Guardiola decides that Hleb will stay

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona attacker and Belarusian international Alexander Hleb (28) won't leave the club this summer (read more here).

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has reportedly decided that Hleb will stay and will be given a second chance. Because of his excellent technique, Guardiola would believe that Hleb in the end will be able to adapt to Barcelona's way of playing.

The player's agent Uli Ferber is quoted by the paper as confirming the news: "The club knows about the offers we have received but Begiristain told me that Alexander has a place in next season's squad because of the decision of the coach."

considering a possible second "henry-effect" and the undenieable proven fact of hlebs high speed and great technique, i think this is a wise decision of the coach.

If he can get up there, he'll be the best signing possible this summer.

He can help out both in midfield and in attack.

I like the sound of a midfield "Toure - Xavi - Hleb" A LOT. Now we only have Xavi and Iniesta behind the front three, because Keita, Gudjohnsen and Busquets are other type of players. If Hleb could play there, we'd have a lot more options.

i rate hleb very high as a footballer but i think he doesnt fit our wings in the system we are playing, the only position i can see him playing is in the midfield like guddy(who definelty has to leave this season)

I'm not so sure about this idea...
contraty to your opinion imho we should try to exchange him for riberry:)
Of course i will not be easy but imho first season of henry in barca was much better (it was still not very good but much better) than the one of hleb...

Additionally right now his price is more or less similar to the one of last year...
And he has good opinion in britain or in germany.

Last year i thought that it's a not bad candidate for a replacement to our mid. But i'm not sure about it right now.
Of course if the guardiola plans succed than we will have a great guy at the club but if not than after two poor years his price will fall dramatically...

i hope that pep knows what he's doing...

The whole Hleb situation is not easy. I never really thought he was that good, even when he played at his best at Arsenal. I also thought he would develop in Barca. But just because he has the pace and technique doesn't mean he can play on the wings (obviously after this past season). Its OK if he stays, because we really need backup for Iniesta and Xavi (and it doesn't seem we are looking for anybody). But if we just admit he was a flopp and sell him, I will not object either.

I think he's dead wood & should be removed.

Can someone please tell me why Hleb isn't a EU player? He has been playing in Europe his whole life and I thought that Belarus was in Europe...

Belarus is not part of the European Union and that's what initially counts. Although I personally think he still has an EU spot because of a treaty between EU and Belarus.

Ya but doesn't he have a German or British passport?

Very bad decision, now also other players realize that they dont have to do anything in order to stay at the club no matter how badly they play. This is not a right way to fight vs complacency and Hleb should be made a warning example. Barca should cash in on him, then we could spend more money on new players. Barca should focus on quality instead of quantity. Dont even mention Henry and Hleb in the same sentence, because Hleb has never been a major star. Henry is very useful even if he uses only half of his huge potential. Hlebs impact has been close to zero and he wont play any better next season

I tell you one thing: Hleb will not get any better. He will not adapt and he will not fit into this team. I say, like most people, sell him because it was a mistake to have bought a player who is not up to the standard in first place.
