Liga games could be played in the afternoon

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez will propose the other Liga clubs that every match day one game would be played at 3 pm in the afternoon Spanish time.

This would be a way to open up the Asian market for the Spanish league by reaching fans in Asia in prime-time. Barcelona would be in favour of the proposal.

Apart from increase in market for the La Liga in Asia... At least I wouldn't need to stay all night to watch the most beautiful game. So excited :)

No! that means i have to get up at 6 AM to watch barcelona!

I will be half alseep with my dad on the couch watching barca!

Don Luis only one game per match day. That means you will miss like every 10th game with Barcelona. Great idea.

its about time. This is the single biggest reason top four in EPL are were they are now. Had they to compete with la liga, theres no way they would have got so good. If this report is true, it says alot for Perez and his initiative, whereas barca is spending its time with the US market.

Guys just imagine if the dream team had been showing on asian televisions, they would have easily won over most of uniteds current fan base, so by the time ferguson's success came around... We wouldn't be hearing Man U biggest club in the world.

I wonder why it has taken the clubs this long to realise this...

Can anyone tell me what is the reason for late night games(culture?), and do you think many would be upset with afternoon games?

noooooooo..... plzz noooooo..... in india they show EPL shit in the evening time and if borht la liga and EPL coincide those morons always prefer EPL, atleast when it was in the midnight i could watch the games on television but now theres now way...

Ok. I am getting a TV and a SKYbox in my room. My bro and my bets mate supprt ManU and Arsenal respectively and they tend to watch EPL more than Liga. So, the TV in the Living room goes to them now. SInce SKY UK would always give EPL prefrence if they are showing both Leagues at the same time.

@anon, probably culture. dont they work till like 9 pm there? anyway, this would be good for the asian market for sure and for smaller clubs in spain to get the exposure as well not just the top 4. the better plan would be to collectively buy tv rights like they do in the epl so that 1, revenues are spread more evenly and we dont see lesser but watchable clubs like valencia for ex go down the drain and 2, broadcasting rights can be purchased cheaper cos right now asian cable co's have to pay through the nose just to get la liga satellite feeds.

Woo hoo!!... It's about time. Thank you to whoever comes to this decision. Can it be "insiderknowledge"? No.. just kidding. I'm sure they've been looking into this for a long time.

Sorry but yes I'm from a SE Asian country that gets to see La liga from 2am and even delayed matches that starts at 5,6,7am so I very much welcome this move. But the truth is I'm sure they are more like targeting Chinese viewers with this as Beijing has the same time zone as ours and we all know what that means.

Next step, find a deal with ESPN/StarSports so we can be bombarded with everything La liga from now on.

Haha he just wants those crazy Japanese to watch his beloved Cristiano.. But it might also be good for us europeans because we dont have to wait so much during the game. Just wake up and start looking at once. But it stinks for the South Americans..

Criff said...

Haha this will never go through, whoever has been in Sevilla in august knows how hot there are.
No way you could play a football game at that time over there.

Unknown said...

Yes Criff but they're not talking about every game. Maybe a few chosen ones per matchday and that means maybe one or two early kick-off per month at most per team. But then again most World Cup matches are played during hot summer days so I guess players and clubs have to take it as part of their responsibilty to enhance Spanish football image.

Good.Next time i come back home for holidays i won't miss barca's game.Another reason why Barca isn't favoured in Asia. But that is going to change soon.

My bad. I didn't read thoroughly the article where it says it was Perez's idea and it's only one match per matchday. While I like the idea, I have some reservation about the idea with Perez in the driving seat.

I wouldn't want RM to monopolise the bulk of early kickoff matches the way MU did with the EPL even though the other EPL top 3 get alot more airtime than the rest. What I'm saying is with MU it's the ESPN network that preferred MU by delaying other teams matches (same kickoff times). With RM, with only one match per week, the risk is they could "engineer" a TV schedule where a large percentage their away matches gets the early kickoff thus preventing other top teams equal exposure.

i'm w/you don luis...i take it you're from somewhere on the westcoast of the u.s.?

no way i can stumble home @ 2-3 in the morning & watch barcelona play @ 6am. believe me i've tried. that's why i don't catch very many good epl games.

i don't blame barca's board for wanting to try and expand into the asian tigers(whether or not they can keep up that growth is another issue) so i guess i'm just gonna have to buckle down and get a dvr recorder. oh well. :O(
