Keirrison Watch: Debut Delayed

Keirrison made Jorge Jesus' 19 player game roster for Benfica's league opener against Marítimo last weekend, but was scratched off at the last minute as only 18 players are allowed to dress.

Keirrison who was the target of some of Jesus' more energetic coaching during the past week, in regards to his positioning and movements on the field, was selected from the lot 27 players currently available to coach Jorge Jesus for this match.

Benfica tied up their season opener, and matched the performances of their direct rivals Sporting and FC Porto who also got ties in their respective games. Keirrison's competition, Weldon and Nuno Gomes, both came off the bench in this Sunday's game, and Weldon even got the tying goal.

The young Brazilian has his work cut out for him, as he will need to start adapting and prove that Barcelona made the right decision in acquiring him.

lol at anon, not even played a game yet an already his is history! how many players come from brazil and walk atraight into one of the top teams in europe. he needs to adjust to their system and gain the support of their coach. we want him to play but for them they want to win, they are not going to play him just to appease us. give him time and he will shine.

Can someone clarify this for me. Can a loaned-out player be recalled midway thru the agreement?

I ask this because Spurs are recalling their loaned-out keeper to back-up Gomez's replacement, Cudicini. If this can be done, should K9 fails to secure a 1st team place, can we recall him so at least he can back-up our forwards?

i think if the other team is not paying any money to us for the loan, then we can call him back. at least, thats the rule in FM :)

I think they can be recalled if a certain clause was set...

I can't believe the short-mindnedness of some of you guys. So what, Benfica now OWE us to play K. 100% of their games? Have a little patience.
Keirrison was bought TO be loaned form the start. Wasn't his decision, it was Pep's and he knew this even before he signed. He still chose us cause he loves the club.

I bet if he comes next year and scores twice you guys will have forgotten all about this distrust in him. I hope not. Keep an eye out for hypocrisy and avoid it :)

K will have plenty of time to play in Benfica and he wasn't brought in to be their lead striker. It's like someone crying that Bojan shouldn't have signed with us cause he doesn't play... some "Ibrahim-something" guy keeps getting the starter-position :(

Man,

you guys need to chill. Keirrison is the next Ruud Van Nistelrooy. I personally think that RVN has been one of the best 3 strikers in the world for many years. If you watch Keirrison you'll see that he plays just like RVN and he is just as lethal. He is a natural replacement for Eto'o and is the future of Brazil together with Pato.

I don't understand why Pep let him go out on loan. He could have been a perfect '9' for us, as a back up to Ibrahimovic. All I know is that Keirrison will be a huge success and I also believe that Pep will regret the decision to let Keirrison go out on loan because with such a grueling schedule, we will have injuries and even though we may have Bojan and Pedro, Keirrison could have been the man to give us many more options because we don't have a natural '9.'

I just hope Pep knows what he's doing but I think that this year he will not be as lucky with injuries in the crucial stages of the season as he was last year. Add to that the fact that we still need one midfielder and one CB, and this year will be different.

He's done. Behind half a dozen strikers in Benfica. 4 strikers selected for the match and none were Keirrison. We should just forget about him and consider it 15m thrown in the toilet.

im totally fine with him being loaned out, but loaning him out to a side with already 4 strikers ahead of him and they are not even in the UCL to play many games is probably the dumbest things you could do...

Keirrison is interesting. Huge talent, potential goal machine, loaned out by a coach on record as saying that he wasn't really interested in the purchase. Weird.

If he develops right, he could become a for-real monster, who would make his 15m purchase price seem a bargain. We'll just have to wait and see. But I think he'll get time. I just hope it's enough to develop. I know that he sure as heck wasn't going to get that time with us.

Kxevin: Sure as hack wasn't going to get it with us? I think Keirrison would have been on the bench in our first game against Sporting. But Keirrison was not on the bench for Benfica, 4 strikers ahead of him, plus Aimar and Di Maria indirect competition as they are very offensive midfielders/forwards.

This Jesus Bloke should give Keirrison more priority because he is better than definately 3 of their own useless strikers. did you see they could not even beat maritimo

So what Brazilians don't and rarely walk into a top club and do well, it doesn't mean all Brazilians will be the same. natural born Superstars will do it whener wherever and they don't need loans to adapt and prove themselves (Kaka at milan is an ex). If someone ain't gonna become a crack and crack it for a top club then you can give them all the opportunity in the world and they won't do it. Bojan looks lost at times, wasting good chances, what if Ibra is out injured we have no one.

I completely agree that he should not have been loaned to a team that was not gonna play him. For that he could have stayed at Barcelona and be the replacement for ibrahimovic. However, it's still too early to make any judgments, he could still earn some minutes and prove himself. Let's give the kid sometime and support him on the meantime.

True, Anonymous, but the added complication is that Guardiola didn't want him, which is at best an odd situation.

Guardiola's inexplicable loyalty to Krkic, coupled with not really wanting Keirrison, means that he probably wouldn't have seen any time with us. He's actually, I think, more likely to get time with Benfica than with us.
