Guardiola asks to give Henrique more time

Asked about the situation of Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22), Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola asked journalists yesterday to give the Brazilian some more time to prove himself:

"Playing as central defender at Barcelona asks something different. That's why I think there's no need to start critizising already but to give players the time they need to adapt."

Note: there has been some heavy criticism in some Catalan media on the performances of Henrique so far.

Worst defender so far, I am very disappointed. I am starting to doubt a bit if this guy is really good enough as we paid for him 2x more then for Pique. He should prove himself in next games and if he fails again, maybe he should be loaned again. This season is just too much important to take a risk with a defender performing so horrible like Henrique so far.

He passed well and was comfortable on the ball. Where he looked uncomfortable was in making his challenges around the box. He gave up the free kick to Becks with a lunging tackle from behind. It was unnecessary because the player he was tracking was moving parallel to goal and was not a clear shooting threat. Reckless foul in a bad area.

I'm not understanding why we allowed Caceres to go already. He seemed willing to work and was young enough to improve, just as Henrique.

there misunderstanding in this quote:""Playing as central defender at Barcelona asks something different". this quote show that henrique doesn't have these qualities, but instead the real quote is:"“Being a centre half in a team like Barca has its own peculiarities".

so guardiola didn't critizied the way henrique play........

Asks something different "compared to other teams", that's the same as what you write. He's asking for more understanding.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan,

That's really bad by the press. Why would you criticize a player that just started playing? It will devastate his confidence.
They are right to say that he has been disappointing so far, but that's because he is so eager to make a good impression. He needs to calm down and stick to the basics of what is being asked of a center back for Barca. He may also perhaps not be a center back, but rather a right back or defensive midfielder.

In any case, we must give him more time to show what he is capable of. I hope he doesn't turn out to be another Caceres case because the Uruguayan is a great talent, he just needed more time to learn our system. A shame he won't make it in our team. He'll be a success at Juventus.

He hasn't been good. But Pique had his dodgy moments in last year's preseason and early in La Liga. It takes more than a couple of weeks for a player to settle into the Barca system and gain comfort with his teammates.

Caceras spent an entire year with Barca. Yet when faced with no other CB options, and weeks to prepare Caceras for the CL final, Pep chose instead to play Yaya in a foreign position. People need to understand that is all you need to know about Caceras' lack of a future at Barca.

His name is Caceres and he will never be good enough for us. Why do we buy these defenders Guardiola? We have to ask Guardiola these questions. A Barcelona defender should be a leader. Has Henrique ever been captain and known for his leadership abilites at previous clubs? Pique is a leader, Puyol is a leader, Marquez is a leader, those are the defenders that succeed with us, and it shouldn't be necessary to point out that the player has to have good technique and passing.

Give the guy a chance. He did very well out on loan and I think he will do very well for Barca this season when needed. Muniesa made mistakes too. Heck, even Puyol and Marquez make mistakes (the first Madrid goal in the 6-2 win, anyone?). It doesn't mean he's a failure if he's not perfect after two games. He'll be a good asset to Barca.
