Vidic confirms Barcelona offer

Asked about rumours earlier this summer linking him with several European top clubs among which Barcelona (read more here), Manchester Untied central defender and Serbian international Nemanja Vidic (27) has confirmed in an interview with British tabloid The Sun that he received an offer from Barcelona but that he will continue in England next season:

"My wife Ana is unhappy with our lifestyle in Manchester but I am not going to change my mind as I am happy with the team and Manchester and the club's ambitions for next season.

I got offers from Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid and I played a very honest game. I disclosed all these offers to my boss Sir Alex. He reacted quickly. I was told he was raising my pay to bring it to the level where my reputation is in the Premier League and Europe.

After Milan and Real Madrid made their offers, Barcelona came in. They wanted to pay 30 millions for my services but after Sir Alex's move, I am definitely staying in Manchester until my contract expires in 2012. People often forget that when you move from one country to another and from one league to another, you have to change your playing style. My style of play is now completely adjusted to the Premier League."

The interesting thing from the article is that his wage was £20,000 per week until all these teams made big offers and his wage was raised to £70,000 per week in response.

I never heard Vidic complain through the media about his £20,000 per week wage. ManU fans never questioned Sir Alex or said that he was 'disrespecting' Vidic.

All I hear from our fans is how Yaya is disrespected even though he made €30,000 per week before he got his raise, Eto'o makes €140,000 per week and all the fans can do is badmouth the club saying Eto'o deserves a raise.

I'm not going into figures to much because we cannot know how much they earn, just this:

For you, nobody deserves a raise, I guess. Let them all play for free! Just this: if almost everybody gets a raise, why wouldn't Eto'o get one?

Vidic clearly used offers from other clubs to get a raise, so don't make him look like a saint either...

James: spot on mate! I think the club management is trying their best to keep to wages as low as possible, and in all justice I cant argue with this kind of approach. Considering the previous economic troubles the club had and the fact that since Laporta took over the rodder these troubles has been solved, I think it's only fair to belive in them and the decisions they make. On the other hand I am not in favour of the last events concerning Eto'o, his manager and the club officials. It is not very professional to talk to media if there is some kind of trouble. These matters should be solved within the walls of Camp Nou, so to speak. Now, the illusion is broken and no one knows what will happen. Sammy is stubborn as a mule and I think he could well play out his contract and leave for free next season (wich I have thought since last summers debacle). Sadly I think the best would be for Eto'o to leave this summer. The trust seems to be broken between him and the club and this will never be solved and will most certainly affect the spirit of the team in a bad way. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems like a bad idea for Eto'o to stick around.

I think it's even less professional to create the trouble by leaking false stuff to your media friends instead of saying things face to face...

very true as quoted by james u say give raise to every buddy by disturbing the pay pattern of the club then from where the hell the money would come if we just go on raising every buddy's pay as we already gave them incentives and bonuses ...and yaya got raise which was within limit since he already was getting less and considering his age same for valdes

etoo is already among the highest paid only messi better than him
even inesta gets less than etoo....p

I'd say: get 1 million from Henry's wage and give it to Eto'o and that's it.

Hm...It has been long of stuff happening lately...

- Yaya contract was extended. No more talks about Bad management. Which was nonsense if you ask me. The board did the right thing from the start till the end. Extended the contract in the right timing that suits the club.

- Keirrison is close to sign. May not be a big name yet, but a very promosing prosoect, which is exactly what we need. If we loan him to Valencia and get Villa, that will be the smartest move made by any team this season. Getting one of the best strikers at the moment to play for barcelona next season and preparing one of the best for the future. Again, credit to the club management.

- I read eto'o Agent interview (Great work pep with the follow up), BUt it is all meaningless. What I am more interested in is his following speech. Because that interview is more preparing the basses (excuses) for what eto'o will do next (which is planned since before). Remind me of Robinho complains before moving to Man City.

I will not discuss all the eto'o nagging at the moment. The Agents could be trusted for at most 5 % of what they say. While the managerial quality of Barcelona board was proven season after another where 95% of their decesions were right. On every level.

So the moment I put an agent credential over the board strategic approach running the team, I know I need some kind of treatment.

Lets belive everything eto'o say then. He said he will not renew till the end of the season. Fine. Now the season ended. He admited that he got a contract extention. He do what suits him best. This is just a job for him )he said it and thats why we believe it). Fair enough. He did his job perfectly and it was for the good of the club. No ,as always, he decides what suits him most and the board do what suits the club most. End of story.

It has been loT of stuff, not long of stuff:)

The board does what the board suits most, Ramzi.

The board is NOT the club, like we all agreed on yesterday. Well, kind of... ;)

hawk_barca_4_life said...

agree with ur comment and good to see u back and supporting the board and i truely agree that wht ever the board does is always in the interest of club .... !!!

trez said...

You probably also supported the Gaspart board when he paid tens of millions for players like Riquelme, Rochemback, Geovanni or Saviola and giving all kind of bonuses to agent sand intermediaries which brought our club on the verge of bankruptcy.

You cannot always support the board and say whet they do is in the interest of the club. That's just not true. Which such blind behavior you damage the club.

The club, that's the fans. The board are just temporary employees. Like the players.

hawk_barca_4_life said...

lolzz if board is not the club than atleast it is the part of the club with the management and the team, coah ... so wht the fan can do is get behind the board to support the club coz they r the ppl who r running it and they know better than us and not criticizing them in time of crises and enjoying during the treble times ...hmm

groga said...

Personally, I'm just critizing one thing here: the way they have handled the Eto'o case. I support almost all other board decisions.

If for you the board is without any fault and you think they did a great job with Eto'o, that's your right. I think they messed up so terribly and damaged the club's image in the world by their way of acting.

hawk_barca_4_life said...

that is correct a big club like barca shld not allow such thing to occur like the etoo incidence ...but in most cases it is the agent who cr8 this ...!!!
i am a great fan of etoo just bought a new jersey of his name
but still want him to go if guardiola wants it

Ramzi said...

trez, I support this board especially because they are anti Gaspart. The old board would have offered nonsense pay raises to keep everyone happy, for a while. And the club would have kept digging down.

This board does the right thing, not the popular thing. Fans will not like it. As long as the team win they will have only weak reasons to revolt. The moment the club lose (and the club will eventually lose) the fans will jump with their daggers in hands. Thats only a matter of time.

I support this board because they fixed the Gaspart mess. They cleared the dept. They brought back the club from being competetive on their position in the liga invain to winning doubles and trebles. With doubled fan base (though it has the side effect that some may only know what is happening now and not how it was before).

So if the majority of things proved being right (including the Eto'o case), I have no reason not to support the board. The board is not the club, but they now better than anyone else how to run it. As they proved since they were elected.

Till the moment I cant see any foul they made this summer. Not based on emotions, but based on Organization Management Alphabets.

The best thing about the Laportas is that they do what they feel right. Thats all what I can demand. NOt they will do mistakes but it will keep being less than it will be if they were colorless and tasteless. Just moving with the wind of romurs, and the pressure of fans moody reactions.

But thats only me.

just was report dont know if it is true but lyon have agreed fee of 35m for benzema and only the players dicission is remaining
then i dont think the total valve of villa shd be more than 40m
would have liked him to join us but i feel keirrison will be much better and suit us more

Ramzi said...

Me and my spellings...No well, catch you later.

trez said...

"trez, I support this board especially because they are anti Gaspart."

When they came to power, they said they would investigate what had happened in the Gaspart era but in the end they did nothing, remind you...

"The old board would have offered nonsense pay raises to keep everyone happy, for a while. And the club would have kept digging down."

Laporta is also not the toughest negotiatior there. Remember Xavi. They were negotiating for months, Txiki holds his position and suddenly Laporta comes in and gives Xavi everything he wants. Same happned with Valdes apparently.

So you didn't support the Gaspart board, Ramzi? Good to hear, so the "always support the board because they're the club and they always do what's best for the club" argument is from the table once and for all!

It's not about supporting the board or objecting the board. You should look at it action by action. There I support hem, there they're mistaken so I don't. They messed up with Eto'o, I can be critical. I in fact have to be critical.

You cannot say: they did 95 per cent right, so I agree with the msitakes too. If Laporta now picks up a commission of 5 million in Uzbekistan, we're not going to be critical? That's not the attitude that helps the club.

If you don't find arguments anymore, then you start attacking the person saying things like "you're not a real fan" or insulting.

Weak positioning, guys... Just give arguments, then we can discuss.

Did I make one bad comment about the club or board except for the Eto'o case? No. Case closed.

If you think the board is doing great here, fine by me. I think they've messed up and damaged the club's image in the world by not threating a player correctly.

Groga is a dude who has his own mind. he speaks with Love and passion for Barca. He was here before the "sudden supporters". cos these names are new names, but groga has been here for a while. You guys are making it seem the board can never be wrong. Nobody is perfect. They gave Eto the chance to "shame the club". If they dealt with these on time, it wouldnt have gotten this bad. You have called Eto a ticking time bomb, so you think the Barca board are a genius for allowing a "ticking time bomb" explode in their faces, I call that DUMB without regrets

NouBarca said...

And how much do you think we would pay Mascherano IF we get him? He is on £30K/week.. but y'all would love it if we paid him £80K/week..

Anonymous said...

Yup! I followed Groga's posts for quite a while. His points make sense. I agree some, and I disagree some. No harms done.

One thing for sure, Board can be prone to blunders.

That's why "check and balance" is important. Of course, in civilise and respectful manner.
