Medical: Green light for Ibrahimovic and Messi

Barcelona players Zlatan Ibrahimovic (27) and Lionel Messi have received this morning the green light from Barcelona's medical staff and will be available for the Joan Gamper Trophy game against Manchester City tomorrow.

Messi suffered an overburdening of an adductor and one of the quadriceps muscles at the front of his left thigh during a training session with the Argentinian national team last Tuesday.

Ibrahimovic broke the base of the second metacarpal bone of his left hand during a friendly game with his former club Inter Milan last month and after an operation on Tuesday 28 July, he was expected to return for the Joan Gamper Trophy against Manchester City on 19 August.

No Iniesta?!?! This is disaster! When will he play?!?

Disaster? It's a friendly game, don't be such a drama queen... Better to wait until they are fully fit so they are ready for the official games.

relax people, league doesn't start until the very last day of August.

I'm really excited I'm finally going to see Ibra play. Can't wait to see how he grows into the squad.

lol @ drama queen
Why so harsh dude? He only meant he can't wait to see Iniesta play :)

It is the Gamper! And Iniesta has been out since 10 May! I am worried, and so should you be. It could become chronic for Iniesta, three months is a long time, yes he played with pain in the CL final, but it worsened the situation for him.

Just give him the time needed to come back. You can risk something for the CL final, but not for the Gamper Trophy. If he's ready for the European Super cup next week, that's fine by me.

Right you are groga. Iniesta must be 110 procent recovered before Guardiola let him out on the field. No more injuries as a result of him not being rehabilitated enough. Besides, if all other first team players are available we should have a pretty good squad to face Man City with.

The question is why would there be any risk? At the beginning of June, it was said 6-8 weeks. Now it is the 18 of august and he is still not ready? We should be worried groga. Iniesta is incredible and we need him to be fit the whole season and not feel pain, because our squad is razor-thin.

Nobody is demanding him to play if he isn't fully fit, but why isn't he fully fit after 3 months!? It could be disaster.

Grabs dont worry about injuries on the front like messi zltana henry i dont think that zlatan can be injured he so strong if messi or henry get injured, then we have pedro and jeffren on the bench:D

I think most of you people forgot that Iniesta has been suffering for a virus which led to a weight loss... Thats the reason for hex extended "injury"...

Fenderek said...

OMG ppl, chill out... it's a friendly game, we'll need him later for serious ones...

Anonymous said...

This is true, Dimmu! I am so glad that you reminded us of that, it means we should be less worried probably. Hopefully this is the reason for the extended injury. We should remain calm now.

i'd prescribe at least three xanax's & a couple of bud lights to all the anonys out there ;^)

I think this news shows who's an optimist and who's a pessimist... :)

Pessimists are freaking over Iniesta, optimists are just happy Messi and Zlatan are back and that we finally could see the new forward line Messi-Zlatan-Henry in action.

Can't Iniesta just eat some bacon-chicken and some fries?

Just buy César Azpilicueta, Vincent Kompany & one of Arda Turan, Moussa Dembélé, Juan Mata, Ibrahim Afellay & Luis Suárez and we are more than ready for this hectic season. My preference order would be Arda>Mata>Dembélé>Afellay>Suárez. Now Suárez would be the ideal player to replace Henry but we don't need just a winger, we actually need a player who can play at wing & AM positions.

César replacing VicSan, Kompany & Henrique together adding more depth compared to Caceras, the winger/attacking mid-fielder replacing Hleb, maxwell replacing Sylvinho & Ibra replacing Eto'o. We also have an improved Pedro now to add depth to the squad :)

Is it just me or any body else also feels that the above buys would make an improvement of the TREBLE winning squad!?

@above

thank god you're not a sporting director at barca

@ above
Actually all the names that I have written, except for Dembélé, have been linked with us more than once. So I just made a suggestion.
You could actually elaborate on my mistakes instead of just being rude :)
Okay Thank God, Pep doesn't have an attitude like you, or else Pep would have announced we were going to win every thing as soon as we gave the smacking to Sporting Gijon by this time last year! And we would have fallen flat

I would rather have anony as the sporting director than Txiki! I think the options are good, although I don't like Kompany, I think a RB like Cesar, plus a versatile attacking player like Dembele and another DM would be the best.

The new DM gives us the option of moving Yaya further upfield, while we desperately need some good backup up front, preferably someone who can play multiple positions, like Dembele. With Dembele, Bojan, Iniesta and Pedro as options when Messibranry are out. Muniesa and Fontas can slug it out for the 4th central defender spot.

I hope Pep will not use Messi in tomorrow's friendly..He needs rest..and let him recover completely..we need him for other upcoming important games..
