Eto'o to sign for Manchester City next week

British tabloid News of the World claims that Manchester City have completed the transfer of Barcelona forward and cameroon inernational Samuel Eto'o (28).

Barcelona would receive a transfer fee of 29,5 million euro°, while Eto'o would earn a year salary of 9 million euro net, with further bonuses tied to success. The Cameroonian is expected to travel to Manchester in the next few days to finalise the deal.

A source close to the deal is quoted as saying: "The player could have earned similar money at Barca. But Eto'o and his people think City could be going places and is excited by the type of players they are attracting."

British tabloid The Daily Mirror nevertheless claims that a delegation from Manchester City met with Barcelona officials last week. The English Premier League club, who has been encouraged by Barcelona to make a move for Eto'o, is nevertheless not at all willing to pay the asking price of 47 million euro°, which is the double of what Manchester City has in mind.

Catalan sports paper Sport on the other hand claims that Eto'o, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2010, is not willing to move first and is waiting for Barcelona to offer him a renewal like the club has been announcing. The initial plan of the player is to start the pre-season with Barcelona.

Now signing David Villa is a must.

SJP said...

cantsee board offerin him a new contract now, will really miss etoo if he goes, one of my favourite ever strikers.
agree that if he goes we need to get villa but they neeed to keep the price reasonable, we are not RM we dont pay excessive prices for average players, a bid of around 40mil, max 45 should be sufficient for a top quality striker like villa.

trez said...

why don't they just offer him a renewal? cheapest and most certain offer. hope valencia just says a final 'no' to a villa exit, then barça will be forced to offer him a renewal!

i prefer barca having no first striker than have etoo another season sorry samu but it's time to go thanks for everything you've done.
we should go for ibra now !
david villa is too similar to etoo

Will have to wait and see if this is concrete. What ever happened to the Adebayor interest,he's young, skillful, good in the air,I think he would fit in quite well.

i love this guy and it makes me sad watching him making his way out of the club. if he is really that into money than there you go samuel..:(

in case he is gone i would love to see villa in barca´s kit. he is one hell of a striker. i would also like barca to finalize the transfer of Keirrison cuz being the youngest best goalscorer in brazilian league is pure class. moreover the guy is quite tall for a footballer (i believe 182cm) with good heading so he would be a great great great addition to our team that lacks height (not that it really matters - look at our success this season haha) even though he would be loaned out for a season.

thats when you know its bullshit, news of the world i ask you. never rely on english tabloids for la liga news or transfers.

I agree anurag I live in ireland and read this shit one time it said barca made an offer for ronaldo with messi and 20m that was last month when messi is better than ronaldo what bullshit. But I kind of agree with this because alot of other web sites say the same a lamporta kind of told us in the transfer interview

i hope barca goes for zlatan so we can bring another type of cf to barca.
villa plays the same way as eto'o

please barca don't let zlatan slip away to madrid.

i think the barca staff don't know how to buy players. they have a lack of experience

groga said...

Stop complaining. We've won the trzble so saying the club don't know how to buy players is ridiculous. We just don't spend more than we have, that's the philosophy of the club. And Zlatan is impossible so stop thinking about it otherwise you'll only get depressed. Which some apparently already are...

NC4Barca said...

If Eto is not satisfied with what he gets in FCB, then he can leave.

I hope Villa joins Barca now, as we need a marksman whom Xavi describes as a person who bleeds goal!! But I really doubt whether he will be a striker who can break EPL walls, like what Cheslea did to us at Camp.

NC4Barca said...

We are not Madshit and we wont pay 80 mn pound for a single player. If we did, then I will say that is the most foolish act barca would ever do. And if either Inter or Ibra dreams of any such act from Barca, I would be happy to stick with whatever we have. Ultimately, money doesnt win you trophies for sure. I think, our best option will be Villa.

barca4life said...

How can you say we wont pay 80 mill for a player when we are in effect about to offer valencia 70 million in cash and players for villa?

pep said...

47 million euro =

66 million us dollar
40 million british pound

trez said...

We won't pay 70 million. It's 40 million + two loans. If Caceres goes permanently that the cash will drop. We don't have the cash to pay 70.

Brandon FCB said...

How can you guys say that Villa is like Eto'o so you don't want him, ETO'O SCORED 30 GOALS THIS SEASON! That's a little less than double of what the 90m RonalDOG scored this season. Not sure why he costs only 30m though, if the rest of the best are around 50m.

If Forlan wasn't raping every team that came bye in the last few games, he would have been the Golden Boot. But I think Villa is a better finisher than Eto'o. I love Eto'o, but I think Villa has that sniper kind of precision which lets him be just better than the rest of the best strikers in the world. I think we shouldn't worry about paying 25m for Mascherano when we don't need him, and spend a Max of 50m for Villa. Make Villa the priority, and than decide what to do.

barca4life said...

trez the point i am making is that we had to spend another 30 million to get players just to loan out to valencia. hence the total of 40 mill for villa + 30 mill for other players. Essentially we had to outlay 70 million dollars in cash to get villa. Maybe not all at once or maybe not spend 70 mill, but we needed to take 70 mill out of the bank pay that for players and then use those players to get villa.

And like i said in another post, if keirrison was to fail on loan at valencia we would have to sell him for not very much and would have essentially paid 16 million euros for a player that never even played for barcelona.

groga said...

Caceres was last year, so that doesn't have anything to do with this year's cash...

skanjos said...

keep eto ,keep keirrison get a lb and a midfielder ,guddy out ,hleb whatever and we are ready to go......

dont spend 70mill,or even 50 and 2 loans for villa its to much .he is 29y this year 30mil should be his price....

Anonymous said...

If Eto'o is lazy then Zlatan is asleep every time he plays. I don't remember one game when Eto'o didn't run more than Zlatan. He has bad finishing but is good in everything else.

Anonymous said...

Barcelona has enough players to dribble and assist. It would be best to just sell Eto'o and use 10m to buy a Striker that is only good at goal poaching and finishing. Keirrison is prefect but Barca wants to loan him out to get Villa. For me thats stupid. We need the money for more important positions.

Caribbean Hotspot said...

All u disgruntle son of a beaches thats barshing eto he helped us 2 champions leagues and last year when we had to qualify for the champions league he was the one that scored. if barca let Eto go mark my word we will repeat the 06' season we had. If valencia is selling villa it will be too much asking price for barca to buy and same as zil from milan so at the end of the day either we settle with no striker or a lazy striker.

NC4Barca said...

Thanks Pep for clarifying its 40 million pound. CRy went to RM for 80mn Pound = 96mn Euro = 120mn USD. Thats crazy money only god knows where Perez is getting from.

Eto's market value is 60 million euro, but the fact that his contract with Barca expires in 2010, this value just halves. And today i read in an article that Eto is planning to stay this year and will go for free next year. In that case, the buyer club doesnt even have to pay the 30 mn they have to pay this year. In that case, Eto can negotiate for a higher annual salary like around 11 to 12 mn Euro a year. All this is happening because FCB is not renewing his contract. I think instead of paying Ibra that kind of amount, it would be better if we renew Eto and/or buy Villa. Pep will take care of the rest. Hope we will win quintiple next season!! Wow that will be awesome!!!

NC4Barca said...

BTW, I dont know anything about Zalatan, but one thing I know is Eto's work rate is really appreciative. The fact that he received third highest number of yellow cards in all tournaments, even more than some of our defenders along with another fact that he came runner up in goal scorer's list in La Liga is something none of us can forget. He runs alot and he is a hard worker. He always want to prove others they are wrong. And I like that attitude, as long as he keeps scoring goals for FCB and help us winning. I wish FCB renews Eto.

Maybe we should buy Katlego Mphela from Sfouth Africa..... Is everyone watching this?! woah... lol

NouBarca said...

How ungreatful can you guys get? It all sounds like last summer when he was told to go. He stayed, scored aqnd worked hard, yet you call him lazy. Lets be greatful for what he has given us. ANd hes going to leave for £25M. thats a great favour. And I am not sure if we offered him a renewal. For all calling for Zlatan, how much would he cost, how much would he earn per week

buj said...

I thought Barca valued eto'o at 60mil. Though I don't expect Barca to get that much for a player with only 1 year left but we should get alot more than 30mil, maybe around 40-45mil.

This just shows Barca's board ineptness at doing transfers. Eto'o was waiting for a contract renewal offer, yet Barca was already offering him to other clubs. It like saying we don't value his services anymore and yet expecting people to pay prime prices for him.

Maybe Barca is not a selling club but at least take advantage of other club billion dollars windfall. MC wants glory and to do that overnight they need star players from other teams, so why not let them beg for eto'o so we can jack up the price as much as we want. I bet even if we put a ridiculous 100mil price tag they'll be interested just so can be labelled as one of the top teams of europe (dream on MC) next season.

Blogger Amir and shanewhitehouse u guys need to get ban from this blog because u guys aren't true barca funs or u probably not a freakin barca fun. You guys say words from your asses and can't get your facts straight. First You need to look at Eto career and tell me if I'm missing something here. The guy is work horse and barca will miss a great player if he go to Manchester City. Eto is Can't be replaced by Villa or Zilan. That's my piece Take it like you fake barca funs want.

Marc4barca said...

lol look at all of you argue over this again and again and again no one will ever be on the same terms so why constantly talk on the zlatan eto villa topic, why type so much facts or opinions when others won't acknowledge them. let's face it all we can do is talk, the people who have the say in it is barcelona and whatever they choose i'm down with it although i think they might be a better option. i don't think they are any fake barca fans here just some who see football beyond barcelona ones who don't like players just because they play for the the barca team and then they are others who are some what die hard fans to claim they have the best players in every position and there is nothing wrong with that, that's why i could no longer argue with B4L or kamikaze. i read some comments and get angry especially ones against zlatan but now i don't really care all that I care about now is who i like and not care what others say. A true barca fan isn't one who knows alot about the team, it isn't one who was here long nor is it one who watches every single game, anyone can do that, the true barca fan are the ones who put everything aside to co-exist with other fans even if you despise them and right now that's not everyone is doing. what everyone is doing is arguing over every single detail that shows up on the blog and then name calling and loyalty questioning comes in. i'm sure we can all have simple nice discussion rather than berate any and everyone who hates the player you like, laugh about it or ignore it.

I value zlatan way above eto and i got my reasons but if eto stays so be it as long as he continues to score and not fall off. i know it may seem i'm trying to be the smart one and tell everyone what do to do but i'm just trying to help pep who since the beginning of the transfer season was trying to calm everyone down. i know no one wants rules to be put up which can lead to you getting ban for a couple of days or maybe months so it's best to keep everything professional.

Kxevin said...

Let's all calm down about this Eto'o business, and wait to see. He isn't a lazy player by any stretch of the imagination. His work rate and effort are phenomenal. Can't take that away from him.

I think that what some people mean by saying that Villa is the same as Eto'o without the strength and work rate, is that you still don't gain the Plan B attacking option against teams that want to park the bus. Villa is class, Eto'o is class.

And as I understand it, the chronology, lest anyone accuse the club of starting all of this, is:

1) club wanted to sell Eto'o along with Ronaldinho and Deco.

2) Eto'o dug in his heels, scuppered all possible deals and proved himself to Guardiola.

3) Club wanted to renew him during the season, Eto'o said that contract stuff would be a distraction, let's wait until season's end.

4) Season's end came around and the club made the right noises, with everybody and their mamas saying "boy, we sure would love Eto'o to stay." Not a word from Eto'o about staying, however.

Now, for my controversial view: Eto'o is overvalued, but his valuation makes sense in the context of the crazy transfer market. If we can find somebody stupid enough to give us 30m for a player in the very last year of his contract, we should take it and run, giggling, to the bank.

If Eto'o wanted to stay with the club, he's had ample opportunity to make that happen. He knew we weren't going to pay him 10m per season.

If he goes to Citeh, I will wish him all the best, because it isn't as if we're ever going to see him facing off against us in Champions League action, right? He might become another Torres, or another Dani Guiza. Who knows?

But as Marc4Barca said, let's all discuss it rationally. It isn't a question of who is a fan, who isn't a fan or whatever. It's all about what's best for Barca, and people who are making those decisions know a hell of a lot more than any of us.

groga said...

Eto'o has repeated several times he want to stay, Kxevin. In fact, every time he was asked for it he said it. His agent also repeated it.

I think the club had ample time to make it happen but they're the ones who are not moving. Not one concrete offer. And the supposed crazy money Eto'o is asking for is just a lame excuse. Xavi also asked crazy money at the start, Valdes too, but that's the way it goes in negotiations.

Let's just hope that Valencia keeps Villa and that would mean Barcelona will kind of be forced to sit around the table with Eto'o since Villa seems the only option left. Maybe Forlan, but that would be a lot of money for a 30-year old.

ochtane7 said...

Well I guess caribbean hotspot said it for me,can't believe the negative comments eto'o receives.Again, though what about Adebayor.
Hey by the way,Carib Hotspot, which part are you from, wondering if your close to me.

Everytime it relates to the possible transfer of Samuel, I have continued to make one point clear that seems ever so relevant to the success of a team. In my line of work we know that inorder to win back to back titles, you need the core players in the previous campaign in place inorder to create a backbone for future efforts. All that is left to do is to reforce the team with players that share core values with the team and no one else inorder to continue stability and renew vigor. Go contrary to this and you will disrupt the core values of purpose in the team that would show eminence from their first match. Going least to this would expose a team low in vigor to achieving their goals. Samuel should be kept by all costs, not because I want him to stay but because he now represents a core value that a team of this caliber cannot afford to miss. Mark my words : No quick transfer in this transfer window would plug that hole, no matter how early the transfer is performed. This is simply team dynamics.

Kxevin said...

Eto'o has paid lip service to wanting to stay, groga, but he hasn't said it with his actions, as in "Let's sit down and hammer out a deal." If he wanted to stay, this should have already been done.

The sticking point is money. Eto'o wants a lot of it. I don't blame him. Prime earning years for a striker are few. But we have a history of not re-signing players at any cost. And if you pay Eto'o 10 million, what would you pay Messi, Xavi (who just signed a new deal) and Iniesta? A contract such as that can upset the balance of an entire team.

Frankly, I don't think he wants to stay, and I don't think that the club want him to stay.

Pursuant to the suggestion of Anonymous that team dynamics always be considered, don't forget that if Eto'o leaves, he will be the only significant departure. But the core: Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Valdes, Yaya, etc is intact.

Anonymous said...

40 million + two loans for Villa?? We could easily get Fernando Torres with that amount of money.

Oh! Wait a minute.. That was before Regime Madrid blew transfer market with that Sissyano.. Oh well.. Nevermind..

As for us.. No matter who leaves or stays, we marching on.

groga said...

You're just turning the situation around and blaming Eto'o for the non-renewal, while it's the club who wants him out and don't want to even talk about a renewal.

Eto'o has said he waits for an offer and that's the way it goes: if the clubs wants to rene, they invite you and make an offer, you make a coutner-offer and you see if you can find each ohter in the middle. Eto'o is still waiting for the invitation...
