Talks with Manchester City defender Kompany

Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws claims that Barcelona has contacted Manchester City central defender and defensive midfielder and Belgian international Vincent Kompany (23).

Barcelona would last week have talked with Jacques Lichtenstein, the agent of Kompany, sounding him out about the player's willingness to join Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

Even though Barcelona would have made clear he was at that time still only an alternative option in case the transfer of Shakhtar centre-back Chygrynskiy wouldn't go through, Kompany informed the club through his agent that he's interested in a transfer to Barcelona. With the transfer of Chygrynskiy now almost certainly excluded (read more here), Barcelona could this week start moving for Kompany.

Well, he can play centre-back and DM, which would solve two problems but don't know if City will let him got that easily. Maybe they'll ask a first option on Messi in return...

Don't know man... so many papers claimed so much had happened but more than often it turns out not to be true. I just would keep all my hopes down for sure.

Would be a nice addition BTW :)

I'd be pretty pleased with him. He's injured for the moment though, and is injured pretty often which is my only problem with him.

Besides that, he's extremely talented and very skilled which would make him ideal for Barça. He can play CB, DM, CM and even RB (played RB for a while at Anderlecht) so his versatility is very convenient as well.

He's very strong and at the same time a very good dribbler and passer, a bit like Touré actually, but with more defensive awareness.

Came across a site... Would like to share with you guys, some of you might already know about it though :)

Vertoghen is actually rated more than his compatriot Kompany... Could some one care to elaborate please :)

Kompany didn't work out in Hamburg at all. He wasn't even in the String Line-Up in the End and had always been injured. In my opinion it would be a big mistake to buy him, especially because I think that he wouldn't be very cheap.

Caceres, Henrique and now Kompany. How many CB flops do we want to buy? Why not give Muniesa and Fontas a chance? Guardiola said they played and developed well. So I'd prefer promoting Atletic players instead of buying expensive flops every year.

For that money we should better get Cesc. Because with him we are more versatile in midfield and can movie Iniesta to the wings!

kompany? an excellent decision! would solve our dm AND cb AND rb problems. puyol cn finally stop covering for alves, kmpany can play as cb alongside puyol pique and marquez, he can play in midfield when keita toure are at africa nations cup. this is the kind of man we need. get him and then go after afellay who can solve our attacking midfield problems and can play on the left wing. just two players can solve our problems. of course getting kompany would be kind of hard as they want first option on messi. make his buyout clause 500 million euros and then let city have first option and then get kompany and afellay.

for me, i really doubt, that he would be an addition.
saw him sometimes, playing for german club, hsv, and was a flop.
also don't know about good games by him at mancity

He's not a good solution i'think too, maybe he has some potential but it's not something special. My opinion is that we don't need to spend money for players who are not fantastic, better way is buy only one expensive player like Cesc, who will cover every problem in the midlefield because we will have 3 players Cesc, Iniesta and Yaya who can play as DM,CM and LW and there is no need for more players.
In defence, we have enough players, Milito will be recovered in next 2 months so it wouldn't be so smart to spend big money for player like Company who will siting on the bench like Caceres.
Maybe we have some problems on the right side where we don't have good back up for Alves and Messi, and my suggestion is buying Hasan Salihamidzic from Juventus. He is not expensive, he has a lot of experience (32 years old) playing a important games for Bayern Munich (against Real Madrid was always fantastic) and he can play very good on the right fullback and right winger.

With Fabregas and Salihamidzic we don't need anybody else.

It doesn't matter now who we get. We are screwed for next season.

My reasons:

1. We won't be as lucky with injuries as we were last season.
2. Madrid have much more squad depth. Their bench could still come into second place. They did it last year. Our bench on the other hand is not even complete.
3. We should have kept Keirrison. What if Ibra gets hurt? Who will step in? Certainly not Bojan because he is not consistent enough to be a regular replacement for a starting center forward. Keirrison should have been kept. Just watch and see that we will need Keirrison this season. Pep has made a huge mistake by letting him leave on loan. Bojan is not an adequate replacement for neither Henry, Messi, or Ibra.
4. We need at least 2 world-class players. One for the CB position and one for CM. Fabregas and Chygrysnkiy would have been the ideal candidates but we can forget about them now because they are not coming. This leaves us with no one else who could come and give us the quality that these two can deliver.
5. Jeffren and Pedro are not good enough for Barca and might never be good enough. Sure, Pedro looked great in pre-season but who was he up against? MLS teams? Give me a break. La Liga and CL are a cut above his level and I doubt that he will ever be a regular starter for a team of Barca's quality.

Bottom Line: If we don't sign another CM and CB, we will fail in La Liga and the CL next season. That is certainly going to happen.

You know what's funny?
I read exactly the same kind of negative predictions about the new season last year on this blog... Did you think last year that Busquets was good enough? Seriously- how many of us would say that he'll be in the starting 11 during CL final? So IMO saying that Pedro or Jeffren are DEFINITELY not good enough is... well, we'll see...

It's not Championship Manager, guys. I think many ppl really forget that...

Sport claims Barca inquired about Arda Turan from Galatasaray... If we really want him we could buy him in split second, Rjikaard being their manager :)

Better option fo us would be signing young Serbian defender Neven Subotic from Borusia Dortmund. He's 20 yeara old, great player and will be better and better, player for this year and for future. We can sign him for 15 millions I think

Look, i'm sure the board is aware of our current squad situation and when it comes down to it, we will use the money as we are a very financially healthy club. Therefore, if they believe we really do need Cesc - they will do all they can to buy him. Same goes for a CB. Seriously, i'm not worried at all because as Fenderek says, the 'same negative' predictions were stated last year and look what happened. Visca la Barca.

I'm from belgium and 'het laatste nieuws' is not exactly he most reliable newspaper in our country so believe of it what you want.

He sure has talent but isn't always consistent, although he would fit our style maybe, back when he played in belgium he was criticized for always looking for "the footballing way out" rather then kick the ball far and beyond..

Roland Juhasz Anderlecht central deffender. 192cm high, faast, top technic, heading expert and his price is 5m eur. Bayern Munchen is about to sign him, he would be perfect for barca. How to contact Pep Guardiola? Anyone knows?
