Medical: Henry out with Achilles tendon injury

Barcelona's medical staff has announced that Barcelona player Thiery Henry (31) has problems with the Achilles tendons of both legs.

The poblems started a few days ago but got worse during the pre-season friendly game against Chivas Guadalajara yesterday.

Henry will certainly be out for the next days, which means he won't travel to France for the World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands on Wednesday. The evolution of the pain in his Achilles tendons will determine when he can return to action.

That's also why we need to get a decent left wing back-up. Or a midfield back-up so iniesta can move to the wing. I'm afraid Henry will be injured a lot. He just had the green light from his previous injury last week.

sounds like an excuse not to play the match with france .
fine by me :)

We need one more player, to cover for situations like this- especially as Iniesta is also a bit more injury prone... Either LW or CM...

The problem started a few days ago but serves as a perfect cop out and excuse for his absolutely dreadful performance during the pre-season friendly game against Chivas Guadalajara yesterday.

If you watched that game you'd have noticed that Titis killed every single one of our attacks in the first half. He falls down every play and not only when hes "injured". Seriously I dont know how this guy starts for us. Swap him for fabregas please.

Uhm I have 25 reasons why he starts for us. Including 2 in the classico and and absolutely crucial 1 against lyon in france.

I don't agree, he played quite well with Maxwell, I also think it is just an excuse not to play the riendly :D

Cesc is unrealistic but swap him for Arshavin and I will be totally confident for the upcoming season. He had a good year, but things will go down from now on. Injuries, age, he won't be able to keep it up to work as hard as last season.

25 goals as a left winger. Not bad. If he had played as striker he would have scored 35 last season. Not bad.

Henry is old, he'll gonna be a liability from now on. But he gets paid too much so he'll stay for two more years and then leave for free to retire in the US.

Ok maybe i was a little harsh, he's a good player but still not the best for us, his style is still pure BPL. Last season he had a couple good ones but also alot of tap ins, any player could have registered good numbers for us last season. i really do hate how hes a 6'2" beast and cant stay on his feet when being pressured from behind by a tiny mexican. Seriously though Maxwell played well, Henry didn't. And the chance he missed was the difference between a win and the draw. All im saying is that we can do better and probably should.

Last year we had good luck with injuries and in this year i think we will have some problems with most important players who will be injured ofter and longer. That's a reason for buying one more world class player in the middle, and one solid player in defence. If we can't sign Cesc, Arshavine would be also good alternative for 25 miilions + Eidur

i dont know how people can doubt Henry's ability he had a big part in the treble. Yes he is getting old and i think wwe need a good back-up. Its either Iniesta moving to the left wing and buying a midfielder or by a winger and keep Iniesta. the problem in DOn Andreas is that he is not a goal scorer.

so again. Why didn't we sell this guy and keep eto?

Anonymous said...

Because Eto'o didn't want to stay- or simply wanted more money than we wanted to give him...

SpenBarca said...

They won't give eto'o more money eventhough he deserves it, but they will give Ibra and increase messi's..

its not like Henry's wage bill was far off Eto's. Increasing Eto's salary and getting a cheaper (but better option then Henry) left winger would have been better business.

The mistake was made in 2007: then we bought the big star Henry for 25 millions instead of the promising youngster Ribery for 25 millions.

well said frett, the thing is we bought henry mainly as a center forward and a backup/replacement for eto'o. I guess nobody foresaw the dinho's decline but now we have a team that is thin on wingers. We still need a true replacement for ronaldinho(not hleb) and thats why its only now we want ribery. I dont think we will ever get him and thats fine, but we do need someone.
What do you guys think of jefferson farfan if we cant get mata or silva?

The ONLY reason Henry came to Barça was to win the CL . Now that he has done that I don't see any more incentives for him to work as hard as he has last season . He will probably have a mediocre year then move to the MLS next year !!

We need a backub. Either for him or for Iniesta if he's the opne covering the left wing. I don't think Jeffren can succesfully replace Henry in the important games... Iniesta can- but than we need one more player in the centre of midfield. It's simple.

i think ppl r being unfair to henry simply cuz he's "henry". whether he's as good as he was at arsenal is irrelevant, he's role in the team n the formation is completely different. he's however the most effective player on LW last year. as good as iniesta is, he's less a scoring threat n really truly excels playing as an attacking midfielder. henry on the other hand, takes on defenders from the LW position time after time, while managing to cause problems more than half the time. tho he's not as clinical as before, he still makes everything looks simple, and ppl forget to appreciate how much he stil got.

Fenderek said...

It's not about not appreciating. What will happen if he's injured? We need backup.

I wish I was at their games.. Seeing it on the Tv set wasnt really as exciting..
Being there with adrenaline fully pumped into your vains really tells a lot about how much love we really have for the game. I guess its in our hearts to feel the players pain, the players game, and as a fan hope to make it to fame.. :)

henry is a fantastic player 25 for a winger.I think he is a fix starter for this season and he deserves it.

anyone who classifies henry and messi as "wingers" obviously hasn't been following barcelona.

Unknown said...

Yes he sucked against Chivas. But he was really good in the first two games against Seattle and Galaxy.

This "injury" sounds like a cop out just to stay in Barcelona rather than risk injury with France

Fenderek said...

Winger or not- we need a backup in case he's injured... Iniesta can be one- but than we need a backup at the centre of midfield. What if ge gets injured when Keita and Toure are out (January)? One more transfer- that's all we need.

mike in africa said...

we surely need back up, there's nothing wrong with that. but too many ppl have written henry off after a pretty good season. and DON'T accuse other barca fans of not following barca games. most of us won't miss a match. so PISS OFF if u hav that mentality. fenderek is right, a LW/CM signing would be great. tho i think it's difficult finding a great signing who's willing to warm the bench more often than not (with most of iniesta/xavi/toure/kei/sergio/henry being healthy).

Fenderek said...

This is the key. The guy would have to be good- but also willing to wait a year or so. With everybody healthy- there is no way of imroving that line up front (Henry-Ibra-Messi with Xavi and Iniesta behind). I'm sure Henry is capable of few more games like this one against Real...

But he is getting older- and could be injured. We need a cover- a in a long term we need a replacement. Is Jeffren THAT good? Definitely not now- but in the future- who knows? Bojan on the left side? Maybe? Signing a talented and good player that could wait could indeed be tricky... Maybe getting an experienced central midfilder to cover for Iniesta when ge goes to left side of the attack? Or who knows- maybe one of the young guys will explode just like Busquets did last year? I guess we just have to keep faith in Pep. Hell, if there is one guy I believe that he knows what he's doing- that's him...
