Luca Toni could be alternative for Ibrahimovic

Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Barcelona is interested in Bayern Munich forward and Italian international Luca Toni (32).

A few days ago, Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would have called Toni to inform him about Barcelona's interest. Guardiola and Toni have been team-mates at Bresia six years ago and still have an excellent relationship. Guardiola would have made the Italian an offer and Toni would be delighted to join Barcelona.

Toni could be an alternative for the signing of Inter forward Ibrahimovic, whose transfer fee and wage demands would make a transfer very difficult at this point (read more here). Since Bayern Munich has already signed Mario Gómez a few weeks ago, the German club could be willing to sell the Toni this summer.

If you look for a different type as Eto'o, he's an option. But given his age, he cannot be the number one striker. If we can get him at a decent price, he could be a good back-up.

Wouldn't mind a straight swap for Hleb actually...

no no no... I just can laugh about toni... to bad for barca. technical to bad, running to bad, he's only good for headers and even not that at the last season for bayern...
I wouldn't even think about buying him.

Why are we always linked to maxxd out over age players?

trezeguet, drogba, toni, forlan

they are OLD

we need: benzema or aguero or torres

young, powerful, hungry, skillful, GOOD!

jordy said...

what a disaster that would be. he can score but can't play decent football..

its a shame we missed out on gomez, i think he would of been a good back-up for eto'o or whoever our main striker will be next season.

NO!

Toni would be great. Cheap, tall strong and can play the larsson role. Allows bojan to develop and best of all he can head the ball well so he adds diversity to our attack when we play teams like chelsea. We are always linked to old players because the board understands the potential that bojan gai deulofeu and icardi have. We dont need to buy young stikers, we already have amazingly talented young players coming through. We just need to let them develop and while we are doing that we need good players to fill in like giuly did with messi.

Most of the italian footballers that have played in La Liga have impressed.

I think Barcelona is often linked with an "old" striker because when he(?) gets too old, Bojan good enough to step in

Noooooo...

barca4life said...

Everybody wants gomez dzeko aguero ibisevic benzema or torres. But when we buy these players that cost 40 million + each, and the club goes back into debt and we have to sell messi toure iniesta and pique just to break even we will say why did the board waste money

barca4life makes an excellent point. Laporta has not only brought fiscal health to the club, but he has won the treble while doing so. Barca isn't the kind of club that spends crazy money for players. I'm surprised we splashed for Dani Alves, frankly.

Yes, the Evil Empire has a 250m war chest. They also have to shoot for the stars, since they were poleaxed this season, in Liga and Champions League.

We have quality in the B ranks, we have best in the world quality on the pitch. We don't need to overbuy, we just need one or two of the right players, including a bus-breaking striker who is good with the head. Toni could be the dude, maybe not.

Also remember that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING that you hear, until the club announces it officially, is a rumor, potentially made up by a journalist, or something he heard from his cleaning lady's hairdresser, who knows the switchboard person at the Camp Nou.

i_love_boobs_and_barca said...

I completely agree with barca4life. And I think that Toni would be perfect, especially because he would probably be willing to have the "Larsson role" in the squad. Of course, Eto'o stays.

Kxevin: Funny you say that we dont pay crazy money for players when we made Caceres one of the most expensive defenders in football history.

fcbee said...

16,5 million is not crazy money for a promising player. You can judge him after two seasons. And not every transfer can be a good one.

Why do some always look at the negative side pf things and don't say for example: incredible how we could get Pique for 5 million. Good job, guys!

barca4life said...

We paid 16 million for caceres is that 40 + million? And you are sadly mistaken if you think that is one of the most expensive in football history

Rio Ferdinand cost man utd 33 million pounds, Nesta cost 30 million euros, dani alves cost 32 million euros Ricardo Carvalho cost 20 million pounds Chiellini cost 21 million euros, cannavaro cost inter 23 million euros and i could go on and on

you all are talking about we have talented young players but did you all realise that if eto'o and henry gets injured they are not yet a worthy backup.

do you think that bojan will score at least 15 goals in 2 months when eto'o is away at the african cup.
do you think he will be there on the right time when we will need the goal to win the game just like eto'o always does?
my answer is NO he is not ready yet.
he is not yet a player like pato.

and that's the same with the other b players we can not depend on them yet. so my point is to bring quality players to barca and not players who are already old or players who doesn't get the chance to play at there club anymore than i would rather go for the youth players because for me they are at the same level.

why can't we spend a 50mil for a player if he's worth it?

you've got to remember this a expensive player brings much money for the club, why do you think madrid is buying such players because of the money they get for the commercial, shirts etc etc

someone above said that he still cannot believe that we paid that much for dani alves.
why can't we pay that much if he is that worth

and for me he paid us back with his performance this season so it is not a waste money.

and the ibra deal
barca is sleeping do you know how much money we can get out of him?
if you put ibra under pressure you will see the beauty of football in him. he is a player just like eto'o only he is a little bit skillful.
ibra loves to show that he is not what people are saying about him.

so i would say pay the 70 mil for him and you will see that you won't regret it especially when you put him under pressure.

he will become a player like ronaldinho. he will bring another style of attacking in front just like what dinho did.
and once more we won't regret it.

can someone tell me how much money we got out of dinho?
i'm talking about commercials or shirts etc etc not transfer fee.

i think a lot and that much money we will get out of zlatan.

wake up barca wake up cuz if we let ibra slip away to madrid and ribery too and villa than we won't get a chance next season against them.

it's time to strenghten your team not to buy only backups.

sorry for my english.

peace

Larsson role, Larsson role, Larsson role... WTF is with you guys? Barca don't need old&used players. If you want to talk about this famous "Larsson role", Henry is still here and he can do this job good enough. It's time to rejuvenate the squad.

Look at potential Guardiola wishes:
Toni (32), Forlan (30), Trezeguet (32), I mean, WTF???

And, of course, I agree with Kxevin, don't trust everything until it's official.

barca4life said...

Its because guardiola counts on bojan HouseMD. He knows that in a couple of years bojan will be ready. Thats why we arent going out to buy too many young players.

And raidall, bojan is not gonna score 15 goals in 2 months (mostly because 2 months during ACN = maybe 12 games) and i agree we need another backup to go along with bojan, but we wont be spending crazy money on any player. Laporta has made that clear. So if you want big money transfers you may want to consider becoming a real madrid fan.

Its a little disapointing to see arguments for players on the basis of their marketability. I thought that was not what Barça were about.

Sure, go ahead and tell me that is the reality of the situation but those are executive decisions made behind the scenes. As a fan, i want the most appropriate players in each position, not the most marketable. I especially dont see this as an argument that should stand against the possible development of Bojan.

Finally, I am not sure Luca Toni is the right choice. He misses too many chances and is still likely to be quite expensive.

James said...

You can't dismiss marketability. But raidall you are a bit misguided.

Ibrahimovic could potentially make us more money from a commercial perspective but it's not like we don't get money for having Eto'o on our team. Ibrahimovic would have to make us more commercial revenue than Eto'o does, and not only more, but 70 million more, which is obviously impossible. Besides, winning matters too even in marketing. It's easier for Barcelona to become a commercial success if we're winning trophies than if we just have a big star. In that sense who knows if Ibra can even match Eto'o in gaining us success.

If Ibrahimovic could bring us so much commercial success alone that we should pay 70 million for him, then Inter would never sell him. Why wouldn't they want that commercial revenue. Plus every big club in the world would have bought him for that amount already if they thought they could make it all back. It's obviously not the case.

I wouldn't believe all of Perez's talk about how 'strategically' success the Galacticos era was. He does have a point but if he really made as much money as he claimed Real wouldn't have racked up so much debt and needed all that money from the city of Madrid.

he would be great singing for Barca...but only beckup for Eto...or some other attacker...whu slhould replace eto if he leaves(ibra,villa..)

Ono said...

Well, he would be a signing much similiar to Larsson. End of the career but still has that something that got him the Golden Boot. Would like to see him at Barca, being a back-up to Eto'o and a great choice in games like Chelsea away where we desperatly needed a great header (altought, Alves's crosses would be out of this world even for him :D)

B4L : i totally feel tat Luca has lost everything after watching last year Euro matches of Italy. he was the only reason why Italy dint even qualify. he dint even score a goal i guess and missed so so many chances. Forlan and Trezeguet are lot better compared to Toni.

Xaviniesta said...

yea get him so we can be the laughing stock of la liga. how can we even consider him as an alternative to somebody like ibra. he's the worst signing prospect ever written abt barca.

tero said...

He has nothing more to offer than some decent headers...Dzeko is younger, better with foot and a strong, tall striker we have cried for...Is he really going to Milan??

Anonymous said...

Dzeko seems to be heading for Milan, while we concentrate on Toni, Forlan etc.

barca4life said...

And how much will Dzeko cost? Will it be less than Toni? Or will it be a huge chunk of the kaka cash?

Not me said...

oh my...can't find words how much i hate him
live in germany and know him well...
physical strong?...this guy is only good for divers after the easiest contact just to get a penalty
1,89 full of shame...

Anonymous said...

Dzeko will probably cost between 20 and 25m euros. Forlan probably close to 30m euros, old and used-up Toni will be 15m euros down the toilet.

xaviesta said...

he is never good enough!
bad joke!

Ono said...

And why would we bring Ibrahimovic, Dzeko or Forlan? Where would they play? Would we sell Eto'o then? A player that just had the best season of his life and that was an integral part of Barca's first treble. Would you then bring Ibra, Dzeko or Forlan so you can sit them on the bench?
Barca doesn't a world-class attacker. Barca needs a great substite. And Toni would be a great choice. Like Larsson was a few years ago

Anonymous said...

Have you seen Toni play this season? He has sucked. Comparing him with Larsson who played great for Man U as a 36 year old is laughable.

MBB said...

Great deal, as long as we pay no more than 2m including any signing bonus. Also his incoming salary should be structured like YaYa's! Management promise him a pay raise in a couple years!!!!!!
