Eto'o wants to continue at Barcelona

Asked about the rumours talking about an exchange of him and Inter Milan player Ibrahimovic (read more here), Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28) has unconfirmedly said in an interview with Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport that he's not planning to leave in the summer:

"I don't know anything about it. I only talk about concrete things, not about rumours. Besides, why would I want to change? This team has scored 150 goals this season, which is crazy. So for a striker there isn't a better place than Barcelona, where, apart from scoring goals, you always return home with the impression of having done something useful and having attended a party."

I hope he stays. He is World Class and much better than Ibra. His goal scoring record at Barca throughout his career backs up he is our and the World's best.

Amir, if you really think Eto'o is shit then I suggest you better not post on a blog for Barça fans ever again. You don't deserve to support this great club.

Support your players, Amir, and certainly those who have done that much for the club as Eto'o! So far Ibrahimovic hasn't done anything for us except begging us to sign him.

I think it's about time to sell him!! He's done so much and every Barca fan is thankful for him.

Barca needs new blood at the CF position names like Llorente, Villa, Forlan, Dzeko seem to fit well enough for me, not Ibrahimovic coz his ego will kill team spirit.

JR last time i remembered anyone is allowed to say what he/she wants and don't tell anyone they don't deserve to be a barca fan cause they don't agree with you. you don't own barca so i prefer it if you think before you speak....type.... whatever.

as for the topic everyone knows who i'm going for so no need to comment on it.

He's good but there are three very good reasons to sell him.

1. He only have 1 year left on his contract, if he doesn't renew it's time to cash in.

2. There are better strikers out there, for example Villa.

3. We need another type of striker, a classical number 9. Dzeko, Llorente, Adebayor or Ibra are only some of the options avaliable. The need for that type of player is very evident in the CL.

I am sure Eto would walk out on Barca if he gets to read some of the name syou have mentioned in these posts. Enuff said.

the only striker i would sell etoo for is fernando torres, but he surely wont come, so keep etoo and renew his contract!

djoef said...

We don't cash in on players, Simon, that's not the club's policy. Laporta said: "we're not a selling club, we don't sell our key players." And with only one year left, there won't be much cashing anymore anyhow.

And your number 2 and 3 seem to contradict each other, or you want to buy ànd Villa ànd Ibra? And they're as old as Eto'o, so when will you cash in on them then? None of the strikers you mention there have proven a lot in the CL, so it's all about guessing.

sashi said...

oh please! dont start about Adebayor! Arsenal fans are begging clubs to buy Adebayor for free!!! tats the extent to which he has been this season. As for Villa, i dono whom to pick betn Eto n Villa as they both are almost at the same age, almost equally gifted. may be we can try for someone like Dzeko but he scored lots of goals in the German league which isn't as gud as La liga.

so i guess i'll be happy wit Eto but i really hate him when he scores 1 goal when he had 6 direct chances to score! he needs to convert a lot more. he could've reached 50 this season had he converted most oppurtunities.

about Ibra, i am still puzzled whether he would fit into our system. but he's way too costly and i guess i'll be happy to see Eto after he is revitalized over the summer!

That statement from Laporta is very important but you can't forget that football is a business and Barca is a part of it. I have no doubt that the board will sell him if he doesn't renew, he is too good be released as a bosman since we have to buy an expensive replacement. With clubs like Manchester City out there I'm confident we can get at least 20M for him.

What I meant was that if we are to replace him with an similiar player then Villa is a good option, I lean towards getting a big and powerful striker.

It's true that Dzeko, Llorente, Adebayor or Ibra haven't been proven in the CL yet but with the exception of Ibra they are relatively young and would grow into the team over years to come. And Eto'o haven't impressed in the CL and certainly not this season.

I think etoo is finished and we need to sell him, and i really would like villa cause i know he will be good. But i want a striker so we can mix our game up someone who can score from crosses and so on. I think Villa would be another etoo but when we play against teams like chelsea manchester and stuff we need a tall striker so we can mix our game.

And I will say it once again Zlatan would be so good for our striker position. with the support he gets in barca he will score much more then he does in inter.

strikers like Dzeko, Llorente, Adebayor dont deserv to play in barca they are not good enough. Everybody keeps talking about we need a young striker but dont u get it we dont need one ? we already have bojan we need someone like Zlatan who can play 2-3 years then goo on.

I think that we nedd guddy and hleb...this season was(is) secessfull because we have huge squad.....only because of that....how many times did pep put players like Messi on bench....the only player this season who did not have replacement was Dani Alves and we really need cover for him(he is not a machine)...Henrique will be able to do this in my opinion....we should start using caceres on left position and see if he can make it...or loan him out....an that is all....we do not need a lot of signings in summer....maybe another stricker(but strong one who can use his head - Dzeko)we have the best team in the world....

we can't just simply sell Eto'o and go buy a taller striker to cope with Chelsea two games in the season if happened. Eto'o and Villa both are the best strikers for our system with their speed and aggression. we need players who can run behind defenders to receive passes from the creative midfielders and full-backs, and at set-pieces the whole team is in the area so even if we don't have a tall striker we still got some tall players who can score with their head, let alone when players like keita pour into the area scoring with head. one of our best header goals this season came off Bojan's head. so it makes no sense to me to sell a fast striker who copes well with our system in 50 games per season, and get a slower and taller striker who will benefit us against teams like Chelsea, which this season was the only team who kept us calm, albeit the great run from eto'o from the middle of the field. what concerns more is Eto'o's ability to finish all those clear cut chances he is wasting nowadays, his 29 goals speaks for his ability, but his 29% of converting chances us very low. and please, don't talk like we are stranded for cash, we can buy players with around 60 millions every year, so money is no biggie.

hey guys i'm am thankful for etoo for all he have done but it's time to go ! etoo is a great player but he gets me nervous in the last couple of weeks he misses too much!!!

I agree with sashi.

It's stupid to buy some overrated players while we have Pichichi winner in the squad. Eto'o has form drop right now but I hope that he will be good enough for CL finals.

Guys, look at what he has done this year. After all, it will be unfair to sell him, especially if Barca win treble. In that case, it'll be more realistic to sell Henry (winning CL and his dream came true)

I don't want to talk much about Adebayor, he's lazy. His average distance per game is 2000m, while Eto'o's 10000m.

My conclusion is that the best prospect for the future would be Benzema (Eto'o's successor).

Zlatan Ibrahimovic sucks, Eto'o rocks. Eto'o scored the amount of goals that Zlatan does when he was with Mallorca! And doesn't Eto'o have the same amount of assists that Ibra does this season? Don't say Ibra can do amazing passes and is more of a team player because that's BS. I hate the idea of Eto'o scoring goals and celebrating with another team!

Hold on a minute. So you say that everyone is allowed to say what he/she wants, and then in the very same sentence you tell me that I'm not allowed to give my opinion? "think before you speak" as you put it, is in place here I think.

And I fully stand behind what I said btw. People who say Eto'o is shit, don't deserve to be a Barça fans. Eto'o is our 4th highest goalscorer of all time and is only 2 goals behind Rivaldo, on top of helping us win lots of titles. He deserves respect, and no insults.

Marc4barca said...

and you think because others hate eto that they don't deserve to be barca fans? there is always a player someone wants out the team, so i'm guessing everyone don't deserve to be barca fans but you? or are u implying that eto is bigger than barca? no one is bigger than barca and no one is irreplaceable, eto misses alot, he has past his time and it's time for him to go, everyone may not agree and most might but the point is that both sides who want him gone and want him stay are all keeping barca in mind, thinking of barca and live for barca this is the only reason i am angry with your comment cause u are telling other barca fans whether there are a barca fan or not. as far i'm concern your opinion was on eto staying and i didn't even tell you anything about it in the last comment, surely not stuff like your not a barca fan. i just told u, u don't own barca and u can't tell anyone if they are a barca fan or not and when i said free to say what they want i meant commenting on whether the topic is about not blasting other people cause they hate the player u like, but anyways i am overreacting cause people know they are barca fans whether ignorant people like u tell them they are not. reply however u want but i'm through talking with u.

JR said...

There's a big difference between saying he's past his best or that he is shit. If you insult one of the greatest strikers that has ever played at the club and call him "shit" then I have every right to blast people for that. If he has the right to call Eto'o shit, then I have the right to call him shit.

Eto'o is not bigger than Barça, and I can understand people saying it might be time for him to move on (while I don't agree though) but I can't understand people saying he is shit. That is just a serious lack of respect, and it goes against everything the club stands for.

"i am angry with your comment cause u are telling other barca fans whether there are a barca fan or not."

I don't tell other people whether they are Barça fans or not, I told him I thought he was not worthy of being a Barça fan. And it's my right to have that opinion. I don't decide who's a fan and who isn't, but I sure as hell won't hold back my opinion of them when I seen a supposed fan showing such disrespect to such a great player and to the club.

Oh and if in some way you are trying to say that you hate Eto'o and think he's shit as well, then what I said about Amir counts for you just as well.

zaki said...

we should keep him, way better then ibra

Xaviniesta said...

my opi is simple if eto'o wants to stay then let him stay. i'm sure it can be worked out and i dont expect pep to tolerate this inconvenient dip in form tho we got to understand it happens even to the best players. i dont see eto'o slowing down for at least another season nways. i'm not concerned abt the strike force unless someone opts to leave then we replace. Bojan should be played more nxt ssn we gotta take our chances with him, kid is good. what we need urgently is a proper LW and LB since abidal is leaving, the LW is whether Henry stays or not, that should be our focus.

and those guys arguing lol chill. one person calling eto'o shit doesnt make him that. matter of opinion and nways maybe amir will eat his words after Rome lol.

No way is Eto better than Ibra! If Ibra played at Barca this year he would have had 50 goals, this is because he shoooots the dam ball. Eto as the season has gone on seems to be almost hesitant to shoot. Eto has NO question degraded as the season has gone on. I am not saying I want Ibra, a Villa VPersie or even Aguero would be fine. Ibra is good but NOT 60m good.

rahul said...

ibra has more skill than etoo bt doesnt have teh desire n heart to turn thme into results. a player who plays for inter one of teh best clubs in teh world begs to real or barca to sign him how pathetic. i think either etoo or henry needs to go n llorente shud be signed as i have been saying forever tht guy can become a class. n plus he is proven in la liga. so no risks. obviously less risk than signing dzeko frm wolfsburg. for eg: take shevschenko wt a player at milan n at chelsea nt at all tht gud. i hope we dont miss out on llorente.

Eto'o is the best, Ibra is an amazing player but look he so far only scored 22 goals in Seria A and Eto'o has 33 in all competitions. If Barca sells Eto'o and gets ibra later on we will complain again and say we should of kept eto.... i say if when the day comes when eto only scores maybe 15 goals in a season then we should sell him. Right now its hard to replace anyone and why ruin a good thing and its not like Barca did bad this year. Barca has amazing players and we should be happy that each one of them plays for this amazing club
