Final 22 million offer for Chygrynskiy rejected

Asked about the rumours linking Shakhtar Donetsk defender and Ukrainian international Dmytro Chygrynskiy (22) with a move to Barcelona (read more here), Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov told the club's official media last Friday that the transfer is now definitely off after the club and the player rejected a last offer by Barcelona:

"Chygrynskiy is with Shakhtar and he will stay. I've been in contact with Dima the whole time. The official proposal from Barcelona was the biggest of Ukrainian history: 22 million euro°! But I promised the staff to keep the squad together.

The matter is not that 22 million is too much or too little, or that we ask 25 million... That's not the issue. I had put forward a certain sum for which we could start negotiating. I didn't make a decision immediately after the offer came. I usually do as my heart tells me. In the evening I think one thing, in the morning another one. It seemed good for him to play for Barcelona. And at the same time we would suffer without him. How to make a decision?

I called Dima and said that I tried to put myself in his place: 'Now try to do the same. I will respect your decision. If you tell me to let you go I'll let you go, I'll even accept an offer of 20 million.' Do you know what he answered? Dima said: 'Rinat Leonidovych, I'll never tell you this, because for me this team, these fans, mean a lot. If my departure would be a step back for Shakhtar, I'll refuse.'

The guy didn't put pressure on the club. Dima is a patriot of Donetsk and all our fans. It deserves great respect. I thank him very much as president and as a human being. So I can say that the whole thing has already finished. For me it is finished so I'm calm now. From my side there was no pressure on the player. I could have said that he has a contract and that is that. But I didn't want to play it that way. The most important thing is that he acted as a very noble man."

Seems like we have quite some money to spend after all. 22m euros for a player from the Ukrainian league. Astonishing. Now, let us use those 22m euros on De Rossi instead. A proven Italian international with many years ahead of him and great as a competition for our midfield. What do you say Pep Guardiola?

yes he is a noble man... i like his character now... maybe next year. he is young and he can stay another year at doneszk

De Rossi for 22m?!?! LOL!!!

He'd cost a fortune and even if Roma accepted our bid he'd probably turn us down.

What is wrong with Dimo man!!! Is he afraid to step up to the level of Barca or what!? Can't he see it? He could be the starter for one of the greatest clubs at least for another 4 years. Muniesa would be able to earn his position and dictate the defense only if some how one of Pique & himself loses it and eventually... Sad that he isn't yet ready, the Dimo :( But man what gratitude he's showing to the club that gave him life, if whatever the president said is true. Hat's off dude

I wonder what he would have said had the Shakhtar lost in the qualifier that they played last week which means they wouldn't qualify for champions league next year and he hadn't been a part of the game... Would have been a real test :P

what a joke, who could pay so much for this guy? Eto'o is worth 20M and this guy more than 22?

Big respect, love the mentality!
There is nothing 'wrong' with him, on the contrary... I wish more players act the same.

If a mafia guy like this one says: "You're totally free to leave, it's up to you", that actually means "Your whole family will get a bullet through their head if you dare to leave".

Think this is good news for Muniesa...

That Rinat douche actually didn't leave much of an option for the player, did he? Having featured in a qualifier Chyhrynskiy won't be able to feature in Europe for a year... Hope he waits a year and puts up a transfer request and ends up in Barca only for around 10 million. Would be like a nice smacking for that douche of Rinat

I'm glad they rejected if that bid was tabled. Way too much for a player, especially defender, unproven at the highest levels. Barca can do better for cheaper.

KluivertBoots? Better for cheaper??? Tell us who? Chygrynskij is top 10 central defender in Europe, a fantastic player and only 22! Which player can we buy for less that is better? You tell me and guardiola. Don't tell me you are thinking about Höwedes? Is it Höwedes really the player you have in mind?

Same old story : individuals do NOT count . The system rules . The break up of the Soviet Union did not make any difference . Once a Banana Republic always a Banana Republic !!
