Transfer Mascherano has become very unlikely

Catalan radio station RAC 1 claims that the transfer of Liverpool defensive midfielder and Argentine international Javier Mascherano (25) has become very unlikely.

Despite the wish of the player to join Barcelona, his entourage would be very pessimistic after the transfer of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid and doesn't think there are a lot of chances for the deal to go through.

They are nevertheless still hoping for a final move by Barcelona that could change everything, although it is believed that only a record bid could re-open the negotiations with the English club. Mascherano would meanwhile already have accepted the fact that he will have to stay at Liverpool.

Good. I don't want us to spend the money on a position we have covered. Chygrynskiy should be our last signing.

i agree w/anony in that we shouldn't spend money on a position in which we're somewhat deep in[toure, busquets, rueda, & marquez(so he's out for two more weeks, so fucking what? the guy is phenomenal...if he were catalan they'd have had a statue of him erected already)] if need be someone can be bought in the winter window.

from what i here about chygrynskiy he's from the same mold as marquez, which is good, but how come nobody has asked whether he'd be able to adapt to a new club/culture/language in such a short time & be able to step up and produce? if hleb, another player from one of the old soviet satellite countries, could not adapt to playing w/barca after being best friends w/fabregas @ arsenal, knowing henry from his time @ that same club, and living in the country for a year, why would chygrynskiy fare any better? he can't even play in the fucking champions league anymore! sure hleb's a dick head but this issue should atleast be taken into consideration, i think :^/

I think Hleb's problem was a decrease in form and that led to a bad attitude. And what you say is right, if we need someone, there's always winter.

you're right...he played well in the beginning of the season, got injured, & then started crying about how dirty the defenders in la liga were :^/ i just think it'd be easier for someone from a latino/hispanic background or someone with a grasp of a romantic language(based on latin) would have a better time transitioning. that's atleast what i'm hoping w/ibrahimovic. hopefully his stay in italy/friendship w/maxwell will do him some good in creating some chemistry w/his new team.

Barca should please do whatever it takes to get Mascherano, and possible Chygrynskiy but most importantly Mascherano....

I know generally most everyone who has a comment to make is conservative, "we dont want to spend like madrid". I agree with you in that going into debt is not the answer, but consider this; the club is selling the land that the miniestadi is occupying for 300 mil correct? The norman foster light up plastic sock for the camp nou is 250 mil, the remaing 50 mil was probably already spent on ibrah and maxwell. Theres certainly an argument for ditching the stadium addition for now and buying the players we deserve with the money(no offense mata). No doubt that if we shelled out the cash for fabregas, mascherano, aguero, ribery etc. winning every competition would be even more of a sure thing. That money could fund every trophy for the next decade. I'm an architecture student and i love norman foster's work but i'm a barca fan for the football not for the venue. Sorry for being kinda off topic.

We drove Babi Alonso's price up by spreading that we want Mascherano. Although it would be ideal to see if Liverpool asks for £50 Million just to see Madrid been dragged deeper into debts.
