Manchester City wants first option on Messi

British tabloid The People claims that Manchester City is negotiating to have a first option to sign Barcelona right wing attacker and Argentinian international Lionel Messi (22).

The English club would have been willing to pay a transfer fee of 118 million euro° this summer but Messi doesn't want to leave.

Manchester City would now has asked the player's agent and father Jorge, as well as Barcelona, for an agreement which would see the club have a right of first refusal if the Argentinian ever wants to leave Barcelona.

Due to the interest of Manchester City, Barcelona would have been forced to propose Messi a new contract this month. Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia claims that the English Premier League club would have offered Messi a contract that included a year salary of 12 million euro net.

I say sell them the first option and just forget about it.

After that use like 50% of the money to donate to UNICEF or some other charity and then use the some of the rest to increase Messi pay.

WTF? Because City offer him 12m euros, we offer Messi a new contract worth 12m euros a year? If Ciy offer him 20m euros, will we become scared again, and try to increase Messi's wage even more? Similar to what we did with Ronaldinho? We are Barcelona, why are our board so terrified about losing players? Why shouldn't Barcelona be good enough for the best players?

Damn tired of reading that gala guy spamming every article!!

As for Messi leaving don't worry guys. First of all, unlike some players who were indebted to their manager/coach e.g. Cesc and Wenger (and may move to another club following their mentor), Messi on the other hand is indebted to the club for paying for his growth hormone deficiency problem when he was still a child. Unless some monumental crisis happen at the club or the club wants him out, then fret not, nothing will make him leave.

Let them have a first option. If we can get money for that, what's the problem? If Messi wants to stay, thatoption is worth nothing. And if Messi wants to leave, he'll leave anyway, so if it's to City or another club that doesn't matter then.

I say, pay us 20 mil and you can have the first option. It means nothing. If someday he decides to go, it will be up to him where he goes.

this is not the joke of the day,i think barca can consider this but its only if man city can pay us 999 million euros and pay messi 100 million euros a year.i know there gonna be deleted from football coz of dept if they inted to do that.
MAD CITY.

I wouldn't mind to give them a first option.

Lets say they pay us 20 mio. Euros for the right to sign the player before any other team can IN CASE we want to sell.

We won't sell anyway so if they want to get rid of 20 mio., then do it.

otherwise WHY in the blue hell should Barca give them a first option? its not like we have a great relationship with Man City or that they are useful or anything.

its just a question, how much do trophies worth?for me priceless thats why we should keep messi,

on the otherside the financial side,if we sell next year messi for 120-150mil then this money(money that we need 5-10 seasons to make"adding the expences")can go to our youth academies and other projects so barcelona will stay a rich club for alot of years and create many talents like messi.

since i am a fan of football i want to see messi playing for barca till the end of his career, but if this means we wont see another player than him i would gladly sell him after 2-3 seasons in order to bring huge money to the club(its nothing like the ronaldinho case, cause ronaldinho was bought, messi is homegrown....99% of the fans didnt want ronaldinho out at his prime for 100mil then so how will they accept a messi departure?,also would we win cl without r10? and would we use that money efficiently?)

its a tough call, but certainly messi is very young and can keep his current form for 2-4 more years at least then if he decides he wants to play in another league the team should give him the chance.....

Bullshit again. 12M euro net in the UK equals about 20M EURO before taxes. There is no way in hell they would offer him that.

i wouldn't do it what if messi gets the wrong idea and feels like hes not wanted anymore DON'T RISK IT

messi is the best of the best do not let him go, for anything do what ever it takes to make him stay in barca, yes he is just one player, but the club does not play the same without him, when he comes out to the field you can see the diference, messi is number 1

I really think we should consider allowing Man City to have first option not just on Lionel Messi but also the whole of our current squad, so as soon as they all turn 36-35 or become surplus Man City can have them for a few of course.

Thats F'd up Sanur

How is Messi's payrise suddenly related to City's offer? Messi will get a new contract offer so he will remain the best paid player at barca - ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
