Barcelona moving again for Mata

Valencia regional sports paper Superdeporte claims that Barcelona is still trying to sign Valencia left wing attacker and Spanish international Juan Mata (21).

Barcelona would be looking for a left winger and Valencia vice-president Javier Gómez is reported to have last week received a phone call saying that Barcelona Barcelona plans to sign Mata, whose current contract expires in 2012, this summer. Barcelona would nevertheless not have made a formal bid yet.

Valencia is anyhow not willing to sell Mata - unless they get an offer they cannot refuse - and will repeat that message when meeting with the player's father and agent at the end of the week to discuss a contract renewal. Although both parties want to reach an agreement, the player's agent considers the club's last offer of 600 000 euro a year to be ridiculous.

Madrid have just strengthened their midfield with XABI ALONSO..so i guess benitez wont be selling mascherano.

Mata is good, but we have wingers..if we get a winger we shud get sme1 with more experience

i have lost all respect for Valencia how could they keep a vital person in their squad with a youth contract, if you have problems Valencia don't hurt the players because of it. you'll learn once you fail to qualify for cl again.

I think if we bought someone like Mata or Afellay, that would suggest Henry will be relied on as the primary option to Ibra at CF and not so much on the Wing this season. It would not be good news for Gai, that's for sure.

I'd rather wait another year and see if Valencia are more willing to sell Villa next year. He'd be able to play on the wing or the middle.

Is Gai with the 1st team on the US tour??? On the official website they wrote he was with them...but i didnt see him playing against LA galaxy...

gai isnt on the first team..he might play a few games in the season but not a regular..he still needs two more years imo

Gai isn't good enough, and Villa is 29 next year. We can't buy him for 50m next year and then release him for free 3 years later when he is finished. Bad, bad business.

I can't believe Mata is still on a youth contract. He's already played 2 full seasons in the top flight.

Barca should offer him/his parents 1.5-2 million and make Valencia match it. That way he can start pressuring Valencia to release him or risk a Webster soon.

I hate it when people insist that all players must be sold and that they can't be let go for free. When a player serves a club, they should be allowed to go free. Look at Sylvinho. And if you'll remember, we got Henry when he was "old." Villa wouldn't have the bad first year Henry did because it's a league he's used to and he doesn't have the personal problems.

It's not all about business. We're not Madrid, who care only about money and business.

lol i cant believe how much there paying him that sum is a joke he should be making about 3 times as much

Hello!
I doubt if it comes. Valencia asked a very high, as happened with Villa.

Anon: Getting money for the players you sell makes it possible to strengthen the squad. Buying a player which we won't get any money from is extremely expensive. You say we should buy Villa for 50m+20m wages over 3 years=70m for 3 years and then get nothing for him? That would be the most expensive player ever. But I guess we can just throw money at players like we have billions of euros in the bank?

good, talented player, but would prefer silva, as i think their prize would not be very different

i think bringing mata or even silva would be a bad decision when we already have talents in our B team.
gai,jeff,pedro and even rochina.

last year we really wanted Silva...this year we really want Mata...

what happened? I know Silva was hurt for a while but we have lost all interest in him and Barca obviously is completely in love with Mata...

kinda weird.

If we buy this guy or another who's under 25, Gai,Pedro or Jeffren will leave, maybe 2 of them. And that would be a shame.

Why pay money for a ex Madrid player when we got Jeffren and Pedro and soon Gai who can take that position.
Mata is better, yes but only cuz he got more A -squad experience!

Will Jeffren and Pedro get "awarded" for their Ideal patience with a guy who steals theirs place in the A team?

What the fuck man? Nobody is entitled to be "awarded" at Barca or any other professional club for that matter. Just because they were around for a while doesn't mean that the club owes them a starting spot. Buy Mata, and if Gai, Pedro, or Jeffren can't compete with him...too bad for them. That's how life goes...if you are not good enough no matter how long you've been sticking around, you should get the boot! Patience is a virtue trumped by hard work in this case. In other words, who gives a shit if you are patient if you don't work hard enough or don't have the talent.

Luis Enrique was an ex Madrid player...Considering the garbage you just spewed, I bet you don't even know who he is!

Bring in Mata, if Guardiola thinks he is good enough. Plus, I make more than 60k a year. That is a ridiculous sum for a top footballer. I hope Barcelona doesn't become the tool in Mata's father's hands just to get a raise from Valencia.
