Guardiola has asked for four transfers

Asked about the current transfer window, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said in an interview with Spanish television stattion TVE that Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has asked for four transfers:

"We're not going to take part in a crazy race, we're not going to buy players just to buy players, we just need some little changes. But of course we'll do the transfers Guardiola has asked for. He has asked to sign a left back defender, a central defender, a midfielder and a centre forward."

Note:
one source claims he said "two midfielders", but since the other sources say "one", guess it's probably one...

so wat are we waiting for???

No winger??? I mean, honestly, that would be my first target. Unless they really believe in Pedro or Gai. Or in the resurrection of Hleb.

But last year we definitely had a shortage on the wings. We had basically three players who can play there: Henry, Messi and Iniesta, all three "false" wingers. Three players for two positions, that's not good. If we're a little more unlucky with injuries next season...

well our wingers aren't really like other traditional wingers.
we pretty much play with 3 strikers up front.
thus..i truly believe Guardiola will use bojan as a winger to sub for Henry once in a while.
and i for one think thats a GREAT idea.

I'm so frustrated with this Eto'o situation. How come every1 complains that he is in the last year of his contract and no 1 makes a big deal about PeP not renewing his contract?

If they don't need a winger, what's the fuss about Ribery about then? You can't see him play in a 4-3-3 midfield... Well, you can, but not reeeaaally.

And Robinho? And Mata (offer kind of confirmed)? Doesn't make sense.

we have gai/pedro/henry/bojan/hleb/iniesta/eto that can play in LW so we dont need one .its better to get a midfielder to cover yaya and keita when they leave and play iniesta on the wings when needed

so laporta should stop talking too much and start signing cuz it seems they are professionals in wasting time! even Everton signed a player but barca still couldn't sign anyone and they are just talking...!

4 transfer signings!!! we can only come up with 1 signing so far and struggling with the next...

Goddammit! Fuck this 4 signing thing...we just won all the trophies possible, but there are still people who have penis envy towards Madrid! That's fucking puzzling and frustrating to hear as a cule!

I got one recommendation for those people: quit jerking off to football manager every day!

Carrer de Corsega said...

And by the four signing I'm referring to what Madrid has done so far and not what Pep is asking for...That would be blasphemy!

Don't let the treble or the talk about best team ever fool you. There's plenty of room for improvement.

1) We don't have a plan B when it comes to attacking. Chelsea has shown the blueprint for how to play against Barcelona. And if our first team can't break the "bus", we don't have any subs who can really provide a spark.

2) Our left back situation is iffy to say the least.

3) Several of the key members that that same treble winning squad will be out for the African Cup of Nations.

4) Several of our star players have had injuries that kept them out for at least 2 months in the last couple of years.

5) We are competing in 6 competitions this year and we nearly ran out of players when we were just competing for 3.

6) Lord knows what's going on with Eto'o, so we need either a replacement or a suitable backup.

7) And most importantly, Guardiola himself has called for our squad to be expanded.

So while I may not agree with all the positions we are chasing after (I would prefer a left winger to a central defender), we definitely need to make some signings.

i agree carrer there are alot of fans that want us to splash 40 and 60 mill for a player, thats caught up in madrid fever. we can sign great players with 20-30mil too,we signed ronaldinho and eto for less than 30 we can find and create our world class players alone we dont need to buy them for huge amounts of cash

skanjos- we signed eto and ronaldinho for less than 30M. but we signed them 5 and 6 years ago. transfer market 6 years ago was different. in these days even chygrynsky cost 20M, Forlan (30 years)30M, Mascherano 04M. in 1those barca can onlay find good defender for less than 30M.

I agree el fuego. If you look at some of the names we've been associated with:

Villa - Arguably the most clinical striker in the game today.

Mascherano - The best (or second best) D.M. in the world.

Cesc - The heart of Arsenal's midfield and their captain to boot.

Does anyone think we'll get any of them for less than 40 million? Especially when clubs are looking at Madrid and thinking, "well if they paid 80 million for Ronaldo then my star player must be worth at least...."

Now I'm not saying we HAVE to get any of those players (except maybe Villa). Maybe we're better off focusing on cheaper players who still have good quality. But the only players we've enquired about who fit that profile are Zhirkov (who's gone to Chelsea),Filipe and Kerrison.

el fuego 8 years ago the transfer market was worse, remember the zidane transfer the figo transfer, its the same now,did we then buy a player for 40+ NO,?if you see madrid makes the transfer market worse ,other teams dont spend more than 50mil for a player?now there is a crisis and most teams dont give alot of money, heck chelsea and city has backed down,i dont know what fraud real madrid has done with their depth to give so much money but dont think that because madrid has given such an amount other teams should follow.

djoef said...

Eight years ago was worse because the Italian teams also had money back then.

But since then the big prices have gone down, with two exceptions: Abramovic and Florentino.

But for the other transfers, the players just beyond the top, the prices have gone up, like with everything in life. Our status has also gone up, so clubs ask more.

We dont have a central attacker with great aerial ability to ask for traditional wingers. The way I look at it, Iniesta can play on the wings allowing another midfielder to fill that role. As a priority, I think Barca should quickly sell Etoo, bring in Villa, get Fabregas, Mascherano, Mata, a left back and a central defender. That will creat alot of dept in the defense and Midfield. Upfront, we should remember that Henry can play as a central attacker and Iniesta can play either on the right or left wings in case of injuries. By and large Pep's prescription seem about right for me. But the president should speak through actions and not all these press conferences. Eternally Barca!
