Guardiola gives green light for Forlan

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona could sign Atlético Madrid forward and Uruguay international Diego Forlán (30) this summer.

Although Valencia forward Villa stays the main target, Barcelona wouldn't want the planning of next season to be postponed too much because of the uncertain situation at Valencia and has started moving for Forlán by contacting his agent (read more here).

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would have given his permission to go on with the negotiations. Guardiola and Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain wouldn't be worried by the player's age since reports suggest that the player is behaving as an exemplary professional. The buyout fee of Forlán is 36 million euro° and Atlético Madrid wouldn't be willing to lower that.

This must be a joke. What a complete waste of money for $36 million euro. 10-15 maybe but anything more than that is completely crazy. I would rather buy Drogba over Forlan anyway.

This board should be put in front of a wall and shot. They have made Barca the laughing stock in the transfer market for the past 4 weeks changing thier minds faster than my daughter and I thought that was impossible! "He who hesitates is lost"

This must be something just too put pressure on Villa. No way Forlan is an option. Eto'o is much better and now we are willing to sell Eto'o for 30m and buy Forlan for 36m? Forlan is older aswell.

Seems like a entirely confusing matter for FCB's board, this centre forward issue. Last year, they did their best to get rid of Eto'o because, apparently, he wasnt's fitting Pep's vision of tall and powerful forward needed in our 4-3-3 system. Then we conquered Spain and Europe with him as our striking option and won't offer him a decent renewal. Logical step would be to sell him and have a >1m90cm buff striker and a second option similar to Eto'o for a choice on centre forward position. Then we acquire Keirrison (again, Inzaghi-type striker with no physical superiority) and give our best to splash 50M € (almost complete transfer budget) on David Villa, with all the respect for one of the world's best striker. One of our last season's best players out and two strikers with wrong profile in. ???

Logical step would be A) selling Eto'o only in case we could obtain another world class striker but the choice for our needs is narrow. I would only point out Torres and Ibrahimovic as suitable options. B) Eto'o's renewal and signing a substitute bus-breaking striker (Llorente?, Hoarau?, Dzeko?, Amauri?...).

This way, we will have 3 striker options (Villa, Bojan, Keirrison) with, basically, very little difference between them, reducing our formation flexibility and giving opponents a lot easier time planning the counter game that way.

Anyone who thinks Barca is going to pay like 36 millions for forlan has no clue about football. or just new guys.

Maximum they will pay is 20 millions.

And take it easy these are just rumors.

Forlan is not Barca material!
What the f*** is going on in our team?
I think Laporta is going crazy from the success and he's going to pay for that...

I can't agree more with eye, i was thinking exactly the same !!!

I like Forlan more than Eto'o. he is better on the ball and has a good shot from out of the box. 30 or not he looked very sharp last season.

Anon, you guys confuse me/us a lot. Get a username so that way, we can identify your comments. Is this the same person as the one earlier today, same as the one last week? We no groga, he likes eto, we know marc4barca, he loves Ibra, we know ej, he love Aguero,
the name anon is very confusing especially when we have about 3 anons contributing to a thread/topic that attracts over 40posts. Please get an identity.

Thanks

NouBarca, Probably those who make less-positive comments about Eto'o prefer not to say their names because NouBarca will follow the trace to their home addresses one by one. Thats not secure. They know you when it come to eto'o issues ;)

worse news after it was almost claimed that we've signed villa.Pep doesn't like Forlan this news is false. He prefered Ibra and Villa. Laporta and co aren't doing enough. After all we lost out on Fillipe just because we didn't want to add 3mil pounds.Next week the players will be getting ready for a preseason and we haven't made a signing not even the K9 signing since after all it is always, "catalan news paper claims" Bullshit, this are only rumours there is simply no transfer activity.Pep forgivr my language.

i highly doubt we'll get him...remember guys..these are all just rumors.
BUT if this actually comes to fruition..i'd much rather see keirrison as our striker than this guy. european experience or not.

Again you dont get it, if Eto'o leaves, Barca absolutely must sign a proven goal scorer! If we dont do that then we can hand the title to RM without any fight. Is that what you want!? Paying 36 million for Forlan and winning the league is a "bit" better option than playing Bojan up front and grabbing 2nd or 3rd spot. But of course it would be better to keep Eto'o or buy Villa in full cash deal and have Keirrison as a back up for him. Laporta declared that he wouldnt have signed any players this summer, it explains a lot what comes to the lack of signings. We cant even sign a back up guy for Abidal...

Problem with signing players over 30 is they can deteriorate rapidly physically and mentally and at that age, rarely recover it. Pas form is also not a good indicator because when the time comes it comes. This is more important for players relying on their physical attributes.

I speak from experience and having witnessed it on my frds who were professional fighters.

no dolce...i don't think you "get it" because i wasn't saying thats what our first priority should be. i'm saying that this is just a rumor and i believe we will wrap up the villa situation soon.
all I'M saying is i'd rather save money and use keirrison RATHER than buying this guy.
and again you are ALWAYS jumping to conclusions and assumptions. you don't know how successful or unsuccessful anyone will be before the season even starts. tryin being optimistic once in a while. it helps.

Goal.com can exclusively reveal that Barcelona have formally agreed a deal with Valencia for David Villa. A bid in the region of €40 million has been accepted, according to our sources, and the deal could accelerate the departure of Samuel Eto'o, tipped to join Manchester City.

Villa could be joined at Camp Nou by Andre Santos; the Corinthians defender is reported to be Barca's number one defensive target.
