Zhirkov prefers to join Barcelona

Asked about the rumours linking him with a move to several European top clubs (read more here), CSKA Moscow left winger and Russian international Yuri Zhirkov (25) has unconfirmedly said in an interview with Russian sports paper Sport-Express that a transfer to Barcelona is his first option:

"I would prefer to join Barcelona, but that does not automatically mean I would turn down Chelsea. I should stress again that there is a difference between playing for a club and sitting on the bench. If I had to sit on the bench, I wouldn't even want to join Barcelona. Said that, I am still yet to receive any specific offers.

Milan or Barcelona? Being a fan of both of those teams, it would depend on the contract! (laughs) With all else being equal, I would perhaps go to Barcelona because it is a city I like very much and I have friends there. However, we are talking about something that is a long way from reality right now."

sorry but i dont want him in our squad, even if he is a good player he should be ok when asked to sit on the bench, even messi sits on the bench and henry and eto,who is zhirkov to say he doesnt want to sit on the bench of barca? i dont think he means it a hleb way rather than he wants to be in regular 11,thats not possible in our squad,he doesnt have the talent to be in first 11

I reallt haven't seen enough of him yet, only in the Euros last summer. Looked good, but I heard he'd prefer to be LW and not LB, and I'd imagine he'd be a bench player if he was a winger.

Also, (kiss ass moment, i'm sure..) regarding Pep's note on the homepage about the tone of posters: I'm sure many people here will agree! It's a discussion board, not a place to unload and argue and bitch at each other. Aren't we all meant to be brought together by one common passion?! I can't wait for the european summer transfer dealings, keeps me going til the seasons start!

Buy him! Simple. He will be a brilliant L/B for us!

He is NO left back. How often has this to be said?

Especially with Dani on the other flank, he isn't the right choice.

Oh, anyway, Filipe is coming so all this talk is useless.

He reminds me exactly like Arshavin...

Dreaming of joining Barca and figuring out that he would just sit on the bench, and then ending up settling for an EPL team

yuti said...

He played left back (and very well) with Russia, so I don't see the problem and don't understand why some people keep saying "he's no left back".

Things also depend on the way a team plays. A right back at Barcelona is for example not the same as a right back at another team. If Barcelona wants him as left back, then that's their decision.

guys,,im pretty sure that cska moscow wont let him go without a high transfer fee....im very2 sure about that...n to me personally he is overrated like seriously...but i think he suits barca.....

@dude,,u r rite n on d spot.....this guy also reminds me of arshavin...haha

phew, barca has a lot of fans in russia dats 4 sure..

Bojan said...

Hauns what are you talking about?? He played left back for Russia and often attacked down the wing. That role was similar to one he could be playing for Barca. Have you even seen this guy play?

Whatever. He would be an excellent buy for us.

@ skanjos
he means he dont want to be the new gudjohnson of the team. It shows ambition not willing to be just a substitude.

I think it would be nice having him in the squad

I would prefer someone on the left wing who scores more goals. Can Zhirkov score 25 goals a season like Henry did?

fcbee said...

I like him but he's too expensive to sit on the bench and don't know if he fits Guardiola's system.

that should and must be our first signing

if theres one person i agree with totally in all this transfer melee, its LeonDragon. i think barca should leave aside all signings and renew toure's contract FIRST. he is TOP priority. i mean, what has the guy not done for us? hes played out of position for much of the second half of the season and done it with a smile on his face too. lets see zhirkov or someone do that. toure is really a true barca player. i would be devastated if he left because barca didnt renew his contract. we are not like madrid, giving obscene salaries, but i think ppl who deserve at least a decent payrise should be given that.

LeónDragón said...

thank you, anurag. hope barca-board see this the same way. to reward our players who showed loyalty, commitment and good behaviour, should be also something that make us "more than a club". especially in yayas case, who, without a doubt, proved his worth for our team.

skanjos said...

yaya signed a contract m8 ,he should be a proffesional and keep it,if the club wants to renew the contract because we have success let them, but its the clubs decision and if the players demands are too high they should sell him,i dont want yaya to get paid as much as xavi, iniesta, messi, henry are paid,if he wants that kind of money he should go to epl,all the year we are hearing about yaya's contract, well if he refuses just sell him.he is great but not ireplaceabale

Marc4barca said...

leon & Anurag- u are playing into yaya's agent's hand, most of the time renewal contracts dont start well cause it always a smart way to see if the player will accept a smaller raise just to stay at the club, then there is the agent like this one pressuring barcelona by making comments such as barcelona don't appreciate yaya and his agent could leave, yaya doesn't need to be fed "your the best" talk to play football. barcelona are working on yaya's contract but as many times before agents tend to over do things and cause their player to leave just to get paid higher from another club. all this time the agent has been the one talking, where is the comment from yaya, think about it. he will be here next season with a contract that works for him. it's a hectic transfer where we must bring players in quickly.

Marc4barca said...

*And his client could leave* not agent

LeónDragón said...

marc4barca, know what you think and at some point you are right, but you ain't got it, that it was a promise by the board to give him a pay rise if he plays well at barca. he came from monaco as a nobody and surely was paid like one, with the chance to earn more by good performances. so what do you think? did he? see, that's why he deserves a pay rise. no one said also to pay him as messi, etc. but it's a known fact that he's one of the badest paid players. and when you have offers where others want to pay more,it's a normal thing to ask for a pay rise when you by heart want to stay, after you, i repeat, was promised more in case of success. for me, no matter what, he deserves it, because of his skills and because to hold him. to talk with mascherano is also no good treatment on him. toure will become one of the best, i'm sure for that and hope barca know too.
p.s. i don't throw my s*** out before thinking bout it, so i reassure you to know about agent-tactics. but whatever happens, happens and time will prove what's right

LeónDragón Life said...

to skanjos...don't want attack you, but "just sell him, no one is ireplaceable". don't think that things are just so easy. just as i don't think too, that yaya is that type of character. see, at the end it's just football and i don't cry for that. but as a guy who earns his money too by work, i believe also that effort should be honored. otherwise all is worthless

Marc4barca said...

i know leon, that's why my post was directed at the agent and not yaya. i was just stating you and anurag were blasting barca for something that a agent said, u could never trust them, they dont play football they just get paid so they could careless where yaya their player goes. we dont really know how barca are going about this transfer season so i advise many to not hit out at barcelona, these are how contracts are done. some may not be done quickly and maybe not to the linking of 1 of the two parties liking but the deal is sgned hsome how some we cant go through everything qucik and smooth. last was one of our worst seasons ever, i wouldn't have upgraded yaya's contract either and you know what?? yaya is still here so that means something. skanjos is right in some parts yaya isn't irreplaceable and he definitely can't be paid as much as xavi and co but it doesn't give us a reason to throw him out, i would like him to stay and he will if his agent would just shut the f*** up. barca don't stand for crap as proven when we sold ronaldinho, if his agent continues to blast barcelona and whine about everything then it will reflect on yaya and then barcelona will get frustrated, if i was yaya i would ask my agent to shut up and wait till another offer comes up, if he isn't happy with the second one then he can consider a move.

THANK GOD&ALAH... This guy is great to play on the left. ANYWHERE on the LEFT. He can start on LW if we are unable to sign ribery. He can play LW as an amazing attacker and can also backup LB position if anything should happen. Hell he can even start at the position to be honest. This player is "crack", especially if our options don't include ribery. Greater height upfront he's close to 6ft. If our option on LW are silva, robinho, and I dont who else he is the best option after ribery.
In conclusion lets get ribery, however if that is not feasible he is the best option out there

Anurag said...

marc, mate, no one is blasting barca. i just say good sense should prevail, and that they should give toure his promised pay rise. peace out :)

Don Luis said...

First of all this guy is NOT a left back, if he did play LB he would leave our defense vulnerable because we will be playing with two attacking wingbacks.

I like Abidal, terrific player. When healthy BEST LB in the world hands down, Evra is good but Abidal is a tank. He is a great defender.

Zhirkov is not even as good as Hleb... Nor Bojan

WE have to renew Toure & Eto'o contract ASAP

Je me'apelle Samuel said...

@don luis... I agree "Pay the man his money" eto and toure deserve raises and extensions.

However to say Hleb>zhirkov= EPIC FAIL...lol

here's my proof... Did hleb even get a goal or assist this season...NOPE

if its true yaya is one of the lowest paid that sucks. hes worked his ass off for us its just right that we give the man his due. i agree with those that said agents talk calculated crap all the time thats their trade and i'm sure management knows that but do we have to go hardline too? we need to stop talking to masch et al pronto cos seems (to me at least) yaya is a proud guy he'd rather leave to keep his pride even knowing barca is the best place he can be atm. i'd really hate to lose him. yes no one is indispendable but hes the best out there. he has great chemistry with xavi and iniesta, plays seamlessly with our defence, knows our game by heart, has good attitude, scores messi like goals etc..i mean how do you replace someone that?
