who is enthusiastic about signing him. He can join a club where he will be respected and where he'll sure feel good."

"Eto'o is the best centre forward in the world"

Mr. Laporta, if he's the best, why dont we just keep him??

45 mill+Eto'o+Hleb is way too much for him.

not taking the "meeting" seriuosly, but this quote is very patronising.

whtever but its clear if u look ... etoo is leaving !!!!!!
thks for all ur goal and 4 cmg to barca!!!

i'm not surprised by his statement, he's been saying eto is the best since the transfer market opened.

i don't get the first paragraph though, is he saying he will sign zlatan for 45 mil and helb on loan then sell eto to inter for what price i don't know so it would seem that he's isn't over paying and at the same time making eto feel much better about the deal??

If Ibracadabra comes to Barca, we will have dream team. Against Real, Guardiola can nominate only 10 players for game, and eleventh player coud be some child, women or some older man hehehehe, some person who has a lucky number of ticket

Hi,
Does this mean that the 45 millions are just for Ibra + Hleb?
Whatever it is, I don't get why Ibra would cost more than Eto'o, can someone clarify?

@bosnian likes barca...the last thing we can do is to underestimate Madrid...I'm sure that next game against them is very close one but we still win :)

Its simple, the board and coaches want etoo out of the club for their own reasons, mayb his behavior was erratic (you never know what really happens behind those dressing rooms).

Regardless, of whether he has done good yet GREAT in barca they want him out. That doesnt mean they are being disrespectful, mayb they just think its time he moves on.

It might also be n image thing, since Ibra is NIKE and Etoo is PUMA..You never know..After the dust settles and both players sign there contracts, then we will know what happened.

SO PLEASE!!!! PLEASE STOP WITH THIS ETO CRAP THAT HE IS MONEY HUNGRY OR THAT HE ISNT LOYAL, OR THAT BARCA BOARD R BEING DISRESPECTFULL TO ETOO..JUST LETS WAIT AND SEE GUYS PLEASE

@E
We don't just keep 'E'to'o because he's not renewing his contract, he's not in the MANAGER'S plans and none is more than the club... You don't want Barca to lose 20 million on Eto'o if you were really a Cule. No more Eto'o sympathizers please. The fact that Laporta is ready to get the deal done even without involving Eto'o shows how much THE SO-CALLED BEST CENTER FORWARD is ready to fuck up with the cules. Get ready to pack your bags to Milan(Inter Milan and not free-agent to AC Milan) or face the wrath of the cules Eto'o. This move should either make or break his future, nothing like he remains with Barca and scores numerous tap-ins which are the fruits due to the efforts of the likes of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta who are BTW true BARCELONISTAS and their career is not revolved around their hatred for Madrid unlike certain Malaga-lifetime's. Now don't even start on how Eto'o has numerous other solo-effort goals and scored in both champions league finals. After all he's playing for the best club in the world! I can give you an example. He could have just passed on to Henry in semi finals first leg at camp nou and it would have been an open goal for Henry, not once but twice... But it's the BEST center forward for you, who would prefer to score instead of giving an assist. We could have lost to Chelsea, damn it!!! Okay now even Messi has 100% record in Champions League finals, shall we make him our center forward? I'm not saying Eto'o is not good, all I'm saying is he's no saint. ENOUGH with the Eto'o saga, PLEASE

A contract should be respected unless the two parties find an agreement to end it. Stop all the emotional crap.

If Barça (including a part of the fans) would have treated Eto'o with some more respect over the past years, things would have looked differently.

@groga
I don't blame Eto'o for being true to the contract that he has signed. I accept it's just a 'professional' acting in a very 'professional' way and not involving in any kind of 'emotion' with the fans. But what I'm not able to digest is he fact that some of the TRUE CULES are unable to get over Eto'o and not being totally 'professional!'
Come on guys it's just that our board is involved in a business obligation with a very great "professional" with the name of Samuel Eto'o!! Just stop being emotional and please don't drag a true "professional" into an emotional trap called 'LOYALTY'

In a perfect world our frontline would be

Zlatan - Etoo - Messi

Could you imagine how many goals we would get? Zlatan is more of a creative foward and he can take over henry's role and create even more for etoo than henry did. However it isnt a perfect world and etoo's time at the camp nou appears to be at an end. So I welcome zlatan if he comes and i thank etoo for the 2 champions league titles and 3 league titles. He is a Barca legend and he will be missed.

I'm wondering if Pep is going to experiment with Zlatan on the left. Obviously, Henry could very well play the CF position, too.

They're still looking for a left winger. It's clear Henry will see more bench next season.

Laporta is sweating his *** to sell Eto. keep it going mate. hope Zlatan comes to Barca. am just getting too obsessed wit his vids and wat all hhe is capable of doing! man, he's up there in the best ever league!

What a stupid move by Barca.
Ibrahimović maybe is a better player, but the question is is he a better player FOR Barca. He is completely different player from Eto'o. He keeps the ball way to much and Guardiola will have to get that out of his head. But, if you take that away from him he is not the same player. Secondly, he can't play on wing, so there will be no more rotation in that attacking trio that worked so well last season.

HALA ETO'O !!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you for everything man, they will see they are making a mistake

Plus, ibrahimovic will surely have a hard time adjusting to the fact that the team no more evolves around him. In Inter he is a God, and Im sure he expects the same here. He's a big egomaniac, that's why this wont work well.

barca4life said...

Lol, how do you know zlatan can perform the henry role? Is henry a left winger? no, he is more of a 2nd striker that drifts between the left flank and a more central role. Zlatan's creativity makes him perfect for such a role.

As for zlatan's style, pep has asked for a big tall strong CF. That is why we were linked with Adebayor Mario gomez Berbatov Llorente and Guiza last off season. It didnt work out so we kept etoo but guardiola has always wanted a big tall strong CF who can be a "busbreaker" against teams like chelsea.

Finally zlatan may have been the best talent at inter but if i remember correctly he made his name at juve where he had trezeguet and Del Pierro Nedved and Cameronesi all around him. So to say he wont do will have a hard time adjusting to a team that does not revolve around him is is just grasping at straws.

Finally one thing barca has not done particularly well last season was shoot from distance. Against teams that park the bus a long range shot could be crucial as well as set pieces. Zlatan brings both good free-kicks and great long range shooting. And can you imagine how many goals he could get with messi henry xavi iniesta maxwell and dani alves all providing service?

The fact that Ono Use the Word Hala instead Visca just deserves to be ignored.

very true marc4barca, no HALA's over here!

John-Reid said...

Hey. I know I must sound ridiculous, but I'm an American Barca fan with little knowledge of the language. Does "Visca" mean something like "long live" for Barcelona? And does "Hala" mean the same thing for Madrid? Please don't crucify me for not knowing this and being an American fan of football. I really do love Barca.

Anyway, Zlatan is perfect to replace Eto'o who has long been a pain for Barca. Eto'o is solid, but he is no great. Just look at the goals he scored this season; there were probably only 3 that were above average. All the rest of his goals were created by much better players than him like Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Alves. Any mid-level striker could have scored the majority of goals he scored this season. Additionally, Eto'o can't pass to save his life; he constantly breaks up Barca's rhythm. And the misses this season, so many to chose from, but just watch the last three games and you'll get the idea. He was very good at positioning, I'll give him that, but that's not enough to play at Barca's level. Eto'o is good, but Pep, Messi and the rest deserve better. I don't hate Eto'o, he has done much for the club and his goal in the final was great, but that is not worth his bad attitude, bad playing and high paycheck. Eto'o, please leave with honor and the knowledge that you truly helped the club. Thanks, but like Deco, it's just time for you to go.

Ibra can create his own chances AND provide for others. Plus, he plays the attractive football all Barca fans love. What's more, he is a giant. He can head the ball. Enough said. I don't know if he will be a success at Barca, but with the rest of the team's perfect passes, he can't be worse than Eto'o.

Marc4barca said...

Visca mean come on, it's not a Spanish word but rather a Catalonian word.

visca Barcelona - come on barcelona

hala also means come on which is the correct version(the spanish version)

hala Madrid - come on real madrid

the main reason barca don't use hala cause it's a spanish word and barcelona is a catalonian team who separate themselves from Spain and pride themselves a single nation just like atletico bilboa who call themselves basque i think., hence why they boo the king of Spain. the rivalry just fuels it more.

patronising like how? laporta has consistently said eto'o is the best CF in the world.
we cant keep him cos we have a new project and he doesnt fit in, we need some other qualities to improve the team.

NouBarca said...

Xaviniesta, you want the "best striker" out cos you want the "non best striker?" It is very patronising. Dont act like you dont know. Or doest it mean we dont need the "best qualities" cos you said we need other qualities to improve the team

hey2.. Marc4barca i just want to ask, does Amunt stand for the same "come on"? cuz Amunt is the word that is used by Valencia supporters, they say, amunt valencia.
so what does amunt mean?

Aussie Barca Fan said...

Patronising, condescending, flippant or genious. Call it what you will. It is completely obvious that Laporta, Pep and the management team want Eto'o out. For whatever reasons they are pushing him out the exit door and...fast.

I think Eto'o has the message loud and clear. If he stays, he wont be the first or second choice striker.

Ibra it seems will be coming and I just hope this is over with soon. It is becoming increasingly booring.

Nope, he was awful in jubentus, part of it because he didn't play in his natural position, there was a lot of rotations. Same thing he can expect here
