Club waiting for reply Eto'o to renewal offer

Barcelona has put out an official statement confirming that they've offered Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28) a contract renewal and that the club is now waiting for his response (read more here).

The statement on the club's official website reads as follows: "FC Barcelona are awaiting a response from Samuel Eto'o to their offer of a two-year contract extension. The contract would give the Cameroon striker two more years at the club, whilst maintaining the same salary.

The club made the offer yesterday evening once the player's agent had made clear Eto'o's desire to stay at the Nou Camp. If he accepts the new deal, Eto'o's contract will run until June 30th 2012. In a press conference held earlier today, Eto'o's agent Josep Maria Mesalles [confirmed] that Eto'o had been informed of the club's new offer by phone, but that he wished to consult with him in person before giving a public response."

Barcelona board member Xavier Sala i Martín meanwhile said in an interview with Catalan radio station RAC 1 that the club will sign a centre forward this summer: "If Samuel accepts the renewal offer, the whole club will be very happy. But no matter if Eto'o stays or not, we are anyhow going to strengthen the centre forward position because Samuel, like Keita and Touré, will go to the Africa Cup half-way the season and we need to have a striker for those weeks."

hey guys stop being all stupid. let's not bring racist things in this wonderful blog. eto'o if you leave you will always stay in my heart. if you stay you're welcome. before all of this, we must hear from guardiola, after all he's the coach... let's be thankful for a great lion; remember this quote; madrid cabron saluda el campeon...

it's clear barca need a striker whether eto'o stays r not

pep i have a question for you.is there any female football squad in fc barcelona??

Rory said...

i'm liking the idea of eto'o as primary striker (renewed, of course) with Kierreson as the #2 option/replacement during the african cup. Kierreson could become the next striker for barca, while bojan replaces Henry at LW. Gai can rotate in.

for a relatively quiet summer in terms of actual transfers, the team looks loaded for the present and future.

but that all hinges on eto'o staying and being appeased (and calming his agent down). otherwise, we better get Villa and Kierreson on loan means Pedro takes Kierreson's spot. not ideal, but pep trusts in Pedro and i trust in pep.

henry or bojan can play cf when eto'o is gone but what about LW?????!!!??!??!??!

i'm very very sad because laporta obviously lied to us all the time. the message "Club waiting for reply Eto'o to renewal offer" means, it's the FIRST offer for eto'o. the nice picture of barca 2008/2009 changed in mind. it's destroyed.

i love barca but the way they deal with eto'o after all he did for us gives me the shits! the first important thing is the relation to the persons and the way they deal with each other and then the sport as a game. the order is clear for me.

if that's true, laporta sucks!!!

In fact there is, udita. You have any ambition?

I dont want etoo to stay anymore. Too much trouble. I'm sick of all the drama and I think laporta and Guardiola should end this constant dressing room distraction.

indomptablelléo said...

laporta doesn't suck,
he just wants to get rid of eto'o but he should have told him this in the face. i think theyre doing this so that later they tell eto'o its you who did not accept our offer...

Forza Laporta, the man that brought us the most succesful period in our history 2 european cups 3 league titles 1 copa del rey and 2 super cups. You have support Laporta. Dont back down.

women's football team haha. all that is needed to make women's football popular is to have them wear short pants and a small tight shirt with no socks and some baby oil lol and men's soccer will become obsolete, everyone will be a winner cause we all got what we came to see except for the women if they aren't lesbians.

Its the real me, what more proof do you need? I love Bojan i dont want him to leave, I dont want us to buy any young players for our wings because we have gai (18) and bojan (18 to turn 19 in august) soon and i created the "what a difference a year makes" video, as well as wrote the u-17 article with christian valle martin montoya marc muniesa and merida.

Still dont believe? I'll tell you something only the real barca4life would know. Look out for a video on the coming days titled "Ballon d'OR 09"

I am fed up with the etoo situation though. Apparently his agent said that he doesnt want to sign because he is afraid if he signs barca will sell him after he signs.

Marc4barca said...

lol it's surprising you call for eto's exist all of a sudden after defending him for quite a long time so i thought someone else just used your name. it's best to use an account and i think everyone should so we can avoid identity theft.

barca4life said...

Yeah i know, i defended etoo to the max and in the live coverage this morning i apologized to those that wanted him out. I was wrong. Etoo is a ticking time bomb in the dressing room waiting to go off. Its clear he doesnt want to sign the renewal and its payback for last season.

NC4Barca said...

I hope Eto renews, even though I felt really hurt and sad after reading the press comments given by his agent. I dont know what to think, what to believe, but I hope whatever happens, it turns out to be good for Barca. I think today's press conference was one of the rare, sadest days a Cule would have to go through in the past 1 year.

FloPerezIsAD*ckAndMadridL*ckHisB*lls said...

As much as i am a proud cule - somehow we manage to screw over our players. The manner in which we treat our players at times is shameful. After all Samu has done for us we should've treated him with more respect. It's very simple if we wanted to cash on him - just say so. I feel misled. We are Barcelona not stanky ass Madrid - we should be above such an approach.

buj said...

I too think that Barca is buying some room for maneuver with the 2 yrs extension.

1) It will fall on the new board members next year to deal with, whether to sell or not. Personally, I'm all for sell after next season whether or not he has got a good season.

2) By that time the transfer market may/will have cool down so any targeted CF to replace him will be within reasonable price with Eto'o as barter or within his price range.

KluivertsBoots said...

He has offers on the table. We will see which one he signs. It's business. Barca won't sign an aging striker to a mega deal. Eto'o has two (three at most) top level years left, so I see nothing wrong with Barca's offer.

I don't want to see Samu play the disrespect card. This is business.

NC4Barca said...

I have been a staunch supporter of Eto, even after hearing what his agent say today...even though, he said alot to tarnish the image of FCB, i notice that he also said that Eto loves Barca and still wants to continue at Barcelona. If he said that with some truth in it, he should sign the new contract. But if he does not, then i will be forced to swallow my words and will loose all my respect i had for him till now. I know its business as usual and whatever a player says means nothing (even to himself), mainly coz of the experience I had listening to players like Kaka and Ronaldo, how much they love their old clubs and that they are staying with AC and MU rspectively..finally it turned out to be Bull****. So i believe, anything can happen in transfer window..that sucks!! Lets see if Eto also belongs that group!!

Anonymous said...

The board clearly has no strategy. First they wait for years to offer him a renewal, then it comes at midnight (forced by the events) and now they want an answer in a wink. That's hardly profesional behaviour...

NouBarca said...

So, in other words, you want Eto to sign a renewal on same salary? LOL.. I am glad you all ove Barca. I am stunnd. you would advocate for Messi pay rise at 32.. but you would defend that by saying he is a cule. But dont be stunned if he says he wants to end his career in argentina. But since it would be Messi, there would be nothing wrong it that. Eto is a seel out cos he said he loves Mallorca.

Why is everyone given pay rise but Eto? He was the weakest link last summer?

trez said...

Let's hope the offer is the start of a sensible negotiation.

I guess, if it's the same salary it should be for more years, two is too little then. Or they offer him a rise, or they give him more years. By acceptin he would anyhow show his good will, cause he can earn a lot more at City this summer and certainly next summer.

NC4Barca said...

Hey, any idea how much Henry got as Pay rise? Coz Henry and Eto are second highest paid players in the team..PLease correct me if I am wrong!! TIA

refter said...

I think Henry is already very happy with what he's getting, no club could match that. He will just pick up his salayy the next two years and leave for free then.

Caribbean Hotspot said...

come on Barca You can do better than that a guy that has given his all to club if you want to renew his contract give him a little more,,,,,,Barca I don't like the way they treat some of their stars. Eto wants to stay come on Barca.....

Anonymous said...

Messi makes 8.4. So technically Barcelona could decide to give Eto'o a raise from 7.5 up to anything below 8.4, say 8.0m annually. I don't know how likely that is now given the turn of events, but his agent could always counter offer to 8m. I don't think that would be an unreasonable request, even though that would make him the second highest player above Henry and Xavi.

@Barca4Life:
"Yeah i know, i defended etoo to the max and in the live coverage this morning i apologized to those that wanted him out. I was wrong. Etoo is a ticking time bomb in the dressing room waiting to go off. "

How can you tell that from the events of the last few days?

If it was you being treated in this shitty manner, how would you fell, after delivering the treble ( lets not kid ourselves, Etoo played a big part in getting the treble this year ) ?

The reason Etto snapped last season was when some players ( Read Roanldinho, Deco) were being given preferential treatment to train when they want, train alone when they feel like it, e.t.c the last straw was when Etoo was asked to play for only one remaining minute when he had not recovered fully from injury and when he pointed that out, the coach told reporters that he refused to play...

Is this the treatment a club of Barca's standing gives to their stars?

would it be different if Etoo was Catalan?

Anonymous said...

No it would not be different if Eto'o was Catalan.

Those guys (Deco, Ronaldinho) who got 'preferential treatment' were shipped out...Pep Guardiola wanted a new attitude at the club. If you believe all the stuff about the club 'mistreating' Eto'o then why not believe all the stuff about Eto'o's weird behavior?

trez said...

And why not believe his team-mates (Xavi, Puyol, pique all this week) who all say renewing Eto'o should be the priority...

skanjos said...

"would it be different if Etoo was Catalan?"

hell yeah,i dont get it but if a player is homegrown or spanish he is getting a get out of jail card in our club.i bet if villa wasnt spanish he wouldnt be our priority now.....

i dont care about nationalities,i am not a racist.as long as a player is good and behaves well i dont care, eto is one of the most hard working/title hungry and kind player in the squad.so what if we give eto 8mil a year?first he deserves it ,2nd it still will be 30millions cheaper than villa and he is younger too(oh i forgot villa is spanish......).
also i would prefer this money to go to eto rather than henry or yaya or valdes, eto is always helping people and is making football academies all over africa,he is a great person.

in case you wonder i am not african i am greek.i defend eto cause the board threw alot of shit to him like they did with r10 and rivaldo. i wonder who is next messi?

Nisse said...

Well, he should clearly earn more than Henry. It's embarrassing that they both get the same. Then of course Xavi and Iniesta should get more too, but it's sick how people could be against Eto'o not being satisfied with a smaller contract after what he has done. A contract with the same salary is also almost a joke - he stayed like a hero despite everybody being against him and scored the most goals and gave us the CL. If he doesn't even get a rise after this season, when's the time? He has had the same money for years and has come back from injuries faster than expected to score goals for our club. He has probably the best scoring ratio in Europe the latest 3 years!

And to you that think he causes problems - Every time he has reacted against something, he has been right, I love him because of that - when he sees that something is wrong, he reacts. And one thing is clear, he's not the one who is false here and trying to cheat anyone, he is very honest, and I understand him if he feels badly treated after what he's done for this club.

Let's just hope whoever on the board who wants him gone can go and hide somewhere, and let the ones who understand what Eto'o has done for us give him a good contract - for he is the perfect striker for FC Barcelona.

Xaviniesta said...

before we all go overboard with contempt for the club and the board with their supposed shabby treatment of etoo lets consider one thing: in the way they are handling this matter are the club officials and mgt/board answerable to anyone? yes for any action they make these ppl are answerable to the club, all the socios and the fans. how about mesalles is he answerable to anyone? yes he is, to his client etoo and to himself. so who do you think is more compelled to act more responsibly between the 2? and who can more freely play tricks on whom?

I'm glad you guys aren't running FC Barcelona. If you were giving out contracts the club would have collapsed into debt like int he Gaspart era.

Milan wanted to sell Kaka this year, they tried to sell him twice. Kaka never once came out to badmouth the club. He came out publically and said he wanted to stay many times. I've never heard Eto'o come out once and say he wanted to renew. He said he wanted to play out his contract. That option is bad for Barcelona and unacceptable.

Why is it embarrassing that Henry makes the same as Eto'o? Salaries are based on many factors. Henry came to the club as an all time legend, a globally recognized name, that's why his salary is so high. Eto'o may be as good of a striker but he doesn't have quite the publicity outside of Spain. That's why Xavi/Iniesta only made 5 million last year, because they had very little publicity too. Things change, that's why Xavi got a raise and Iniesta will get a raise. Eto'o however, already makes a wage that puts him at the top of the wage chart just below Messi, that's why he can't get much of a raise.

You guys keep badmouthing the club about the renewal. How come Eto'o kept saying he won't renew until the season ended? How come Eto'o hasn't said a word about renewing at the club since the season ended? How come every time his agent puts out a quote it's 'we want to continue' but not 'we want to renew'?

The club hasn't treated him well but he hasn't wanted to stay either.

Nisse said...

OMFG:

He is not as good a striker as Henry, he is twice the player - at minimum. And what he has done for the club is almost more than anyone else in the 21 century, scoring in 2 finals, and never hiding when things went bad. Running like an idiot every game and scoring.

Kaka said as little about a renewal as Eto'o, it's not their business to come up with contract offers - just respect their contract, which Eto'o has done with 100 % and if Mesalles claims are true - FCB clearly has not.

He did not want to talk about contracts in the middle of the season because he wanted to focus on the games, and also I believe show the club what he is worth - which noone can say he didn't do.

I don't give much about the rumours about him wanting "revenge on the club" and leave for free, anyone who knows how Eto'o behaves would know he is not that kind of person.

Nisse said...

After showing the club what he's worth and expecting a contract renewal at the end of the season - he clearly didn't think he would be offered a salary cut. It's fucking unbelievable if you ask me, a disgrace. And not to talk about the SMS - fucking laughable.

I have really loved the way Laporta has handled the club - in every way and ever since he joined - even in the bad times, but this makes me think. Eto'o deserves so much more.

Anonymous said...

Your defense for Eto'o is basically like everyone's defense for Eto'o. "I know him and he's not like that" Yeah ok, good luck with that. I guess his agent won the PR war because you believe his side even though it belies the evidence.

Kaka didn't come out to badmouth the team when the team wanted to force him out. He came out and pledged himself to the team. Eto'o has never come out to say "I would renew".

What part of this salary thing don't you understand? It's not about how good you are RIGHT NOW. It's about how good you were when you signed you contract, how marketable you are, how you fit into the wage scale. WHEN Henry came to us, he was an English LEGEND. That's why he was tied for the highest paid player with Eto'o. Eto'o was the highest paid because he was the BEST striker on our team, a glamor position, that's why he made more than Xavi, Puyol, Deco. How is that so hard to understand. Messi is now the undisputed star and global marketing machine. That's why he has to be the highest paid player on the team. Eto'o can make in the tier below Messi (8.4m). But because Eto'o's last contract was already negotiated to such a high amount (7.5m) there is little room to give him a raise without upsetting the club wage hierarchy.

Get it? It doesn't matter how much Henry makes and how much better Eto'o is. Was Eto'o 1.5 times as good as Xavi, Puyol, and twice the player Iniesta was over the past 2-3 years? If not then why did he make way more than Xavi, Iniesta and Puyol? Are you going to claim that the club was 'racist' against Catalans too? No, it was because Eto'o played a glamor position that scored goals so he got paid more. Now things have changed, people recognize players like Xavi and Iniesta more, so they get raises. Eto'o was already recognized as one of the best on the team, so it's hard to justify him getting even more of a raise considering he's the HIGHEST PAID player outside of Messi.

Anonymous said...

The club's mistake is giving Eto'o too much money on his last contract. IF his last contract was 4 million and the club offered 7.5 million this time you guys would all be against Eto'o if he refused to sign for 7.5m calling him greedy. But because the club gave in and gave him 7.5m for his old contract now the club is considered 'disrespectful' for offering 7.5m.

7.5 million per year, one of the top 10 wages in the world, is not disrespectful at all.

Nisse said...

Did Kaka say he wanted to renew? I haven't read so. In any way as I said, what's important is that they both said they wanted to stay.

There is place for a rise without him getting more than Messi. Just a little rise to show their gratification would be enough, instead - a lower wage. It's hard to argument against that. A slap in the face.

And, I think it has been clear that the catalan players get less than they deserve because they are expected to stay anyways, but that has nothing to do with this.

And I have no idea what you mean about "I guess his agent won the PR war because you believe his side even though it belies the evidence." Because the club has not denied the story of Mesalles, and that's what I'm basing my arguments on. No "evidence" other than that has been shown what I know?
