Both main Catalan sports papers Sport and El Mundo Deportivo claim that the renewal of Barcelona central defender and Spanish international Carles Puyol (31), whose current contract expires next summer, could be closed at the end of this week.
Barcelona officials would have met last week with Ramón Sostres, the player's agent, offering Puyol an extension for two more years, until 2012. Sostres would this week discuss the proposal with the player, who has returned from the Confederations Cup.
Sport claims that Puyol will maintain the same fixed salary, while the incentives will be increased, especially those based on the number of games played. El Mundo Deportivo, that says that the deal will at the latest be signed at the beginning of this week, claims that the Catalan defender would keep the same salary. Only the incentives based on trophies won would be changed.
