Henrique will return from Bayer Leverkusen

Asked about the future of Bayer Leverkusen central defender and Barcelona loan out Henrique (22) (read more here), Bayer Leverkusen sports director Rudi Völler has said in an interview with German tabloid Bild that the Brazilian defender will return to Barcelona at the end of this season:

"There will be some changes in our team. Henrique will for example return to Barcelona because Márquez suffered a serious injury and we signed Hyypiä to replace him."

I thought Marquez was injured for only three months. I think Henrique is a long term defender more than anything, I think we are encouraged by the way Pique has played this season and want to bring more young defenders, because if Henrique played well alongside Pique then we will have a great and tall central defenders, while Caceres gets more experience and be a good back-up.

It will be interesting to see how good he is. Hoping for the best.

Not so sure, but I think they signed Hyypiä Before Márquez injury.

I watched Henrique in a game at the cup. But it was a poor game in general against a very humble opponent. He gave me an impact that's somehow between Pique and Caceres. But one game tells nothing.

Barcelona had a good chance to monitor his progress for the season, so if they decided to get him back, its definitely for good reasons.

gr8 news... atleast now we can see first hand whether Henrique is better than Caceres and who will become Pique's defensive partner...

I would say that Henrique is better than Caceres because he is more complete as a central defender. Henrique played much more this season than Caceres, too. Henrique is taller and stronger and faster and more of a modern day complete central defender much in the same fashion as Ferdinand or Pique. Caceres is shorter, he is physically weaker and not nearly as good in the air (although he may be a better tackler). Although, Caceres deserves a chance. This lad can be a great CB especially because we haven't given him a chance to prove himself. If he can't play, he can't develop his potential so we can't say that he is not good enough for Barca. There must be a reason we paid 15 mil euros for him.
As a side note, I think Pique will be better than Ferdinand. He is a completely different player compared to the start of the season. He'll be a leader in a couple of years.

Caceres will be turned into a LB I hope. The Champion's League game in which he played LB, he was solid. That way he can take over Abidal in a year or two.

Hyypia was only signed one week after Marquez got injured, Ramzi, but it anyhow doesn't seem logic as Marquez will be out for just 2 months, so he'll be back when the league starts.

I think the loan just ended (one year) and that's it. You rarely see loan deals being extended.

the quetion is, with gaby and marquez suffering these injuries at there age, would they be barcelona players next season or will they be shipped out for younger talent in the form of henrique and probably give caceres more play time.

I think we will keep one of the Millito or Marquez. I can't see us keeping both if Henrique comes back from loan and Carceres stays. Our defence has had allot of injuries this season but we have been lucky Dani Alvez hasn't been injured. We certainly need cover for the wing backs with Puyol not getting any younger and losing pace with age. The left side of the part is a complete priority and hopefully Eto'o will stay too. Ribery and Zhrikov would be the perfect additions.

We got henrique back but leverkusen played its cards right and signed hyypiä. They needed a solid, experienced leader for their team.despite his age (35 or 36) he's still great...and his headers are phenomenal (remember cl quarter final last year liverpool vs arsenal)
