Manchester United confident of signing Eto'o

British newspaper The Guardian and The Times report that Manchester United is interested in Barcelona forward and Cameroon striker Eto'o (28).

The latter claims that the English champions are lining up a move for Eto'o. Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is eager to find a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo as soon as possible and would have made a firm inquiry about Eto'o.

Manchester United would be confident of getting the striker and looks like beating their city-rivals Manchester City. While City reportedly offered 30 million euro° for Eto'o and was prepared to make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League, United would hope to secure a deal for less.

Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Barcelona has offered Eto'o, whose current contract expires in 2010, a three-year renewal worth 7,5 million euro a year, while Eto'o's agent Mesalles is asking ten million euro. Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would have set 20 July as deadline: when the pre-season starts, the coach want to know who will be his centre forward next season.

Asked about the renewal negotiations, Barcelona president Joan Laporta said in an interview with Spanish news agency EFE that he hopes to renew the contract of Eto'o: "A lot of clubs want to sign him. We'll do what we can to renew him, to extend his contract because in my opinion he's the best goalscorer in the world and a very professional player. Things depend on two parties but I believe we can reach an agreement, although not any price."

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that like last summer Barcelona has put Eto'o on the market and has discretely offered the player to several clubs. British tabloid The Daily Mirror claims that Barcelona has offered Eto'o to Liverpool in exchange for Liverpool defensive midfielder and Argetnine international Javier Mascherano (25) (read more here).

30 m euros bid will do

Even with 30 million, it still doesn't look very good. We have that other 30 to spend, which makes 60. Hleb probably isn't going nowhere and he was our main chance to pick up some extra money.

So with 60 we should have to buy a top class striker, someone for the left wing, two full-backs (right and left). 60 won't even be be enough for Ibrahimovic alone...

Not to Man United, he'll kill us if we meet in the CL! Better City or Inter or Milan.

@fcbee
Are the 30 millions we are supposed to have in transfer funds official? Does it say in our webpage or anything?
Anyway, how things are looking right now, I would renew Eto's contract and sign Ribery, even for €60 millions. I would also offload 1 CM (Hleb or Ribery) and buy another one and get backup for LB. After that I think we are OK. Not untill next year I would look for another CB - than we could sell Marquez or Milito.

man utd wont even be in the final anymore =P
they rely too much on ronaldo xD
Porto will finish them in the quarterfinals!

fcbee you're right, we need more money if we want Ibra. the bad thing is that since Eto'os contract expires next year his value sinks. I really hope that after Real has made theese big transfers Manu will be ready to make a bigger bid than 30 mill for Eto'o.

Selling Eto´o would be very stupid without knowing who will replace him. There are only 3 options: Forlan, Zlatan and Villa. Zlatan would be very expensive, Villa is about to join RM and are we ready to pay over 30 million for Forlan? Having a great CF is a huge difference maker that will decide your fate in the long run. Anybody can work hard or do the dirty work but very few player can score a lot of goals. Barca should have enough money to complete Zlatan-Eto'o swap and then buy Aguero or Ribery plus a left back, thats all we need if Toure and Valdes renew their deals and if Henrique and Gai join the team

We can buy Dzeko for 25m euros, and Mata for 20m euros. Sartor for the right back and Filipe for the left back. That is 55m euros.

Why isn't Man Untied going for Ibrahimovic, by the way? Would seem more logical for them. I think it will be Forlan we will get and that would be a huge risk.

The obsession of some with Dzeko is touching, but face it: the guy just isn't ready to deal with the pressure at Barcelona. He could only come as back-up and he's too expensive for that. Nobody has even mentioned him before, so close that option. It's about guys like Ibra, Villa, Forlan and maybe Benzema.

Last year we spend 50 million net (taking into account the sales), ZenI, and this year it's gonna be less, so that 30 million net could well be right. So we should really carefully move. Every move (in and out) should be spot on this summer.

eto'o is very very good. it would be a waste seeing him leave for peanuts! but if he's asking 10m a year, selling is the best solution. Villa, zlatan or forlan are kind of old to pay big fees. Benzema or aguero are better choices. but if i have to choose between the 3 i pick zlatan. because he's a genius. the others are not. Forlan? he had some good seasons but I remember the villareal fans that didn't like him because he missed a lot of chances. and he failed at man u

35 mil will do, for that money we can get Silva for LW and use Titi as CF, being played LW Titi been able to score more than 20+ goals each season. So i say sell him, Samu has lost motivation ;-(

Iopim, this is nonsense. Alot of people have mentioned him, Milan is after him and according to insideknowledge, we are after him too, in addition to old Forlan, Real Madrid-bound Villa and superexpensive Ibra. So Dzeko is the best option, together with a left wing. So we would have good striker coverage with Dzeko, Henry and Bojan.

since the transfer market has gone out of control at the moment, put a asking price of 60 mill on eto'o. every other club is doing it for their key players, we should do the same. if kaka was sold for about 60, then eto'o, who won the treble with barca, would be worth more than him.
yes i am aware he only has 1 year left on his contract, but he is probably the best striker out there and is worth it.

Zenl thats a fantastic idea! Lets buy Ribery for 60 million then offload him right after we buy him to get someone else!

50 mil €.dats a more realistic figure.since inter can sell ibra for 70 mil € why cant we sell a stiker who scored more goals than ibra is ever gonna score.(IBRA IS OVERPRICED).i would prefer dat eto will be more expensive but i fear dat clubs wont buy him bcos of three things.1)contract is gonna expire.2)he's turning 29.3)no one is gonna pay him 10mil a season except city.an offering eto for masch is pure rumour .pep is smarter than that.unless liverpool pays us back 30 mil € then it will be fine.

With the gaylactico spending spree, every top class attacking player's fee has been inflated by a good 15 million. Its a pity that Eto'o won't fetch his true price as his contract is about to end.

I think we should probably negotiate with him and manage a new deal.I feel he'll reduce his wage demand by a million or 2 if the management shows belief in him and want him to remain with the club.We can think about selling him the next year or so.

He'll be gone for ANC and we cant expect the regular 3+Bojan for all the fixtures this year,so we should buy a good back up striker like Dzeko within 20-30 million. No point in chasing Ibra when the greedy Inter wants 70-80 mill for him.

Athul said...

PS:With all the trophies that we are gonna play for,our "back up" striker will probably play as many games as a regular player in most teams

Rory said...

if barca plans to buy a striker, they need to sell eto'o first. if barca bought ibra or dzeko or whomever, eto'o's value would plummet because everyone would know he was going to be sold.

as much as that sucks, it's reality.

Anonymous said...

rory: i think most of us here are now in agreement that Dzeko is the best option, this is the conclusion. So when we get him, he will not be that expensive. around 25m euros.

FC BARCA said...

It would be good if Barça can sell Eto'o for atleast €30 mil and buy David Villa for €40 mil. Villa is class but it looks like he's going to Real Madrid.

Barcaaaa said...

Real Madrid will get Villa. We are probably going to get Forlan.

Exarch said...

Hold Man Utd to ransom since they got some new found wealth. I think the figure should be more than $40m.

Even if we get another striker, Eto doesn't have to leave. We have so many matches next year and he is off to play for his country too!

finally, Christiano Ronaldo walk a way from MU and he went to Real... can you imagine MU without him?
