Quote of the day: Edmilson

I wouldn't change Eto'o for anyone. I am very surprised about what's happening, because he's the best striker in the world. He scores, has speed, presence in the goal area, a player who fights with the defenders. He was an excellent team-mate, who motivated the others.

Edmílson, former Barcelona player

Adding:

- For me, Samuel is worth much more than for example Cristiano Ronaldo, because of what he does on the pitch and for his winning mentality.

- He has his own character, like myself and everyone else. In a dressing-room, everyone has a different character. Samuel has shown his character on the pitch over those five years. When he goes out on a pitch, he runs and fights.

barca4life said...

Why doesnt he tell us who the black sheep in the dressing room is? Shut the hell up Edmilson, you always talked too much.

slovan said...

What Edmilson says is so true. Eto'o is a club legend who has given us so much and bleeds for the jersey. His fighting will be sorely missed for us.

I guess Edmilson is still bitter!

VivaBarca said...

Eto was and will always be a true barca legend, but PEP has a point about adding fresh blood in the squad, we dont wanna make the same mistake like we did after ´06 CL victory??

Ronaldinho was the black sheep.

who will sign him for 12 m euro.even we can't afford him that much salary.now everyone should understand why barca is desperate to sell him

VivaBarca: Getting rid of a world class fighting lion for a bag of chips and replacing him with lazy Zlatan for 50m is not the way to do business. Supporting such incredibly bad deals for our club is beyond me.

barca4life said...

We should keep the lion and let him go for free in 1 year's time right slovan?

slovan said...

We already value him at close to zero anyway. He means nothing for the board and Pep anymore. The way we have put ourselves in this position is just incredible. He was our Stoichkov. Not a La Masia product but a person who bled for our jersey in an inspiring way for the rest of the players. What a shame the way we value such a player.

clearly if eto was so great on the field then there must be something in the dressing room we don't know about so stop bashing barcelona on every topic slovan. barca has done this before and so has other clubs not everyone can be pleased, be the barca fan you are and just accept it instead of complaining all the time. if your willing to forget everything good about a barcelona and focus on the bad then your no different than those madristas.

koko=barca said...

Eto'o gave us a lot. We can not forget that. But for me Ibrahimovic is a technically superb player and very good at holding the ball in his legs. Eto'o lacks that. Let's all hope he will do good at barca and help us win some important trophy's

slovan said...

Supporting our bad decisions who hurt our club is not something for me. Stop with the childish remarks towards others with a different opinion.

A club legend is about to be thrown out of the club in the most humiliating way. For nothing. Many people are pissed off because of it. It is such a shame. It hurts our club badly, just to please the ego of certain people in our club.

A2J said...

Slovan and others.......PLEASE, How is eto a barca Legend? you guys gonna understand meaning of words b4 using them, Eto is no barca legend.

Marc4barca said...

slovan you say many people are pissed about it but many more don't care cause they want zlatan. if you haven't noticed yet eto is not popular in barcelona. what you are doing is blindly bashing a club cause a player you like is leaving, pep said eto should leave, he is the manager and he makes the decision if you hate barcelona because they are doing what they think is right and not what insignificant people like you think then you should go to madrid where the fans demand everything and madrid obey.

A2J eto is a legend and when the seasons starts his picture will appear in legends on barcelona site. ronaldo who was only at the club for one season and didn't win la liga or CL became a legend same goes for romario and maradona, not at the club long but was essential, romario has a la liga crown though cause he was one of the main men behind barca's fourth straight la liga crown in the dream team. eto is barcelona's 3rd highest scorer and was apart of a treble winning squad, he is definitely a legend.

slovan said...

What you are doing is supporting bad decisions that hurt our club, Marc4Barca. Calling other who speak up against it for madridistas who hate Barcelona won't win anyone over. It is just childish, rude name-calling which shouldn't belong to a civilized debate.

Eto'o needs no presentation A2J. He has the best goal scoring stats for us since Kubala in the 1950s. His dedication for our team speaks for itself.

Marc4barca said...

you simply can't call it a bad decision until it has been proven, zlatan has not played a match yet so you cannot call it a bad decision. no one is worth their price tag until they play because even if you pay like 3mil for a player and he does nothing for you it's like wasting 3 mil. the only way you can call this a bad decision is if barcelona fail to win anything this season. you have to admit your admiration for eto is getting in the way of your judgment and your thinking towards barcelona.

slovan said...

Getting rid of a club legend for so little who is world class and has given us so much, is bad business no matter how you frame it. We tried to get rid of him last summer too, in the meantime Eto'o gave us 36 goals and he led us to three titles, including the decisive goal in the CL final. Not much more Eto'o could do to prove his doubters wrong.

We will see what Zlatan does, but such ridiculous fees for such a player and such ungrateful ways we depart with a club legend is really hurting our image as a club, and certain members of the board and Pep is to blame. The whole football world is surprised by us getting rid of our most successful striker in decades in such a way after having had such a fantastic season, and quite frankly, so am I.

Marc4barca said...

whatever you say, i think barcelona are doing what's right and there is more to it than just wanting someone new, there is something about eto the board doesn't like and he is gone so get over it and let let's be clear it was messi who lead us to glory this season eto played a huge role but wasn't a leader and if the same was happening to messi i would feel the same way cause every club loses someone great it's the ability to bounce back that makes huge clubs so great. there is a motto all clubs go by even small ones "we are nothing without the 12th man" this is team sport and barca won't fall cause eto left, the best we can do is support our next striker and make him feel comfortable in barcelona.

slovan said...

I can not support that the ego of certain members of our board and Pep goes before our club. I will give Zlatan a chance at our club, and it will surprise me if our team becomes better next season with Zlatan than our fantastic team last season with Eto'o leading the attack. We will see.

Someone Somewhere said...

Ahhhh Etoo wasn't leading the attack, Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta were...Etoo was getting the ball fed to him on a silver plate and only managed to make 1 out of 4 chances. that's not a very impressive percentage for someone that was single marked while others were double marked, triple marked, and pressed all the time.

Anonymous said...

I do not know what is wrong with his character because fellow players seem to love Eto'o. Xavi, Puyol, Messi and others have praised him in the media.

louis said...

it's unbelievable how everyone neglects eto'o to give all the credit to messi, xavi and iniesta. after the cl final, everyone - including pep - talked about messi and that he's the best, but who scored the most decisive goal? and also the much more brillant goal, beating one of the world's best defenders?

it really is a shame how people talk about a legend - yeah, i totally agree with slovan - like him after five years in which he gave us 25-30 goals in every season he wasn't injured plus two cl trophies as if "yeah, he was good, but someone else will score his goals for us" ... we'll see what ibrahimovic can do but talking in such a way is not just dumb and naive but also incredibly disrespectful

tero said...

I agree, louis. When time goes by and these transfer rumours settle for a moment, people start to remember Eto'o from his goals and commitment over the years and not money issues.Lets see what Ibra brings us,there's nothing else to do,right?

sashi said...

hey just understand Eto was not orn chasing the all always... Barca's game plan made him tat way. Pep would demand the same from Zlatan and he would also give us his best.

everyone agrees that Eto is a legend nd we all value wat he has given to the club. but there's always a time when disagreements start between the club and the player and tats the time when we need to say "bye, thanx for everything" and sell the player. Eto sorta disintegrated at the end of the league games. Pep knows wat he is doing. had Eto wanted to be with Barca, he wouldn't ask soo much money. he would understand that the club wants Messi to be the highest earned player and agree to wat the board offers. the board cant nod their head just because Eto values himself so high. WE JUST CANT AFFORD HIM ANYMORE.

anyway thanx Eto for everything. hope Zlatan proveshis worth to al these fans who think Eto is irreversible.

zealot said...

@anony, you are so right. Messi and Xavi are among Eto'o's current teammates, who praised his presence in the dressing room. And we have some people here saying Eto'o is the black sheep in our dressing room. Acting like they were also sharing the same dressing room with them, c'mooon.

I tell you anti-Etoo the fact that Xavi criticized Ronnie for his antics early in the season. Dig Goal.com archives if you want proof. Ronnie WAS the black sheep. On the other hand, he never said such negative remarks on Eto'o.

Xaviniesta said...

yeah, i remember back in the days his tenacity on the pitch never failed to amaze me. that was eto'o at his best. he was doing everything - scoring, defending, getting in the thick of things, basically stamping his presence all over. as a barca fan i'd choose to remember that, not the difficulties that came later.

NouBarca said...

No matter waht you say, as far as people are concerned, Eto is/was a cancer. I chose to remember teh good things he offered and 4get the negatives, just like I would chose to forget the signings of caceras, Hleb. just cos we love Barca dont mean we have to support the few "wrong decisions" lets be fair and put ourselves in etos position. R10 was a worse team mate if you ask most Barca players, yet he didnt get slated so much. But lets just end this talk and move on and I wish all parties all the best.

My love is for Barca

we cant afford eto sashi?are you crazy?or your math are bad?

even if eto asked for 12mil per year and a 5 year contract it would cost us 60mil.

with zlatan now its 45 for the transfer+ 5x9 total 90mil. keeping eto for the next 5 years would save us 30mil at least if we didnt sell him after 2-3 years........

eto is a legend.... i hate blind fans that agree always with the board, why cant you wait for next year to judge the move?i know that last year the board and pep were wrong wanting eto out(you simply cant disagree with this one)

i think we will do great this year with zlatan too,but not as good as we would have done with eto.its not easy for your striker to get used to the football we play,so i bet zlatan wont be a goal machine the first 5-15 matches.i think he will need time to fit in and that will cost us.i hope i will be wrong but time will tell.lets hope the board and pep isnt wrong on this one

Last season when we sold Deco, one of our most decisive players in midfield at the time, everyone said "he will be very missed", but what happened? We won the treble with a more balanced midfield than ever. During the Deco era, some were even saying that Xavi and Iniesta shouldn't be played simultaneously. Instead, with Deco gone, they exceled and went on having their best season ever.

I'm convinced that Ibra can bring a lot to Barca. I know he's an asshole, but so was Stoichkov and so is Alves (ayone remember hating him when we were playing Sevilla?). And about being lazy- Henry has never run as much as under Pep, and i'm sure Ibra can learn a few things here as well...

I'm not bashing Deco (or Eto'o for that matter), but I think there's a reason why Eto'o is unwanted, just like there was a reason behind Deco's and Ronnie's departure. AND those two were professional enough to LEAVE when they heard they weren't wanted...

Tareq said...

I think the main issue here is not Eto's departure, it is Pep's leadership.

When managing, the most difficult aspect is dealing with people. The way that Pep voiced his opinion directly and bluntly is something that I really admire.

Whether the decision stands to be right or wrong, time will tell, but the most important thing is Pep's approach. While Laporta, in his celebrity crazed mode, was pathetically schizophrenic towards Eto, our coach with his now proud bald head, sat down and made a bold decision.

I love that.

All his teammates have said he is an examplerary guy in the locker room. Edmilson just confirmed that. As a Barca fan i do not like the way the the best striker to don a Barca shirt in decades has been treated. Eto all the best u will remain one of the best Barca legends ever. Let us see what Ibra will do after u.
