There's money for more transfers

Asked if there's still money left to spend this summer, Barcelona economic vice-president Joan Boix has said in an interview with Catalan sports paper Sport that new transfers are possible:

"The club's finances are doing excellent. If Guardiola, or the technical department, asks for more transfers then we'll deal with that. The ultimate proof that Barça has a solid economic base is that we didn't have to make any new debts when signing players this summer."

At first i didnt really want another midfield signing but after seeing how ordinary barca looked without xavi and iniesta running the show i kinda hope we do get cesc. Iniesta can move to the LW giving us some more options up front (right now we look very bare with ibra messi henry only being backed up by bojan and youngsters like pedro gai and jeffren) and cesc can give xavi a rest given the sheer number of games xavi has played and will have to play.

Xavi played the 2007/2008 season reaching the semi finals of the CL and far in the copa del rey then went to euro 2008 and went to the final then playe the 2008/2009 season winning the treble, then off to the confederations cup where he played up to the semi finals and next season we have 6 competitions to travel to/play in and then the world cup and this doesnt even mention the qualifiers he has played for the WC and Euro 2008. Xavi risks getting serious burnout if we dont get somebody who can give him a rest. Against the USA was one of the worst games i ever saw him play and I have to say having cesc who can give xavi a rest from some games as well as play alongside xavi would make me feel a lot better.

excellent points barça4life

i think cesc will be too expensive, considering we need more than 1 reinforcement

i would be very glad with two potential starters and i think these one will do great

DC Chygrinsky (Kompany)
DMC (Masch i'm ruling out) Kompany, Montolivo (he won't come but okay)
AML Mata, Young (why not?!)

of all the players at arsenal, i'd rather have rosicky than cesc, i'm wondering why i don't hear him mentioned here. yes he's been injured and he's old but that may give us some bargaining chips. he can play in the midfield and also LW, has a good shot, can take freekicks, fights & tackles during defense, good vision and speed, and plays smart overall. i really admire his mentality and judgement. but i doubt if wenger will let him go as it'll hurt the depth of his own squad, especially now when narsi is injured(?). but honestly arsenal has maybe too many players for their LW position...

Ashley Young is a traditional winger, keeps himself very close to the side-line and whipsi n crosses... Wouldn't suit for our style of play. We need more of a winger/striker who should be more like just cut_in-shoot. more over Ashley Young is too costly not not worth it guys.
Agree with you on Mata though :)

we should sign 2 more players ,one midfielder and one cb.we can avoid signing a cb by trusting henrique but we still need a midfielder .mascherano and fabregas are the best 2 options.i believe this year is our chance to get fabregas .next year more clubs will have money and it will be more difficult

hmmmm skanjos i didn't yet consider that argument but i agree!

maybe now RM has said they stop buying, we should quickly move for Fabregas. Everyone expects a few big transfers next year (Ribery, Fabregas, Hernanes) and there are all going to show interest. So now is the time to be ahead of schedule!

I also think that Barca should focus on quality instead of quantity. Getting one superstar is more valuable than buying two ordinary squad players who cant carry the team. If we can afford to spend 40 million or so then Cesc should be a priority. He would share the workload and give more attacking options. There is a room for a player like Cesc, for example Messi had 99% injury free season but still he started only 27 La Liga games! By spending 20 million we could get Mata who would be a much better option than Silva because Mata has good goal scoring skills because he used to be a pure striker as a junior.

Chygrynskiy could be a total disaster and Mascherano is not an option anymore. It would be better to buy attacking players anyway. At Anfield Benitez had never sold any of his key players so why on earth he now decided to offload Alonso? He needs money to get Aquilani but still the Alonso deal is a bit controversial considering that Pool has now their golden chance to win finally EPL.

Barca should have sold Hleb who was totally useless but still worth almost 10 million. Now we can only sell Guddy for 5-6M, in addition the team will collect some extra cash by loaning Caceres and Keirrison(who should have stayed)

What about Patrick Vieira? All we need is a cover for Xavi from time to time. He's 33 and is already only used sparingly at Inter last season so he won't mind being benched.

I'm all for Cesc but with Arsenal exorbitant asking price, I don't think we can afford him this time around. We can bid for him next season when he has 1 year left on his contract (tho Arsenal has the option to extend that to 2014) with our summer 2010 transfer budget.

This is also promised by one of our prez contender, Rossel, I think, so I'm sure we'll go all out to get him next transfer season.

eidur should stay...he is not bad at all.cos i tink many midfielders cannot adapt..unless really skills...caceres should mayb go on loan...aniway our transfer season is over...

Vieira is not a cover for Xavi. He would be a cover for Touré maybe. But please, he's no playmaker. And even less at Barça where you have so little time. His feet are far too slow.

gudjohnsen? he's the personification of "no talent", good guy, but you can count his gud moments at one finger.
for me, he has more of a wizard then a good footballer, as he managed to stay that long, everywhere to find, where the ball ain't.
there are more than enough talented midfielders out there, who would fit in barcas game, but the choice should be wisely.
with hleb now also gone, it should not be left only on youth-players

what do you guys think about Jovetic of Fiorentina?

i tihnk he would be greaaaaat

im really against the idea of buying cesc, i always felt he was a bit overhyped by the english media as usual and after watching jonathan dos santos play against los angeles im hell bent we don't need cesc anymore, jonathan is awesome he would become better than cesc in a couple of seasons and this season is more than capable of backing up xavi and iniesta and once xavi retires he and thiago alcatara would take over the reigns...
all you guys who are saying we should get cesc are not analysing anything, do you really think arsenal would let go off their captain who has a contract until 2014, just like that?? i would rather we get chygrynsyiy for CB(he has the potential to be one of the best CB ever) and move marquez to the DM position where he always did exceptionally well...

Chygrynskiy cant play in the champions league so i dont know why we would still try to sign him. Seems not to make sense.

To suggest that with barcelona (going into a season where real madrid are hell bent on winning la liga and the english teams determined to park the bus against us after seeing what chelsea and man utd did last season) should back up xavi with a 19 year old who has never played a la liga game before and an 18 year old who has played 1 la liga game is crazy in my opinion.

This is going to be an extrememly long and difficult season, 6 competitions flying to abu dhabi mid season and having to make up games in january and february when yaya and keita could be gone for the ACN as well as the season being shortened because FIFA demands a rest period before the world cup.

I know we should not focus on Real Madrid but look at their bench They have sneijder (who apparently has been told he has a future at the club) and xabi alonso. They are not better than Xavi but if Xavi goes down I would have to say that they are better than Dos Santos and Thiago.

I'm all for youth players getting a chance but honestly xavi has played 2 consecutive long seasons and during the summers following them. We are playing with fire if we dont get somebody to back him up and reduce his workload.

why kompamy?
i am from bosnia... when belgium play two games whit bosnia they lose both of them. first 4-2, second 2-1.
in that games džeko and misimovic do to kompany what ever they want. every attack from bosnia was goal because kompany and other defenders make big mistakes.

we dont need more CB players. we got a lot of them now. we can promote muniesa. if we gona make another transfer it should be DM or LW.
