Medical: Messi will not play super cup game

Barcelona's medical staff has announced that Barcelona player Lionel Messi (22) is doubtful for the first leg of the Spanish super cup against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

New tests today have indicated that the player has suffered an overburdening of an adductor and one of the quadriceps muscles at the front of his left thigh. Messi will now undergo treatment to remove the inflammation and the evolution of the injury will determine if the player will be available for the super cup game.

Madrid sports paper Marca meanwhile claims that it's almost certain that Messi will not play on Sunday. Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola doesn't want to take risks and will therefore not let the Argentinian play. The player's father and agent Jorge Messi would have confirmed to the paper that he will not play.

I sometimes think after reading comments taht some of the poeple on this board WANT them to do badly...

Let's face it- there is no way to have a cover for this guy. But he didn't brake a leg. It's a simple thing, he'll miss one game- big deal... Allows others to step in. It's not like we are going to lose 0:6 to Bilbao because our forwards are slightly injured...

No marquez too right? Sigh. The only thing that could make this any worse was if xavi went down with an injury.

On the bright side we'll soon find out if Jeffren Bojan and Pedro are enough to back-up our front line :)

Hm

Toure
Keita - Iniesta
Pedro - Bojan - Jeffren

Guess we only will win 5 titles this year.

We will do fine without them, our youth knows how huge of a match this means to them and everyone. Not mention how big of an opportunity this is for them to prove something not only to Pep, us as supporters, to themselves, and on the world stage. I'm viewing this as a positive thing, its time for Bojan and every other youngsters to shine.

Some of you actually DO want them to lose, don't you? So you can than say "ha! if they bought those players I wanted- we would have won"! Is that whar supporting tyour team means nowadays?

We have to use the tactic that we used vs Chivas which allowed Dani alves to push up as a Right mid and busquets or yaya (whoever is playing DM) to play puyols position while puyol goes to the right...

----------VV----------
---toure------pique---
puyol----------maxwell
-----xavi-----keita---
alves----------------
pedro----------henry(trained today)
--------bojan--------

Fenderek.. I agree.. The sad thing is that many of these "fans" just jumped on the bandwagon after Barca started to win.. And the same fans will abandon the bandwagon if Barca will lose few games.. Bunch of glory hunters the are..

I would not mind if we lose if it would put some fear into txiki and Laporta to go out and strengthen the damned squad like pep asked for in the first place. But only because its a 2 legged final and we could win the 2nd leg :)

@fenderek, the bozos are supporters of buffoon etoo, they want the team to fail so that they could point the bad results due to etoo departure. Just look for the clowns at any of the Zlatan's articles in this blog, they are always available spewing hatred as anonyms. Best is to neglect them. They are imposters pretending to be cules.

this will actually end up being a very interesting game. bojan will show his skill at the center foward position and la masia will hopefully show the talent its been putting out... hopefully these youngsters show their talent and make a trio of their own

think about it - if we could draw against tottenham after dominating play with our youth team players, we can surely draw against or beat athletic.

and i want to make it clear that i at least have supported barca since 2003 and i am not going to abandon my club even if they lose every game in the calendar.

Barca4life "like pep asked for in the first place"
Pep is happy with the squad, he said that a couple of more signings will be welcomed, but he is not criticizing the board for the summer, they have just brought Ibra "his dream" for him.
I don't value Barcelona's board so low, if a big club like ours needs to be motivated by a loss, then we are not a big club.
you try to make it sounds like if Tixiki and Laporta are acting against Pep's will, that is not true.
HAIL for all the true fans here, whatever happens any time we are behind our team.
