Deal with Inter on Ibrahimovic

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona and Inter Milan have reached an agreement on the transfer of Inter Milan forward and Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic (27).

After continued negotiations over the past days, the transfer fee would be 10 million euro° plus Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28).

Barcelona would also be close to find a personal agreement with Ibrahimovic, who wants to join Barcelona because this would give him more chances to win the Champions League. It's not yet clear if Eto'o will accept to be included in the deal.

French sports paper L'Equipe unconfirmedly claims that Eto'o and his agent Josep Maria Mesalles travelled to Milan on Monday to meet with Inter officials. Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed earlier this week that Eto'o has asked Inter a fee of 10 million euro for five years plus a bonus of 15 million euro to sign for the Italian champions.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Eto'o flew to Paris to negotiate with Inter Milan but that Eto'o could at this moment be closer to city rivals AC Milan. Barcelona would ask a transfer fee of 40 million euro for Eto'o. El Mundo Deportivo nevertheless claims that Barcelona won't ask a high fee and is ready to accept any decent bid.

If Eto'o agrees then it will be a good deal.

eto should stay at barcelona. we dont need ibrahimovic.

Its about time and the deal is reasonable and its a good response to Real Madrid now all that is left is to get Robinho as a back up for Ibra or to replace Henry

Zlatan is amazing, but I fear his behaveviour after being in Barca for 2-3 years

Anonymous said...

that's impossible. eto'o + 10 mio eur? first they asked for eto'o + 40 mio eur. why should they decrease their amount now?

it would be a good transfer. i beliebe eto'o is the best striker in the world but i don't know if he will be hungry next season, too. furthermore there is the african cup where he will miss about 6 weeks.

10 mio euro are ok. max. 15 mio but not one cent more.

by the way: i read today that robinho has offered himself to barca. with robinho on the left and messi on the right => woooooooowwwwwww

That fee is just impossible unless Inter has gone mad... Zlatan has a contract for four more years while Eto' only one, he's one year younger, so why would they accept this? Doesn't make sense.

James said...

He has a contract for 3 more years not 4. Once they both switch teams both players will have 4 or 5 year contracts so...

jordy said...

I just don't believe the story.
1) eto'o is to proud to go to inter
2) his wage demands are impossible
3) the fee is hard to assume
4) el mundo is the only paper who reports this

btw, if there is one player who's always hungry it's samuel!

I prefer this deal over forlan or villa.. But i'm a bit sad if samuel would leave. It would ofcourse be worse if he went for free..and zlatan is a great player

This is what El Mundo Deportivo is hoping for!! This is not reality...

I pledge to Laporta, Txiki and Guardiola to keep Eto'o, to get Trezeguet for Back-up and to keep a good an eye on Bojan who showed clinical when given the opportunity...

yuti said...

It's the fee, James. The value of a player with only one year left drops quite dramatically, so this Eto'o + 10 doesn't make sense. From Inter's point of view it should at least be Eto'o + 25. Otherwise they cannot sell this to their fans after Milan got almost 70 for Kaka.

Such a shitty piece of paper....

weird piece of news but gr8 to hear tat Laporta and Pep are pushing for some transfer. we would be very happy if we sign someone, someone who could help the team reach new heights, someone to make the Galacticos shit feel tat they are no ways near Barca!

James said...

yuti - i know you're talking about the fee. but i'm talking about the contracts. after players are swapped both of their contracts will be new 4-5 year deals. at that point will ibra still be worth 30 million more than eto'o?

being in the last year of the contract reduces the fee, but not as much as you might think. when he leaves for free his agent will just ask whoever signs him for a huge signing bonus in lieu of the transfer fee.

as someone else pointed out, man city still paid 20 million for de jong who had less than 6 months left on his contract.

yuti said...

Man City is an exception. They pay fees that are outside the market because they have resources other clubs (Barcelona and Inter belonging to those) don't have.

And I don't see what the possible situation after the transfer has to do with this. And if Inter sticks to 80, then he still would be at least 30 more than Eto'o if he had a three or four more years. And now he has only one...

I think Barca will end up selling Eto'o this time. Even though Laporta has said they will try to keep him, i think they will end up selling him instead. Like others have said, Barca cant be without their main striker for 6 weeks during the African Cup of Nations, and perhaps they think now is the time to sell him because hes in good form.

Whatever happens, i wish Samu good luck and hope Barca find a good replacement if he does go. Of course, i would prefer if he stayed.

James said...

yuti - The situation after the transfer has a lot to do with it. Because let's say for example Barca offered Eto'o + 20 million. Inter rejects because they think Eto'o's contract is expiring so it should be + 30m. They would regret that decision because after Eto'o is signed he could be a 40 million asset when fully signed, and for the sake of argument let's say a fully signed Ibra is a 50 million asset. Well they could have had Eto'o + 20 million. You throw in the fact that Ibra also wants to leave, so they could be facing the same situation a year or two from now.

I think people are too focused on the last contract year thing. It does give other teams a better bargaining position but it doesn't dramatically alter their value.

Man City is an exception. But they could very well be a suitor for Eto'o. Why would we accept a 20 million valuation on a swap from Inter when we could sell to Man City for 30 or more.

James said...

And the 80 # from Inter is complete BS. The market has been set. He's worth less than Kaka (65) He also wants out, so if last year of Eto'o's contract lowers his value then Ibra wanting out lowers his value too.

yuti said...

"They would regret that decision because after Eto'o is signed he could be a 40 million asset when fully signed"

Doesn't make sense. Eto'o is 28, so if they want to sell him in a few years time, no way he'll be worth more 40.

"You throw in the fact that Ibra also wants to leave, so they could be facing the same situation a year or two from now."

But it's not two years from now, so they still can value him high.

"And the 80 # from Inter is complete BS. The market has been set. He's worth less than Kaka (65)"

If you look at their performances over the last two years, I wouldn't know why Zlatan would be worth less than Kaka. The opposite is true and Inter knows that too.

"Man City is an exception. But they could very well be a suitor for Eto'o. Why would we accept a 20 million valuation on a swap from Inter when we could sell to Man City for 30 or more."

Because Eto'o doesn't want to go to Man City so that doesn't count (Ronaldinho also rejected 40 from City last summer and we had to accept 20-25 from Milan, Milan also had to accept less for Kaka because the player didn't want to go there---they are even lucky that a club with a bigger name is spending crazy money now, something that isn't the case for Inter)

It looks like a done deal. I don't agree with it but I respect the clubs decision. We need to back Pep's judgement and should have no reason to doubt him. In my opinion it should be a straight swap but for an extra $10 million it's not a deal braker. Any more than that and it's not worth it. I guess with Eto'o going to the African Cup of Nations - the $10 million will cover Eto's absence and Ibra playing while Eto would have been away.

Can't wait for the new season!!

hope this is true....he';d be so good.....tall,BIG,skillful although arrogant...

but still,,him and eto'o r both arrogant....it will be better if ibra comes n eto'o goes.....otherwise,,,,think of aguero n benzema ....they'd fit in better......but somehow i think ibra is gonna be a BIG SUCCESS if he comes.....la liga will be better, and we can compete with madrid and beat them 6-0 although we can already beat them.....

i just dont wAnt people saying that "real is gonna conquer" n "real is richer than barca"so we gotta compete by signing about 6 world class players or at least 3....but we must seriously not sell to much....just offload eto'o,keita, hleb, guddy n caceeres n bring in ibra, benzema, maicon, bruno, masch n cole.......n no more rumours about us signing players 30 years and above like toni....

the media has gott give me a break.....n aguero is good too....+plus henrique that would be a star to be...

really don't undestand why so many barca fans think the sun shines out of ibra's arse! if they wan etoo they should give US ibra + 10mil as compensation for when he f**ks up the dressing room. he may be a good player but he is untested in la liga, whereas samu must have one of the best scoring records in la liga history, nd he's an asshole, ow do we know that after one season being in messi and iniesta etc shadow he wont demand a move away like he is doing now. might be being too harsh on the guy but the word 'figo' comes to mind!

I hope this is true , but i'd like they keep Eto'o , he best striker in the world , but if he must go let him go . He gave us everything we needed from him :)

10 + Eto'o is reasonable, looks like Inter has really backed of their original and unrealistic demands.

Now hopefully we can get Ribery and not pay too much for him. Get Filipe and re-up Toure and we're pretty much settled.

Ramzi said...

@James, I can see your point regarding Contract duration. But The impact must not be evaluated purely as a financial value after the transfer is done, but as a negotiation position before the transfer is sealed.

Being in his last season, Eto'o can buy out his contract for around 15 M (I think even less than that). So when your team negotiate with another team, the other team will put that fact on the table. Time is not on ur side because a player like eto'o may get upset and you will be offering him a reason to do his own interest (like buying out his contract). Thats why his Value drops down dramatically in such situations.

Inter position is mych stronger while negotiating Ibra transfer. they do not have that concern. So they can have more destinations to sell the player to, or even keep him after all. While if Barcelona already told Eto'o that he will play somewhere else next season (that will only happen behind closed doors), then there is no way backward.

The worst scenario for the club is to keep eto'o without renewing his contract. Something he may force them to do if he wants, so next season he can get a big amout of money as a signing fee from any club.

This way, He will leave next season for free. so now we can compare:

Ibra for Eto'o + 10 M this summer

or

Eto'o leaving next summer, how much will Ibra (or equivalent) cost Barcelona then?

This situation put ur club in weak position toward any other team, and in a weak position while negotiating with Eto'o to renew his contract. He can demand more money because it will still be cheaper than letting him go for free next summer then making a huge transfer to cover his absence. Its more complicated than it seems.

it is time to ccelebrate ramzi!! ibra is on his way for a very good price!!

rahul said...

@ ramzi ur right. but i dont think etoo does have any issues bout renewing his contract. n neither do barca. this all is just specualtion in just few days how can moratti go from 40 to 10. n moreover ibra is not like way better than etoo they r almost teh same age. plus ibra goes missing in big games n this guy has too much ego to just fit in anywhere when teh team need him. like etoo drops back sometimes as second striker plays on teh left, right runs all teh way too defend puts in a lot of hard work i dont think ibra wud do that. when players like henry take almost 2 yrs to settle n perform n get used to teh barca system then u cant expect ibra just come n score like 20 or 27 goals a season. n we cant let that happen if doesnt settle then i dont think bojan or any other player can take teh job n perform regulary as too inexperience n young. dont buy ibra thats teh bottom line, keep etoo n rather spend teh money on getting llorente.is young n has lot of potential.

Ramzi said...

@rahul, I will have my saying about Ibra later. but i was explaining the Contract status of the two players. Which has nothing to do with quality.

As long as there is no renewal, it means there are issues for both Eto'o and barcelona for not renewing. And as long as it is not officially announced, Ibra transfer is still only a speculation.

So lets Hesitate, before Celebrate ;)

Oh God.
Why, why would we bring a world-class attacker? Why would we let Eto'o go, that's a enigma for me. He just had the best season in his life, he never played better and this is how the club is treating him. C'mon. Eto'o should reject exchange, not sign a new contract and leave next season on free transfer because what the club is doing to him is worse then what Real was doing to Robinho last year. The guy is one of the best strikers in Barca's history and they are trying to drive him away at his prime. I mean, where's the logic in that. I always say that the club is more important then a player butin this case I'm fully behind Eto'o.

Ondra said...

This move is risky. But we need to do risky things to keep up with the best. The situation is specific and i believe that this transfer would be the best solution.
Maybe Benzema would attract me more - he is younger, so we would be in better position trying to sell him after 6 years. But there is no need to this, because we have Bojan.

But we still desperately need a winger and a left back + midfielder.

Ondra said...

Move reportedly denied, it even wasn't taken into consideration. According to his agent, Ibra is worth more than C.Ronaldo and Kaka. Combined:))
