Agents Vidic dismiss Barcelona rumours

Asked about the rumours linking Manchester United central defender and Serbian international Nemanja Vidic (27) with a move to Barcelona (read more here), the player's agent Paolo Fabbri said in an interview with British sports site Setanta that the player won't leave this summer:

"Nemanja Vidic will stay in Manchester. I don't think we will have any surprises in the short term. We are not planning to move. This week, on Monday and Tuesday, we were at Manchester United to speak with David Gill, for other reasons, but we also spoke about Vidic.

Vidic is supposed to stay there. A move is not possible unless some Arab makes a crazy offer! But in a normal situation, Nemanja will stay there. Barcelona and many other teams can be interested in Vidic - that is another story. Three or four Italian teams would be pleased to have the player. But he is under contract. His deal has been already extended until 2012."

Another agent of the Serbian defender, Silvano Martina, said the same in an interview with Italian sports site 24 Ore di Sport: "No, there's no chance that Vidic leaves Manchester. Despite losing the Champions League final, he is at a great club with a lot of ambition, that has reached the final of the greatest European competition for two consecutive years now. This season, he also won the Premier League."

Out of all the players we have been linked this summer, three today have already said that Barcelona have made no contact whatsoever!

One wonders whether we are Barcelona or Sporting Gijon when looking at the transfer season so far.

I was certainly not expecting that a huge club like Barcelona which have won 2 CLs lately and the Treble had a 30m transfer budget while Madrid who has been pissed on in Europe for 6 years has a transfer budget of 250m. Doesn't doing well in Europe result in any money whatsoever and doing poorly result in a reduced transfer budget? Madrid attracts all the cracks while Barcelona looks in the trash can?

A teams that didn't win always stpends more, Anony. Look at last summer. Don't be so negative. Who cares about Madrid anyway? Don't be obsessed by other clubs, support your own.

Madrid has certainly spent much money in the last year as well, even before Kaka and Ronaldo. What do we do with all our CL money and how do Madrid get all these money? we must ask ourselves it. Is it because we buy players like Hleb and Caceres instead of superstars like Madrid does when we don't win?

Do we pay for the mistakes of Hleb, Milito, Caceres now? But Madrid has also done mistakes like that dutch striker and Gago, but it doesn't seem to bother them. They go for the cracks anyway. I don't understand this. Talk about shirt sales doesn't make sense. Every club sells shirts, but why can Madrid spend so much?

For you guys who does'nt seem to understand the Barca way: we will never get lured into spending that kind of ridiculous transferfees that some other clubs are spending. We base our game and our squad on our own products from La Masia. If you dont like this sentiment and way of thinking maybe you should look for another team to support? This is Barca, and it will never change into Madrid! I was a little put off even when Barca bought Henry and the whole "Fantastic four" talk began to evolve. We all witnessed how that went... Many of you, even in this forum, was totally devestated last summer to. And we went on to make history. Dont you think Pep knows what is necessary to preserve the Barca-spirit? Have a little faith guys! And those of you who think reality is like Football Manager, or whatever, need to get out more. Meet some girl or boy and relax! We won the treble for crying out loud!

Let us not fool ourselves bogman. We are looking at many superstars all the time, Ribery, Ibra, Villa, but they are slipping through our hands, especially now that Madrid use so much money on the market. The longer we wait, the less likely we will get any great player this summer.

Well said Bogman. We don't need players as hard as Real Madrid do. Of course signing left back/wing etc. is somehow a need. But Hleb's future is still uncertain. The same is Eto'o.

Eto'o is the most vital transfer imo. And that's why they are talking about striker alternatives, since we don't know what Eto'o will do before the end of the transfer window.

To all people who whine out for transfers to Barca, wait and see... I'm sure the board and pep not are laying on the beach drinking mojitos. But they will first announce when something is settled. They are trying not to leek infomation that will start disturbing rumours.

I will patient wait and see what happens. And remember we will get 3-4 player just from La Masia.

més que un club

the most important thing for pep and the board to do is to renew yaya, etoo etc from our treble winning squad. if guddy and hleb want to move on then get good money for them and invest in strengthening the squad. we don't need a vidic, ribery, ibra, villa we have pique, iniesta, xavi, alves, messi the list goes on!

Exactly, Vidic would not fit in La Liga. To slow and 'boxy'.

And btw, Milito was no bad transfer. We don't have a crystal ball, who knew he would get injured.
Caceres was a bit expensive for just potential - we could have bought a proven CB for that kind of money. And Hleb was good for Arsenal, but he just started to play like shit for us. So OK, we sell Hleb (and hopefully don't lose that much money) and loan Caceres and we're back on track. And gives a damn about the 'scums'. WE won't stress into decisions just cause' RM is spending crazy (!) money. We need 2-3 backup players and 1 'superstar'.

@ zeni....we did have a crystal ball about milito...he did have a bum knee we just assumed it had healed...remember that he was going to sign for madrid and then failed his medical?

hleb was signed for the wrong role, that was poor tactical planning...

In my opinion they were both bad transfers not because they are bad players.

Caceres was overpriced, again not a bad player just not a good transfer...wouldnt you rather have the 15-20 we spent on Caceres back to put towards a ribery???

For me, fact that madrid signed kaka and ronaldo is not big deal, that really doesn't need to mean anything in terms of wining trophies, but I have to say I'm really disapointed because we still haven't renewe contracts of our players, first yaya, now valdes. I'm afraid we culd lose them especially yaya. Also, one has to say that after madrid big spending, we will find it dificult to sign quality players, such as ribery or ibra, for a racional price:(

I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD AGREE WITH ME IF I SAY NOW COULD BE A GOOD TIME TO GO FOR NANI AS A WINGER WE NEED. FOR ME HE HAS SPEED,HE SCORES.. BALL CONTROL AND BEING AN PORTUGAL PLAYER HE COULD EASILY ADAPT TO PLAYING WITH THE BALL (i.e. passing cause i know he likes the ball)PLUS IN TERMS OF DEVELOPMENT....HE HAS LOTS TO GO AND CAN BE AS GOOD AS CRISTIANO....just a thought...think about it....what do you think pep, and Ramzi,Barca4life, Kami,Kxevin????....Please think about it carefully and respond. sorry about the caps just wanted it to be noticed.

Rivaldo : now tat Ronaldo is no more at Manchester, Fergi has no necessity to sell Nani as he would try to use Nani in the right wing role. surely Fergi wont let Nani also go. so lets look at other options.

P.S : we could've gone for him last summer or so when he dint get many matches to play.

No one wants us to be like Real Madrid but as the best team in the world, we have the right to expect at least one world class signing and Toni and Benayoun just don't cut itl. Zlatan and Inter have all but rejected us and there is nothing going on. I know that the transfer season has just begun but all other teams are in negotiations with other players while we are still wondering what players to bid for. I'm just worried that all our targets will be gone by the time Barca do anything. Believe it or not but Barcelona can improve in some areas. We don't want a bunch of stars but some quality players would be nice. Some people have the same mentality that they had after Barca won the double in 2006. "We have a great team, no need to change anything. The players will all still be completely motivated next season."
