[2008] Did we get the right price for Deco?

this post was published exactly one year ago:

Was 10 million euro° enough for former Barcelona midfielder Deco?

Asked about the transfer fee Chelsea paid for him, Deco said in an interview with Catalan radio station Catalunya Ràdio that the fee is the consequence of the statements made by the technical department and the board of the club:

"In a way, what has happened is the result of how they have dealt with the situation. If you say that you're not counting on a player, you cannot ask too much for him afterwards. On the other hand, if that wouldn't have been the case, Chelsea wouldn't have signed me."

Barcelona economic vice president Ferran Soriano said at a press conference that Barcelona has sold Deco for a good price: "The price that Chelsea has paid is the right price if you look at the value of the player, the fact that he's 31 years old and that we didn't receive other offers. If a player who we bought at the top of his game for 18 million euro, is sold after four years for 10 million euro, I think that's a success."

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain agreed with that view: "Deco is 31 years old. He played at an incredible level the first two years but he wasn't that good during the last two. I sincerely think that 10 million euro is the right market price. Also because we only had an offer from Chelsea on the table.

If we would have received other offers, we would have been able to negotiate, although we knew that the player really wanted to go to Chelsea because of his good relationship with their new manager Scolari. We've reached the best deal possible, we're very satisfied with the great sporting benefits in the past and the good economic benefits now."

10 million for a 31 year old who is more likely to give the ball up to the other team than do anything else with it... good price.

13-15 WAS THE CORRECT PRICE..
THIS IS NOT IMPORTAND.. EVEN WITH THE PLAYERS WE HAVE NOW WE SHOULD NOT BE WORY IF WE SIGN ANY NEW ONES.. BUT RONNY MUST GO!!!
KEMPE CYPRUS..

Great price. He's 31 and uncertain as the day is long. Essentially we rented him for 8 million for three of his best years. Perfect.

Four years even. But I think you forgot to count his salary in that price...

What does it really matter now anyway? the deal is done. it's not like an extra 3-5mil would have meant life or death for Barcelona. As long as Barcelona don't take the same approach with Eto'o I'm fine with it. If Adebayor and Villa can have price tags of ~40mil then Eto'o's should be no less considering he is better than both of them. The numbers don't lie and Eto'o's been one of the most dominantly consistent forces year in and year out in La Liga.

Djoef, I'm not counting last year, as Deco was pretty bad. And don't forget that he's 31 years old. He isn't getting any better.

We got robbed, face the fact!

The problem is that his fee was decided before the Euros. Bad decision from the board.

Not that I'm suprised.

Barca should sign HERNANES as fast as they can...he is a young-incridable mid fielder...he has a great technique with long shot ability (something that barca need a most!)...JUST WATCH THIS : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMNOAWfRasQ......"PLEASE SIGN HERNANES"

I'm supprised for only 10mil actually. Even though Deco's 31. He is still quite fit. He still creates chances and score. He's still a dangerous man.

I would say, 15 mil.

year ago i wasn't satisfied with that price. I thoug that we should get around 15.
But after this year experience i think that the price was at least fair:)
Of course noone could predict that deco will get injured but he did and we had an amazing year.

So knowing what we know right now the price and the idea to sell deco was proper.

Great job Laporta & co:)

The price was pretty satisfactory I think, after all he was 30 years old. On another note, I think he's been treated pretty unfairly at Chelsea.
