Guardiola's statements about Eto'o convinced you?

Two journalists of Madrid sports tabloid As commented on Guardiola's decision to let Samuel Eto'o leave.

Paco: Yes
What I cannot understand is what Laporta did, paying 50 millions plus Eto'o and the loan of Hleb. But the exit of Eto'o doesn't surprise me, it's something we all saw coming. Guardiola already tried to throw him out last season, but they didn't find a buyer with a serious offer. We can discuss if Guardiola makes a mistake by letting go the goalscorer of the Barça's last two Champions league finals, but when the reasons are personal, outsiders should only listen. One of the obligations of a group leader is to remove someone who he thinks could cause conflicts.

Lama: No
It seems poor that a coach puts his feelings and emotions above the interests of a club. Guardiola needs to know that Barça is the most important thing and not the fact of him has a good feeling about Eto'o or not. What if Barcelona's next coach has a good feeling about Eto'o? It's incomprehensible that that a coach puts his own personal interests above those of the club. With this gesture, Guardiola has shown that the "bad coach" virus already caught him: to think that football turns around him.

This i think sums it all up.
Pep gave us the treble and it is he who did whatever that was needed to be done last season.
We shouldn complain abt his decisions with some preconceptions of this notion.
In Pep we Trust !

Whatever happens, it will be unfair to Zlatan..

It's almost impossible to do the same thing we did last year.. We'll probably(!) have to push harder for the league with a stronger RM.

And the only difference will probably be zlatan-eto'o.. So everyone will look at him.

Ok, pep has managed the team truely in a divine way, but still..its the players that do the work.

It's going to be a tough season!

some internet fans love to complain about everything, two weeks ago bringing Villa was a bad move, now they want VIlla the best striker ever because we are getting someone else, nontheless Ibracadabara the man who will bring the end to the madridista hahaha.

haven't you thought that there are other possibilities? that Ibrahimovic is going to make this team even better?

as usual bullshit from madrid agent as.com.get over it guys.

well, we cant better last season. Eto has been there done that. he can leave, close the door gently with his head head up high.
The two guys have just said what he have been saying here. Some thinks its best to kick him out, some think its bad to kick him out.

everyone says pep gave us a tremble....eto gave us a tremble too and a cl + too.also the board gave us a tremble too it was a unite efford, dont take credit away from people....

peps excuse of ditching eto is bad,and when i say bad i mean really bad,he seems to me like a shield of the board right now incapable of speaking his mind.if he doesnt want eto he should say why or else it seems like it was the board decision "again"...

offcourse the coach should have the final saying, but is it his saying?and is the 50mil + eto deal a good for the club in long term?we cant say right now,we will see only time can tell.

As will be always there to destabilize us.5 clubs own treble in the history of european footblall.and none of them were able to repeat it next season.even if we win either spanish league or UCL i will pretty happy with our achievement.

Guardiola has now what he wanted from the very minute he took over. I hope he proves to be right. Doing better than last season, will be almost impossible, but we should at least win the Liga (if Madrid doesn't win the CL) or the CL.

If we fail, this will badly reflect on the club. We, as fans, aren't for one not able anymore to feel proud that our club doesn't engage in mad money transfers. We have become a little les unique.

now someone is bringing extravagant figure to support his argument.it was eto'o+ 45 m euro.where on earth you bring 5 m euro to support your argument?

i think we wont buy any midfielder this season.if hleb eaves guddy will stay.thago will be promoted same as gai assulin.we will buy a CB,most probably bruno alves

I think you should let guardiola do his job. He is the one who is with all the players everyday. He is the one that sees them in training. Eto'o is a good striker, but this year he will miss two months because of the African cup; who knows he might get injured also. And his contract is finishing next year and he didn't want to renew, so its better if he leaves. Barca Knows what they are doing. Have Trust in them. Plus we have Henry, Bojan, Messi, kerrisson and Pique :) who can play upfront. Ibra has good physique, height, technique and skills. i believe he also can play on the right side and henry or bojan moves upfront. please ppl believe in Tixxi, Laporta and Pep. VIVA BARCAA

@Lama Guardiola grew up in La Masia, He's Barca man. He'll always put club interests on the first place, that's just who he is! If he thinks that leaving of Eto'o will be best for the team I belevie him!

bob said...

if ibra joins us we just need a CB now.marquez is still not fully fit and puyol is also injury prone.henruque is good but he is not proven in la liga yet.we need a tall cb.that's it for this summer.

i think guardiola is rite bout sellin eto nd his feelings r rite he said he learned that when he was a player in barcelona that they should change thingss every season espicially clubs that win should change things so im wit guardiola go barca!!

NouBarca in thoery, no, we CAN and are ABLE to be better, we can secure all six trophies this time, and records are there to be broken, most of our CL competitors are the same if not weaker this year, Manchester, Chelsea, Inter, Arsenal..even if Ibra flop we still have so many players to compensate. everybody remember the Eto'o goals in the CL but they forget the work others put through the long season, Eto'o didn't score against Chelsea and was anonymous, he didn't score too against Madrid in the 6-2 demolition and missed a pen. in the first game, against Valencia, Villareal, his goal against Bayern was easy one on one. against Lyon he wasn't there too to influence the game, again I am not saying he is bad, but I am saying that he is definitely replacable, because at the end of the day he is not Messi, and even if he was, we rely on the team. by the way Barca has always bought players with high prices, because we are a team that buy players not a seller, newer fans may not this, but in the 90s our philosophy was to gather star players.

I'm sure Guardiola is right because he puts the formarion of the team he choses the players so it his desicion lets support that. Visca el Barca.

there is a rumorin barcelona that eto'o had heated argument with with pep in a training session.since then he has the feelings either eto'o stay and I quit or vice versa

I am surprised at you all.You are analysing Pep's words out of context. He said 'Teams that win things need to change things'.The whole world watches Barca more than any other team in the world. If we go into the season the same way,we will be too predictable.
Eto'o is good but Ibrahimovic is up there with the finest.
He will add another dimension to our attack,Aerial threat;utilising all those crosses better, long range shots, utilising our free kicks better, wasted on numerous occassions last term, can hold the ball up in attack ,can create loads of assists for others, can defend exceptionally well as well.
Don't tell me you don't know that Maxwell is the new left back,he would give us what Alves gives us on the right so we will be less predictable. While abidal joins the battle for a place in centre Back.
Pep has improved the squad and if last seaon was fantastic, this season would be a carnival.
Ibracadabra does not only score the tap-in's he does the audacious.
Believe me within a year he will be contesting for the Ballon d'or.
If you don't believe me go to youtube to see some of his videos.
I write it without a doubt in my heart,he his the best striker in the world and having him in our squad would make us better, even Ronald Koeman said that.
At Inter he single handedly won the Scudetto 3 times in a row for them, imagine what would happen in a team like Barca where all ten outfield players are exceptional.

i am confused should i buy messi 10 shirt or ibra 9 shirt for this season :)

skanjos: almost all those people you named were there the year before last year and wi didn't win shit back then..

you have to admit the first XI didn't change much, the board changed ok, but it seems the important positions stayed the same. so indeed the biggest difference was the coach, hence everyone saying HE brought us the treble..

not saying eto'o not being injured didn't help, but you have to admit the biggest difference between our trofy-less seasons and the treble season was Pep..

suvash said...

juve is also anxiously waiting for eto'o exit, they will step up chase for caceras as soon as we reach a deal with ibra.every is praying eto'o leaves smoothly.don't disappoint us 'african lion' lol

I'm sick and tired of all the "In Pep we trust". OK, he did a very good job last season but I think he's getting overconfident. Pep wanted to let Eto'o go already last season - would we still have won the treble without Eto'o? We will never know, but what we know is that we won it with Eto'o.

lol "in pep we trust" is borrowed from fcb fans living in uk."in arsene" we trust is most popular slogan in epl

Zeni Pep wanted Eto'o to be gone but he kept him for 2 reasons:
1. was very good in the pre-season
2. there was no good striker available because there teams wanted alot of money. ex. Adebayor/berbatov.

We would have won the treble without Eto'o if we had an excellent striker that can finish the attack.

Hopefully eto'o will sign for inter today.so his this chapter will be closed very soon.we wont forget him as a player but i wish we will stop moaning for him

bara4life said...

I trust pep 4 competitions were set for him in 2 years he won all 4. He got the B team promoted, and won the treble. If he feels its best for etoo to go, he must know why. He is not a madman. Ferguson got rid of beckham and stam, liverpool got rid of owen, Barcelona got rid of ronaldinho. Life goes on. romario came and went as did maradona figo rivaldo ronaldo and ronaldinho and the club is still here. I dont know why some people are making such a big deal of this. Wenger sold Anelka after his best season ever because he could tell what was going to happen. What happened? Anelka flopped at real madrid and became a wondering nomad. Trust Pep, he had a feeling to put yaya at CB in the champions league semi final and final and a feeling to play messi more central in the final. He had a feeling that pique would be great. So lets give the man some credit and a chance to do what we pay him to do. Run our team.

We'll see about that next season.

Anonymous u can't expect us to win the treble again when Real Madrid are way stronger than last year. Every year is diffrent.

barca4life said...

Lol, no team has won the CL back to back in over 20 years since before they changed the name to the CL. To assume we will win a treble again is exactly as the saying goes, making an ass out of u and me. Personally i wont mind if we lose la liga and win the Champions League in Madrid. That will be the ultimate insult. After that there would be nothing that real madrid could do. They would have to burn down the stadium and start over LOL.

"Anonymous u can't expect us to win the treble again when Real Madrid are way stronger than last year. Every year is diffrent."

Oh yeah, easy to say now... You, Eto'o bashers, are just ridiculous. if we win it with Eto'o, that's luck. If we don't win without him, that's because of the opponents. Poor people...

skanjos said...

real being stronger means teams will play differently against them too.also why do you care about real its 2 matches, also if we play in them in cl then 4 max.

you can blame only your team if you dont do well.

also m8 the other seasons we didnt have keita/dani alves/pique who helped alot this year also iniesta and messi evolved into way better players by the years, and for the last 2 years messi and eto had 2 serius injuries.why dont we sell messi too?he has been here as long as eto has.want change why not sell xavi or iniesta.dont give me that change crap.the reason the board wanted eto out was because he got injured 2 times and they thought he was finished (like they thought about r10 and deco).they were right about r10 and deco but not on eto. and since then the board and eto are at bad relationship ,its normal.

if we lose the tremble next year it means we will have worse team.the only team that was reinforced is madrid and they are gonna flop anyway(let the bad results start...they won with luck against an irish team....)

Ok I guess with Eto'o gone along with his alleged attitude, which according to Guardiola is personal to him, I guess we can start looking for a new frontman after 1 or 2 season of Ibra (which according to some peoples here his attitude is no better than Eto'o's). I don't like the back and forth between Laporta and Messales, so I guess before the ill feellings spreads to the dressing room, I guess it's the best for both sides.

barca4life said...

As Ferguson said, you need a huge amount of luck to win the champions league and given that etoo was anonymous for most of the semi-against chelsea and if the ref makes different calls we lose 2-1 at least its crazy to say that if we dont win it next season its cause we sold etoo.

Xaviniesta said...

this eto'o debate is kind of getting old. he's leaving, no use debating about it. and ok maybe he was treated bad, but he had his faults. and pls enough of saying one person won us the treble, its ridiculous. its the team not one person. as for whether pep's statements were proper, it doesnt matter. its been said, there's no taking it back. he was being honest and while i may not agree with some of the things he said, ultimately its not his job to say pretty things we all want to hear. his job is to put a team together, get them in shape for the competitions ahead.

Anonymous said...

i think eto'o had do leave because first ibra is bette than him and yes maybe eto'o scores goals but the goals he scores are goals that cannot be missed plus , he doesn't have the techniq that ibra has and eto'o is demanding a salary of 10 million that i think he doesn't deserve

IBRA IS THE BEST

mario ch said...

Keep Trust in pep, the team and every person involved. im sure they only want the best for the club and they won`t disappoint us.

Tareq said...

I think the main issue here is not Eto's departure, it is Pep's leadership.

When managing, the most difficult aspect is dealing with people. The way that Pep voiced his opinion directly and bluntly is something that I really admire.

Whether the decision stands to be right or wrong, time will tell, but the most important thing is Pep's approach. While Laporta, in his celebrity crazed mode, was pathetically schizophrenic towards Eto, our coach with his now proud bald head, sat down and made a bold decision.

I love that.

Anurag said...

Pep will hopefully be proved right. We are actually getting a pretty good deal on this transfer for the following reasons :

1. Ibra is a more technical player who can create chances for himself and wont be like a lost puppy when teams park the bus (read : Eto'o at Stamford Bridge)

2. IBRA CAN HEAD THE BALL!

3. If not sold this year, Eto'o will leave on a free next season. Also, since he is also going for the ACN, he will not be present for 2 months.

And the strongest point in favour of Ibra is that Pep wants him. I think you can trust a coach who has won all the trophies possible with the two clubs he managed (Barca B and Barca).

NouBarca said...

Hou much do you think we would get for Ibra after the 5 years? or would we offer him same wage with 2 years extension when he has 1 year left on his contract? remember he would be 32 then.

Anurag said...

kinda tough to make such a prediction, dont you think Nou?

Guardiola is a bad coach now? So winning the treble in his first year of professional coaching was a fluke?

I can understand statements like that from pro Madrid journalists but some people here claim to be cules and they hate Guardiola!! That I cannot fathom! He's an Icon as a player and a coach... i just don't understand how Etoo can be more important than barca!!
