Juventus wants to include Trezeguet in Abidal deal

Italian sports paper Il Corriere dello Sport claims that Juventus is interested in Barcelona left back defender and French international Eric Abidal (29).

Signing a quality left back would be an absolute priority for the Italian club during the summer transfer window and Abidal would be on top of the target list.

Barcelona could be willing to listen to offers if the bid is high enough. The asking price for Abidal, whose contract expires in 2010 and who has a year salary of 2,5 million euro net, would be 10 million euro°. Juventus is considering to include Juventus forward David Trezeguet (31) in the deal, while Liverpool would also be strongly interested in Abidal (read more here).

Asked about the future of Trezeguet, the player's father and agent Jorge Trezeguet said in an interview with French sports paper L'Equipe that Barcelona is one of the clubs monitoring the striker (read more here): "Everybody wants David. He has a contract with Juventus until 2011 but several clubs are interested in him. A lot of clubs in England, but also teams like Lyon and Barcelona. We'll see what will happen at the end of the season."

Oh no, not again. Same stories from the last summer. Anyway, he could become good replacement for Eto'o during African Cup.

Abidal was never a player I liked initially but as the season progressed I could see the difference he makes.

His mobility allows the rest of the defense to spread laterally as he covers a larger amount of space. With Sylvinho, his covering ability is limited to a smaller space which is vertical and does not allow the defense to spread out as much or with the same confidence. And Puyol has his inconquerable tendency to run towards goal rather than towards the man-on-the-ball which causes way too many problems with the positioning of the centre-backs while also allowing the right winger an unchallenged entry into our penalty area.

I think Abidal has played poorly since he has returned from injury. But once he settles in, he is likely to make a far more valuable contribution in that position that either of Sylvinho or Puyol. Yet there must be other left-backs who are capable of the same.

Given my predispositon against Abidal, it is, for me, the most difficult position to resolve in the summer. Do we buy someone who can cover for Abidal when he turns in a poor performance or is injured, or do we sign someone who can give us an additional attacking option such as Zhirkov who for me is a versatile player and can play LM or LB.

Abidal has to function effectively for us as a LB would with a 3-man backline. His perfomance for me has been one of the major disappointments in the last 2 matches. We need someone who can cover space vertically and laterally in that position but maybe the only sticking point for me is how many games Abidal takes to get back to the same competence he shows after 10 matches.

In the end it comes down to this, if we sell Abidal we need to sign a very effecient defensive LB, while if we retain him we have the option of signing Zhirkov or someone else who contributes more to our attack.

Piss off.

I don't want to sell Abidal and I don't want Trezeguet. It's a lose-lose situation for Barça as far as I'm concerned.

Trez would provide us with the big tall "power- forward" that we are missing and with guddy gone its always good to have another striker. Bojan can slide across to the left or the right and if hleb is gone too bojan would get more mins. I heard that Henrique was playing RB and LB maybe he can be the solution to barcelona's LB dilema.

OUT - GUDDY, HLEB, JORQUERA, Caceres (loan)

IN - TREZ,

Promote - Gai, Thiago

Front line

Henry Etoo Messi

Backup

Gai Trez Bojan

Mid

Yaya Keita Xavi Iniesta Busquets Thiago

Def

Dani Puyol Marquez Milito Pique Henrique Sylvinho

GK

Valdes Asenjo Pinto

If Philip Lahm was as tall as Abidal he would be perfect but he is way too short. And he isn't like Puyol who can out jump a 6ft 5 guy with ease. Patrice Evra is someone who I admire and although he is also short, he can jump pretty high. But most of all, I would love to see Gael Clichy at FC Barcelona. He is tall enough, has improved defensively and offers a lot going forward. Plus, he has youth on his side.

yeah let's get trezeguet and sell eto'o. let's get drogba and sell henry. by the way: why not selling messi and getting van nistelroy. i'm sure we can become the second ac milan alias retirement home.

Abidal give Alves the chance to be very offensive, Abidal should stay, he is strong, fast and tall, a very good defender and good enough technically as well. We cant have two fullbacks like Alves, it makes us way too vulnerable in defence.

If he doesn't mind playing the "Larsson role", he'll be a good purchase.
