Catalan sports paper Sport claims that an agreement has been reached on the contract renewal of Barcelona polyvalent defender and midfielder Víctor Sánchez (21) (read more here).
Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain would have closed a deal on a renewal with the player's agent and Víctor Sánchez will sign his new contract on Monday.
The new contract will be for four years, starting in the summer in 2008 and expiring in 2012. The Catalan player's buyout clause would be 30 million euro°. Víctor Sánchez, whose current contract expires in 2010 and who has this season been switching between the first and the second team, will from now on only play for the first team.

Maybe he can be a descent squad player but i'm a little suprised about the desicion, if it's true.

He isn't so good, we should promote Thiago instead of him!
Thiago is better and if he gain some experience he good be very good in the next years.
BUT! pep know whats best, he knwo the players very well and sees them every day.
Sánchez is one of very few Catalan players in Athletic, maybe thats why...Plus he can play DM, MC, WHB that makes him a brilliant sub.
Guardiola has a lot of confidence on him. But I'm a bit surprised that he's ONLY going to play with the first team.
Maybe it has something to do with his growing too old for the Athletic squad ?
